• “RECYCLE” means to process used or waste
materials so they can be used or waste

Top recycling statistic news
• Globally, waste management and recycling rates vary significantly by
country. It is estimated that 50-60% of total waste worldwide can be
recycled, while in developed countries, this rate reaches 80-90%.
• In Mongolia, an average of 3.5 million tons of waste is generated
annually, but only 3-4% of it is recycled. This figure is 20-30 times lower
than the global average.
• Regarding plastic waste, over the past 50 years, approximately 8 billion
tons of plastic waste have accumulated worldwide, with around 80%
ending up in landfills and 3% being discarded into oceans. Studies
suggest that by 2050, the amount of plastic waste in the ocean could
surpass the quantity of fish. In Mongolia, there are currently 21 plastic
recycling plants, 3 waste oil recycling plants, and 1 recycling facility each
for paper and aluminum.
• To increase recycling rates, Mongolia needs to improve waste
management, expand the number of recycling facilities, and implement
international standards.
