UNITED:LIKEMINDED

I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord

Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be
no divisions among you, but that you be united in the
same mind and the same judgment. (1 Corinthians
1:10 ESV)

Complete my joy by being of the same mind, having

the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.
(Philippians 2:2 ESV)
Unity
• It is about coming together, despite our differences, to
serve a common purpose.
• It is about recognizing that we are all part of the same
body, each with unique gifts and roles, but all working
towards the same goal.
• It is a gift from God, made possible through the work of
the Holy Spirit in our lives.
• It is about harmony, mutual respect, and love.
Unity
• It is about harmony, mutual respect, and love.
• It reflects a shared vision, values, and a willingness to
work through differences and find common ground.
• It requires open communication, empathy, and a
genuine desire to understand and respect each other's
perspectives.
Likeminded
• It’s about having the same mindset as Christ.
• Philippians 2:5, "In your relationships with one another,
have the same mindset as Christ Jesus."
• This means that we should strive to think, act, and love
like Jesus.
• It means that we should put others before ourselves,
serve without expecting anything in return, and love
unconditionally, just as Jesus did.
Biblical Examples

• Genesis 11:6 (NLT)

• Look!” he said. “The people are united, and they all
speak the same language. After this, nothing they set
out to do will be impossible for them!
Biblical Examples
• 2 Chronicles 5:11
• 11 Then the priests left the Holy Place. All the priests who were present had purified themselves,
whether or not they were on duty that day. 12 And the Levites who were musicians—Asaph,
Heman, Jeduthun, and all their sons and brothers—were dressed in fine linen robes and stood at
the east side of the altar playing cymbals, lyres, and harps. They were joined by 120 priests who
were playing trumpets. 13 The trumpeters and singers performed together in unison to praise
and give thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments, they
raised their voices and praised the Lord with these words:
• “He is good!
His faithful love endures forever!”
• At that moment a thick cloud filled the Temple of the Lord. 14 The priests could not continue
their service because of the cloud, for the glorious presence of the Lord filled the Temple of God.
Biblical Examples

• Ruth 1:16
• 16 But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back.
Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your
people will be my people, and your God will be my God.
Role of Unity
• BUILDS UP RELATIONSHIP
• When we are united in purpose and mindset, we can
accomplish much more than we could on our own. We can
support one another, encourage one another, and build each
other up in love.
• Unity in relationships is the bedrock upon which trust,
understanding, and love are built. It's not about losing oneself
but about finding strength in togetherness.

Role of Unity
• CAST THE NATURE OF GOD
• The Trinity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - is the perfect model
of unity and likemindedness. Each member of the Trinity is
distinct, yet they are one.
• They work together in perfect harmony, each playing a unique
role, but all working towards the same purpose.
• As believers, when we embody unity and likemindedness, we
reflect this aspect of God's nature to the world.
Role of Unity

• EFFECTIVE TOOL FOR EVANGELISM

• Jesus himself prayed in John 17:21 that all believers would be
one, "so that the world may believe that you have sent me."
• When the world sees the unity and likemindedness among
believers, it is a powerful testimony to the truth of the gospel.
CONCERNS
• FAITH OF OTHERS
• Romans 14:13 NRSV Let us therefore no longer pass judgment
on one another but resolve instead never to put a stumbling
block or hindrance in the way of another.
• Even if we feel we have freedom to do certain things that do
not violate the will of God, the law of love should cause us to
avoid any behavior that may cause another brother or sister to
stumble and fall into sin.”
CONCERNS
• BEING A PEACEMAKER
• Romans 14:19 NRSV So then we pursue the things which make
for peace and the building up of one another.
• Pursue unity in every area of life - be a peacemaker at home,
community, workplace, school, online, and in the marketplace.
• James 3:18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of
righteousness.
CONCERNS
• IMPACT ON THOSE OUTSIDE THE CHURCH
• The secular realm can be a place of antagonism, bitterness
and factions. Little wonder that weary souls worn down by this
often search for an environment where divisiveness is
minimal. Many hope to find in Christ’s Church this harbor. If
they instead encounter false-compassion and hypocritical
jockeying for influence, they can easily conclude that the
church is hypocritical: promising solace but offering rancor.
HOW?
• Realize that unity is possible. It is not easy but achievable.
• Psalm133:1 “How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!”
• 1 Cor 1:10 “I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that
all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you
and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought.”
• Unity is possible if we, believers are deeply connected with God and Scriptures.
• They require us to put aside our own desires and preferences for the sake of
other people. They require us to bear with one another in love, even when it's
hard. But the rewards are worth it.
HOW?
• Realize that it is not automatic. It is a process.
• Creating and maintaining unity takes effort. Every believer must
do his part. Make every effort – tells us this is not always easy,
but it is essential.
• 1 Peter 3:8 “Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another;
be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and
humble.”
• We are not just trying to be nice; we are trying to be disciples of
Jesus.
