 CONCLUSION
INTRODUCTION

 Wireless HART is a Wireless Mesh

Network Communications Protocol.

 designed to meet the needs for

process automation applications.
INTRODUCTION

 Wireless HART is a key part of the

HART Field Communications Protocol
Revision 7

 Existing HART applications (e.g., control

systems, PLC's, maintenance tools, and
asset management applications)
NETWORK ARCHITICTURE

 Wireless HART Field Devices (WFD):

 connected to the process or to plant

equipment
NETWORK ARCHITICTURE
 Wireless HART Gateways:

 enable communication between Host

Applications and WFD
 support one or more Access Points

 A Gateway and its Access Points must

included in every Wireless HART

network
NETWORK ARCHITICTURE
 A Wireless HART Network Manager:

 responsible for configuration of the

network
 scheduling communication between

Wireless HART devices (e.g., configuring

super frames)
 management of the routing tables

 monitoring and reporting the health of the

Wireless HART Network

NETWORK ARCHITICTURE
LAYERS
SPECIFICATIONS
 Physical Layer:

 Maximum data rate (250 kbps).

 Operating Frequency (2.4 - 2.48 GHz).

 O-QPSK modulation and Direct

Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS).

 transmit Power is 10dBm.
LAYERS
SPECIFICATIONS
 Data-Link Layer:
 Wireless HART DLPDU (Data Link
Protocol Data Unit) specifies a byte
which identifies Wireless HART packet
types.
 TDMA using timeslots organized into

super frames as 100 timeslots per

second depending on the bandwidth.
 Link between devices specified by super

frames, timeslots and channel offset.

LAYERS
SPECIFICATIONS
 Network Layer:

 Devices support routing and broudcast.

 Request bandwidth.

 Configure the shared slots and blocking

transmission.
LAYERS
SPECIFICATIONS
 Transport Layer:

 provides end-end acknowledgement of

communications.

 Acknowledged transmissions include

automatic retransmission to confirm
successful data transfer.

 Supports TCP-like reliable blocking for

transmission of large data sets.
LAYERS
SPECIFICATIONS
 Application Layer:

 Device status for quality process.

 Commands aggregation for

multiple command.
CONCLUSION
 Wireless HART provides new
capabilities and more secure
process.

 The HART technology becomes the

leader of the wireless industrial
networks.
