INTRODUCTION

• Social media is widely used among rural youth in Bangladesh.


• Platforms like Facebook and TikTok influence their mental health
and academics (Aftabunnahar, 2023).
• Lack of digital literacy and parental guidance worsens the
problem.
• This research explores solutions to minimize negative impacts.
PROBLEM STATEMENT

• High social media usage among rural youth leads to:


- Poor mental health (anxiety, depression, cyberbullying)
- Academic distractions and lower performance
- Exposure to misinformation and online harassment
• Limited parental oversight and digital literacy worsen
these challenges.

LITERATURE REVIEW

• Studies link excessive social media use to:


- Increased anxiety, depression, and sleep issues
- Lower academic performance (Chowdhury, 2024)
- Cyberbullying and misinformation exposure (Ferdous &
Huda, 2023)

• Digital literacy is low, and parental guidance is minimal


(Haque et al., 2024).
• Research lacks focus on rural Bangladesh and gender-
specific insights.
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

• Socio-Ecological Model:
- Individual: Impulsiveness, addiction, lack of time
management
- Community: Limited digital literacy, lack of awareness
- Society: Cultural beliefs and rural-urban divide
(Hammond et al., 2023)
• This model helps identify intervention points.
HYPOTHESES

H1: Social media misuse negatively impacts mental health.


H2: Social media misuse reduces academic performance.
H3: Lack of parental oversight worsens the issue.
H4: Digital literacy programs can reduce misuse effects.
METHODOLOGY

• Quantitative research with 500 rural youth (ages 15-24).


• Online surveys via Google Forms.
• Data analysis through statistical tools (correlation, cross-
tabulation, visualization).
FINDINGS & ANALYSIS

• Excessive social media use correlates with:


- Increased anxiety and depression
- Reduced academic focus and performance
• Cyberbullying and misinformation are widespread.
• Digital literacy is low, and business solutions are needed.
BUSINESS SOLUTIONS

• Digital literacy programs: Awareness campaigns, training


sessions (Haque et al., 2024).
• Edutainment apps: Gamified learning for responsible
social media use.
• Business-driven interventions: Subscription-based
educational tools (Islam et al., 2024).
• Partnerships with policymakers and local communities.
