1. Import
Footage
Before you can edit your
media files, you’ll need
to import your Premiere
project.
Once imported, your
media files will appear
as clips in the Project
panel
Note : Always use list
view in the Finder
Import Footage/Media Files
● Copy all your media files into your project folder. Note: If you do not
copy your media files into your project folder, you will lose all your
media files and your Premiere project will not work.
● In your premiere project, go to File on the menu bar and choose
Import.
● Navigate to your project folder and then select the media files you
would like to import.
● Click Import. Your media files will appear as clips the Project
panel.
2. Create a
Sequence
➔ Sequence is essentially the
area for video editing
timeline
➔ Most of your editing,
arranging, effects and
exporting will require a
sequence within which you
will edit
➔ You’ll drop your files into a
sequence within which and
begin creating a video from
all of your rough elements.
Create a sequence
● To create a sequence, click and drag a video clip from the Project panel to the
Timeline panel. Note: Be sure to use a video clip. Do not use a still image. Premiere
will create a sequence based on the video and audio settings of the clip. Note: If you
have clips from different video sources, use a clip from the video source that will be
used most frequently throughout your Premiere project.
● Select the clip in your sequence and press Delete (on keyboard) to remove it from
your sequence. The clip will disappear but the sequence will remain in the Timeline
panel.
● Your sequence will have the same name as the clip used to create it. To rename your
sequence, select it in the Project panel and give it a new name.
3. Add a title
➔ Titles can be created right inside
Adobe Premiere Pro without much
extra work

create captions or subtitles

Creating your title
● Choose File > New > Title
● Specify the title name and click OK
Tip : Adjust the timeline playhead to the position where you’d like the title to appear .
This will be used as the background video when you’re working on your title
The built-in Title tool will open up, where you’ll be able to create your title. Here’s a quick
overview of Title tool:
● Tools (top left) Choose different tools to work with on your titles
● Actions (bottom left) Align, center and distribute your titles accordingly
● Properties (right) Customize your titles
● Styles (bottom center) Choose from a collection of title styles
Writing your text
● Choose the Type Tool on the top left
● Click anywhere in the main window to create a text box
● Write your text
● Once done, choose the Selection Tool (arrow) and position your title
● Tip: Use the Center action tools to center your titles horizontally and vertically
Customizing your title
You can customize your title using the Properties bar on the right (Size, Font, Color). Make sure the
text box is selected when you want to make changes.

● Tip: You can also select different parts of your text using the Type Tool and modify them
separately. This can be useful if you’d like to have size or color differences in one title.

There are also pre-set Title Styles you can choose from. Again, make sure your text box is selected
and then make the changes.

Once you’re done customizing your title, close the Titler tool and your title will appear in your Project
window under the name you specified.
Dragging your title to the timeline
● Drag your title from the Project window onto the timeline
● Position the title clip accordingly on the timeline and adjust its length if needed
● You can also add transitions to the start/end of a title

Working with templates


To import a title as a template:

● Open your title


● Choose Title > Templates
● In the Templates window, click on the top-right menu
● Choose > Import Current Title as Template

● Select the title in the Project Window and choose File
> Export > Title

Adding an audio clip to your sequence

●Locate the audio file in the Project panel.


●Click and drag the audio file from the
Project panel into your sequence. Note:
Audio files go in the audio tracks of a
sequence (A1, A2, etc.)
Adjusting the audio level of an individual clip
● In the Timeline, select the clip you would like to adjust.
● Go to Window on the menu bar and select Audio Clip Mixer.
● Play the clip in the Timeline to monitor the audio levels in the Audio Clip Mixer. The audio track
names in the Audio Clip Mixer correspond to the audio track names in the Timeline (A1 in the
Timeline is A1 in the Mixer, etc.)
● To adjust the audio level of the selected clip, click and drag the track’s Fader in the Audio Clip
Mixer. (Note: audio levels should generally be between -12 and -6 db.)
● To exit the Audio Clip Mixer, go to Window on the menu bar. Choose Source Monitor and select
your clip from the fly-out menu.
Adjusting the audio level of all clips in a track
● Go to Window on the menu bar. Select Audio Track Mixer.
● Play your project in the Timeline. In the Audio Track Mixer, observe the levels of the audio tracks
(A1, A2, A3.)
● To adjust the level of an audio track, click and drag the track's fader in the Audio Track Mixer.
(Note: audio levels should generally be between -12 and -6 dB.) Adjusting the track's fader will
change the audio levels of all clips in the track.
● To exit the Audio Clip Mixer, go to Window on the menu bar. Select Source Monitor.
5. Export an MP4

➔ You’ll export an
MP4 file as your
finished product.
You can upload this
MP4 file to
YouTube.
Normal quality MP4 (faster encode time)
Important: Make sure the Timeline panel selected before exporting your video. To select the Timeline
panel, click within Timeline panel. When selected, the Timeline panel will have a blue border around it.

● Go to File on the menu bar. Select Export. From the fly-out menu, select Media. The Export
dialog box will appear.
● In the File Name field, enter a name for your exported file.
● In the Location area, click the blue hyperlink to the set the location for the exported file. If
necessary, navigate to and select your project folder.
● In the Preset drop-down list, select High Quality 1080p HD.
● In the Format drop-down list, select H.264. Note: Do not select H.264 Blueray.
● In the Range drop-down list (beneath video preview), select Entire Sequence.
● Click Export.
High quality MP4 (longer encode time)
Important: Make sure the Timeline panel selected before exporting your video. To select the Timeline
panel, click within Timeline panel. When selected, the Timeline panel will have a blue border around
it.

● Go to File on the menu bar. Select Export. From the fly-out menu, select Media. The Export
dialog box will appear.
● In the File Name field, enter a name for your exported file.
● In the Location area, click the blue hyperlink to the set the location for the exported file. If
necessary, navigate to and select your project folder.
● In the Preset drop-down list, select High Quality 1080p HD.
● In the Format drop-down list, select H.264. Note: Do not select H.264 Blueray.
● In the Video section, click the chevron icon to see all available Video settings.
● In the Video section, scroll down to Bitrate Settings. In the Bitrate Encoding drop-down list,
choose VBR, 2 pass.
● In the Range drop-down list (beneath video preview), select Entire Sequence.
● Click Export.
