Private Cloud

Private cloud, also known as internal or corporate cloud, provides computing services to a private network, ensuring high security and privacy for data. It is characterized by scalability, accessibility, elasticity, shared resources, and metered consumption, but is often more costly than public clouds. Key providers include VMware, Microsoft, and Amazon, while Eucalyptus is an open-source platform for building private clouds compatible with Amazon services.

UNIT 3---Private Cloud

Private Cloud definition

• Private cloud is also known as an internal
cloud or corporate cloud.
• Private cloud provides computing services to a private
internal network (within the
organization) and selected users instead of the
general public.
• Private cloud provides a high level of
security and privacy to data through firewalls and
internal hosting. It also ensures that operational and
sensitive data are not accessible to third-party
providers.
• HP Data Centers, Microsoft, Elastra-private cloud, and
The five characteristics of a
private cloud:
1. Scalable: High levels of utilization (e.g., through virtualization,
and the size and maturity of data centers)

2. Accessible: IT customers can self-provision

3. Elastic: Appearance of infinite capacity on demand

4. Shared: Workloads are multiplexed, capacity is pooled

5. Metered consumption: Ability to pay for use with no

commitment
Private Cloud Deployment
Model
• As the name suggests, Private Cloud lets you use
the infrastructure and resources of a single
organization.

• Users and organizations do not share resources with

other users. That is why it is also called an Internal or
corporate model.

• Private clouds are more costly than public clouds due to

their costly maintenance.
Examples of top Private Cloud
Deployment model Providers:
• Amazon Web Services
• Microsoft Azure
• Google Cloud Platform
• Dell
• Cisco
Advantages of Private Cloud

1) More Control
2) Security & privacy
3) Improved performance
Limitations of Private Cloud
• It is not the right choice for small companies due to its
cost. It requires maintaining its infrastructure in-house,
leading to staff training and spending a lot on
hardware and software.
• It offers fixed scalability as per the choice of
hardware.
Private Cloud Vendors
• A private cloud is a virtual data center operated for an
enterprise by an enterprise, and the following parameters
will have to be evaluated before selecting a service provider.
• Multi-Tenancy: --Multitenancy is when several different
cloud customers are accessing the same computing
resources.
• A key feature to manage multiple user groups such as Individual
users, departments, offices, and divisions and share the resources
based on requirements.

• Billing: Individual user groups need to be billed based on

their usage.
• Reporting: Consumption of each user group should be
reported
• API: The platform should provide interfaces with other
service providers and make them available whenever
demanded
• Delivery: It should deliver resources to the users as a
service
• Elastic: Scale up and scale down should be possible
with ease
Top 10 Private Cloud Providers
1. VMware
2. Microsoft
3. Red hat
4. Dell
5. Hewlett Packard Enterprise
6. Citrix
7. Oracle
8. IBM
9. SAP
Cloud Stack
• A cloud stack is a collection of services and resources in your
Amazon Web Services (AWS) account which holds all of the
infrastructure needed to run your Moodle site.

• A stack commonly consists of- Security groups, Network file systems,

EC2 web server instances.

• Apache CloudStack is an Open Source infrastructure as a service (IaaS)

platform that allows IT service providers to offer public cloud services.

• CloudStack can also be used by businesses that want to provide their own
private cloud and hybrid cloud services on-premises.
• CloudStack includes
-a compute function that allocates virtual machines (VMs) to individual
servers,

- a network function that manages switches to create and manage logical

networks, object and block storage systems, an image management
function

- a cloud computing management interface that supports all of the

software stack’s components.
• CloudStack allows administrators to deploy and manage large
networks of virtual machines running the following hypervisors:

• VMware
• KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine )
• Citrix XenServer
• Xen Cloud Platform (XCP)
• Oracle VM server
• Microsoft Hyper-V
CloudStack features
CloudStack includes features for:

• Compute orchestration
• Resource management
• User and account management
• LDAP integration ((Lightweight Directory Access Protocol))
• MPLS support (Multiprotocol label switching)
• Storage tiering
• Single Sign-On (SSO)
Introduction to Eucalyptus-Elastic Utility
Computing Architecture for Linking Your Programs To Useful
Systems.
• Eucalyptus is a Linux-based open-source software
architecture for cloud computing and also a storage
platform that implements Infrastructure a Service
(IaaS).

• It provides quick and efficient computing services.

• Eucalyptus was designed to provide services

compatible with Amazon’s EC2 cloud and Simple
Storage Service(S3).
Eucalyptus Architecture

CLC-Cloud controller

Walrus --storage
controller and
service

NC- Node controller

CC-cluster controller
• Eucalyptus CLIs (Command Line Interface) can handle Amazon
Web Services and their private instances.

• Clients have the independence to transfer cases from

Eucalyptus to Amazon Elastic Cloud.

• The virtualization layer oversees the Network, storage,

and Computing. Occurrences are isolated by hardware
virtualization.
Important Features are:-
• Supports both Linux and Windows virtual machines (VMs).

• Application program interface- (API) compatible with Amazon EC2 platform.

• Compatible with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Simple Storage Service (S3).

• Works with multiple hypervisors including VMware, Xen, and KVM.

• Can be installed and deployed from source code packages.

• Internal processes communications are secured through SOAP(Simple Object Access

Protocol ) and WS-Security (Web Services Security)

• Multiple clusters can be virtualized as a single cloud.

• Administrative features such as user and group management and reports.

Components of Architecture
• Node Controller is the lifecycle of instances running
on each node. Interacts with the operating system,
hypervisor, and Cluster Controller. It controls the
working of VM instances on the host machine.

• Cluster Controller manages one or more Node

Controller and Cloud Controller simultaneously. It
gathers information and schedules VM execution.
• Storage Controller (Walrus) Allows the creation of
snapshots of volumes. Persistent block storage over VM
instances. Walrus Storage Controller is a simple file
storage system. It stores images and snapshots. Stores
and serves files using S3(Simple Storage Service) APIs.

• Cloud Controller Front-end for the entire architecture.

It acts as a Complaint Web Services to client tools on
one side and interacts with the rest of the components
on the other side.
Operation Modes Of Eucalyptus
• Managed Mode
• Managed (No VLAN) Node
• System Mode
• Static Mode
Advantages Of The Eucalyptus
Cloud
1.Eucalyptus can be utilized to benefit both the Eucalyptus private cloud and the
Eucalyptus public cloud.

2.Examples of Amazon or Eucalyptus machine pictures can be run on both clouds.

3.Its API is completely similar to all the Amazon Web Services.

4.Eucalyptus can be utilized with DevOps apparatuses like Chef and Puppet.

5.Although it isn’t as popular yet but has the potential to be an alternative to

OpenStack and CloudStack.

6.It is used to gather hybrid, public, and private clouds.

Disadvantages of Eucalyptus:
1.Limited Functionality:
2.Complexity:
3.Community Support
4.Integration Challenges
5.Scalability:
6.Vendor Lock-in:
7.Performance:
8. Resource Consumption:
What is the use of eucalyptus
in cloud computing?
• It is utilized to assemble hybrid, public and private
clouds.

• It can likewise deliver your data center into a private

cloud and permit you to stretch out the usefulness to
numerous different organizations.
