Life Cycle of

a Butterfly
Learning Competency:

 The learners use flowchart to compare the

different stages in the life cycle of animals, such
as butterfly, frog, chicken and human.

Objectives :

a. Identify the four stages of the

butterfly's life cycle

b. Describe the different stages in

the life cycle of a butterfly.

c. Appreciate the importance of

butterflies in the ecosystem
Review
1. What are the two organ systems
of a plant?

2. Give me an example of a plant

organ and its function
Activity : Arrange Me!

Instructions:

1.The teacher will divide the class into 2 groups.

2. The teacher will give each group a set of cards or
pictures illustrating the four stages of a butterfly’s life
cycle.
3. Ask each group to work together to arrange the
pictures correctly.
4. After groups complete the arrangement, have them
share their sequence with the class.
Analysis
• What stage did the butterfly start from the pictures
you arranged?

• What happens after a butterfly lays eggs? What do

the eggs turn into?
Life Cycle
Stages
EGG STAGE

It begins with the adult

butterfly laying small, oval
eggs on leaves.
LARVA STAGE

The egg hatches into a

caterpillar or larva. The
caterpillar eats leaves
to grow bigger and
stronger.
PUPA STAGE

The caterpillar wraps itself

in a hard shell called a
chrysalis. Inside, the
caterpillar undergoes
metamorphosis, a
process where it
completely transforms into
butterfly.
ADULT BUTTERFLY

The butterfly finally

comes out of the
chrysalis with wings.
As an adult, it can fly,
find food, and lay eggs
to start the cycle
again.
Application
Activity Time
Group 1: Draw Me

First Group: Draw me!

• Group 1 will draw the life cycle of a

butterfly
• Ask them to label each stage clearly
• After completing the drawing, invite a
representative to share and explain their
work with the class.
Group 2: Match the Butterfly’s Life Cycle Stages to Their Ecosystem Roles

BUTTERFLY MIGRATION
Migratory Species
Some butterflies, such as the
Monarch, migrate long distances to
find suitable breeding and feeding
grounds.

Patterns
Migration patterns are often
seasonal, with butterflies traveling to
warmer climates during colder
months.

Reasons
Butterflies migrate to find food,
suitable habitat, and to avoid
adverse weather conditions.
