CHEVENING INTERVIEW

PREPARATION
Introduction:

- We will have 30 minutes Q&A, and you can always reach to me.
CONGRATULATION
• How should you feel?

• You want Chevening but Chevening wants you too!

• The interview is just a ‘meeting’ so they know that you are the one who
wrote the essays.

• It’s your chance to ‘promote yourself’, explain, talk, and ask… don’t be shy.

• You wrote your articles, and you can manage an interview in English!
How should I prepare?

- CHEVENING WEBSITE
- YouTube videos, old Cheveners, and mock interviews
- Groups mock interviews
- Read your essays
- Write your notes
- Build a clear vision of who you are and where you want to be
- Prepare with a friend
- Do not overdo it!
• Online interview Vs in-person interview
• Online interview:
- Interview link
- Microphone, light, and camera test
- Quiet place
- No distractions
• In-person interviews
- Don’t forget your ID/ Passport
- Be confident
- Smile 
- Notes?!
• How will the interview be?
- Three panelists: two locals, and one British (There may be experts).
- They will introduce themselves and ask you to do so.
- They will ask DIRECT QUESTIONS related to your essays.
- Follow-up questions.
- It’s a conversation.
- Be honest!
- You will have the opportunity to ask too.
• How should I introduce myself?

- Make it natural, don’t recite a prepared script.


- You are not just a (Name, age, studies)
- Tell them who you are in 2 minutes, take your time, and tell them about
your education, your experience, and why you want to pursue a master’s
in the UK.
- Remember, you are here because you CAN be a Chevener, don’t stress!
• Essays questions:
- You should talk about what you already wrote in your essays.
- You can elaborate on what you already wrote.
- Try to always explain a (situation, task, act, and result).
- Be specific, focus on the question.
- Ask them to repeat if you did not hear or understand.
- Talk about any new experiences you had after you submitted the essays.
- Check UK values, and UK mission in your country.
• They will ask about your leadership experience, networking, career plan,
and why the UK.
• Lead the interview… THEY WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU.
• Show them that you know your selected programs and universities and
you know how this will help you achieve your goals.
• If you felt that you were not clear enough, or you missed something,
repeat add, or rephrase.
• Stay calm.
• If they critique you, it is not necessarily a negative sign.
• Don’t be afraid to make it personal.
Additional questions:

• What are the skills you wish to have and improve in the upcoming 5 years?
(You should answer in relevance to the course-related skills)

• How will this course help you achieve something that you will not achieve without
studying?

• Why did you choose to study this field, and why is it important to your country?

• Tell me about a time you had to make a difficult decision?
