CURRENT

EVENTS
A Humanities Project
Ms. Standring
The Assignment
◦ There is a LOT going on in our world right now. As Global Issues students you need to
be aware of what is happening. Therefore, the main purpose of this project is for you
to find a current event in which to educate the class.
◦ Your current event cannot be local. It must be either provincial (concerning the
whole province), national (concerning the whole country) or global (concerning the
whole world)
◦ All topics will need to be approved by me before you start.
◦ Once you have found your current event you will need to complete the following:
◦ A PowerPoint (Canva) presentation that includes both FACTS and PHOTOS (must be
at least 8-10 slides and don’t forget to cite, MLA format, your sources!!)
◦ In your presentation you need to have at least 2 links to 2 different articles (from 2
different sources) that are about your current event.
◦ You will end your presentation with an essential question for the class. You will
need to give them time to answer the question and then pick a few people to share
their answers.
The Content: Slides and Photos
◦ Slide 1: A creative title page with your names, date, subject and of course
title
◦ Slide 2: Your essential question slide that the class must be able to
answer at the end of your presentation.
◦ Slides 3-7: Content slides that teach the class about the event. This is
where you can include key points from the two articles you found and your
5 photos with captions. When putting together the slides think about the
following:
◦ Who is the story about?
◦ What is happening?
◦ When and where is this happening?
◦ Why is this happening?
◦ How does this event affect the world?
◦ What are some global issues connected with this event?
◦ Slide 8: What is the very last thing you want us to remember?
Presentation Day
◦ Here is what to expect when it is your day to present:
◦ You will stand in front of the class and go through your entire presentation.
◦ You will need to assume that the class knows nothing about your topic so
you must be very clear with your information. (Show your articles and
highlight key points in them.)
◦ You will need to be entertaining. Don’t put the class to sleep!
◦ You will need to be prepared for a Q&A session once your presentation is
completed.
◦ You will need to give your peers time to answer the essential question
and to share their answers with the group.
◦ Because there are a lot of tasks for you to complete your presentation
needs to be between 3-5 minutes. Time yourself and plan accordingly!
