Solar System

The document provides an overview of the solar system, defining it as the space where the Sun and various celestial bodies, including planets, moons, asteroids, and comets, exist and interact due to gravity. It details the characteristics of the eight planets, categorizing them into inner (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars) and outer planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune), and explains the roles of moons, asteroids, and comets. Additionally, it outlines the significance of the Sun as the central star that sustains life on Earth through its energy.

(SOLAR SYSTEM)

GROUP 4 MEMBERS

JADERANDY M.BARTOLO
GLENDEL BAO-AS
SOPHIA JEAN TAPAY
OBJECTIVES

 DEFINE THE SOLAR SYSTEM

 IDENTIFY
AND DESCRIBE THE
CHARACTERISTICS OF EACH PLANET IN THE
SOLAR SYSTEM
 EXPLAINTHE CONCEPT OF ORBITS AND HOW
THEY RELATE TO THE MOVEMENT OF
CELESTIAL BODIES
WHAT IS SOLAR SYSTEM?

 THESOLAR SYSTEM IS A SPACE IN WHICH THERE IS THE

SUN AND PLANETS REVOLVE AROUND IT DUE TO A
FORCE KNOWN AS GRAVITY.THE EARTH,THE OTHER
PLANETS,STARS, ASTEROIDS,AND COMETS THAT EXIST IN
THIS SPACE MAKE UP THE SOLAR SYSTEM.
WHAT IS THE 4 COMPONENTS OF
THE SOLAR SYSTEM?

SUN
PLANETS
MOONS
ASTEROIDS
WHAT IS SUN

 ITIS A HOT BALL OF GASES THAT GIVES OFF

GREAT AMOUNTS OF ENERGY.LIFE ON EARTH
DEPENDS ON LIGHT AND HEAT FROM THE
SUN. SOLAR SYSTEM ALSO CONTAINS
PLANETS,COMETS,AND ASTEROIDS.THEY ALL
ORBIT,OR TRAVEL AROUND,THE SUN.
WHAT IS PLANETS?

 PLANETS ARE. INTERACTIVE. LARGE NATURAL

OBJECTS THAT ORBIT, OR TRAVEL AROUND,
STARS. EIGHT PLANETS ORBIT THE STAR
CALLED THE SUN. IN ORDER FROM THE
CLOSEST TO THE SUN, THESE PLANETS ARE
MERCURY, VENUS, EARTH, MARS, JUPITER,
SATURN, URANUS, AND NEPTUNE.
WHAT IS MOONS

 MOONS ARE NATURAL OBJECTS THAT ORBIT

PLANTES.SCIENTISTS USUALLY REFER TO THEM
AS PLANETARY SATELLITES (HUMAN-MADE
SATELLITES ARE SOMETIMES CALLED
ARTIFICIAL MOONS).THERE ARE ABOUT 170
MOONS IN OUR SOLAR SYSTEM. MOST OF THEM
ARE IN ORBIT AROUND THE GAS GIANTS
JUPITER AND SATURN.
WHAT IS ASTEROIDS AND COMETS?

 AN ASTEROID IS A ROCKY OBJECT THAT ORBITS THE

SUN. ASTEROIDS ARE SMALLER THAN A PLANET, BUT
THEY ARE LARGER THAN THE PEBBLE-SIZE OBJECTS WE
CALL METEOROIDS. COMETS ARE SMALL ICY DIRTBALLS
THAT ORBIT THE SUN; COMETS ARE MADE OF ICE AND
DUST WHILE ASTEROIDS ARE MADE OF ROCK).
THE 4 INNER PLANET

PLANET MERCURY
 MERCURY IS A PLANET IN OUR SOLAR SYSTEM
 IT IS THE SMALLEST OF THE EIGHT PLANETS
 IT IS ALSO THE CLOSEST TO THE SUN
PLANET VENUS
 VENUS WAS NAMED AFTER THE ANCIENT ROMAN GODDESS OF
LOVE AND BEAUTY
 BUT ITS CONDITIONS ARE ANYTHING BUT HOSPITABLE AND
INVITING TO HUMANS
 VENUS IS EXTREMELY HOT AND DRY
 THE PLANET IS ALWAYS SHROUDED BY A THICK LAYER OF
THE 4 INNER PLANET
PLANET EARTH
 EARTH OR THE EARTH IS THE PLANET ON WHICH WE LIVE
 PEOPLE USUALLY SAY EARTH WHEN THEY ARE REFERRING TO THE PLANET
AS PART OF THE UNIVERSE
 AND THE EARTH WHEN THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT THE PLANET AS THE
PLACE WHERE WE LIVE
PLANET MARS
 NAMED AFTER THE ROMAN GOD OF WAR, MARS IS THE FOURTH PLANET
FROM THE SUN IN OUR SOLAR SYSTEM
 MARS IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE 'RED PLANET' BECAUSE, WELL, IT'S RED!
THIS SIGNATURE COLOUR COMES FROM THE LARGE AMOUNT OF A
CHEMICAL CALLED IRON OXIDE (OR 'RUST' AS YOU MIGHT KNOW IT) IN ITS
ROCKS AND SOIL
THE 4 OUTER PLANET

PLANET JUPITER
 JUPITER IS THE FIFTH PLANET FROM THE SUN
 JUPITER AND THE PLANETS BEYOND IT—SATURN, URANUS, AND
NEPTUNE—ARE CALLED GAS GIANTS
 THEY ARE HUGE AND MADE UP MOSTLY OF GASES
 THEY DO NOT HAVE A SOLID SURFACE
 INTERACTIVE
PLANET SATURN
 SATURN IS THE SIXTH PLANET FROM THE SUN
 IT WAS THE FARTHEST PLANET PEOPLE FROM ANCIENT TIMES KNEW
 URANUS AND NEPTUNE—THE TWO FARTHEST PLANETS—WERE NOT
DISCOVERED UNTIL MUCH LATER
THE 4 OUTER PLANET
PLANET URANUS
 URANUS IS THE SEVENTH PLANET FROM THE SUN.
 IT WAS NAMED AFTER THE GREEK GOD OF THE SKY.
 THE PLANET URANUS, ALONG WITH NEPTUNE, SATURN, AND JUPITER,
ARE CALLED GAS GIANTS.
 THEY ARE HUGE AND MADE UP MOSTLY OF GASES.
 THEY DO NOT HAVE A SOLID SURFACE.
PLANET NEPTUNE
 THE GOD OF THE SEA IN ROMAN MYTHOLOGY.
 NEPTUNE HAD CONTROL OF THE TIDES. IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY,
NEPTUNE IS CALLED POSEIDON.
 THE FOURTH LARGEST PLANET IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM AND EIGHTH IN
DISTANCE FROM THE SUN.
