Introduction to Computer
•Computer Components
•Types of Hardware
•Types of Software
At the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
Build understanding about computer and describe the components of a
personal computer.
Explain and clarify the differences between components of computer—
Hardware and Software.
Understand the fundamentals of computer hardware and software as
well as advanced concepts.
Give examples of major types of application and system software.
Explain the purpose of several popular software packages for end-user
productivity and collaborative computing.
Define and describe the functions of an operating system.
Components of computer
Hardware
Software
HARDWARE
Computer hardware includes the physical parts of a computer, such as the case, central processing unit,
monitor, keyboard, computer data storage, graphics card, sound card, speakers and motherboard.

There are two types of hardware device: Input and Output Device.

An input device is a hardware or peripheral device used to send data to a computer. An input device
allows users to communicate and feed instructions and data to computers for processing, display,
storage and/or transmission.

Output devices relay the response from the computer in the form of a visual response (monitor) or
sound (speakers). The purpose of these devices is to translate the machine's response to a usable form
for the computer user. Output devices is to receive information that you can see, read or hear.
SOFTWARE
SOFTWARE
is the general term for various kinds of programs used to operate and
manipulate computers and their peripheral devices.

In computer science and software engineering, computer software is

all information processed by computer system, programs and data. Computer
software includes computer programs, libraries and related non-
executable data, such as online documentation or digital media. Computer
hardware and software require each other and neither can be realistically
used on its own.
TYPES OF SOFTWARE
SYSTEM SOFTWARE
is a generic phrase referring to the computer programs used to start and
run computer systems and networks. System software contrasts
with application software, programming tools and malware.
