 INTRODUCTIO
N

• Facial Emotion Recognition (FER) is the process of

identifying and interpreting human emotions from facial
expressions using technology.

• Emotion Detection through facial gestures is a technology

that aims to improve product and services performance by
monitoring customer behavior to certain products or
service staff by their evaluation.
 REQUIREMENT

 Hardware

 CPU – i5
 RAM - 8GB
 SSD - 256G
 CAMERA – 720p Or 1080p
 Software Requirement

 Os - window 11
 Language - python (Deep learning , Transfer
learning )
 Jupyter Notebook
 Tensorflow
 Opencv
 Keras
 NumPy
 Pandas
 Matplotlib
 Dataset - kaggle(fer2013)
 LITERATURE SURVEY

• Ekman & Friesen (1971):Pioneers in identifying universal

emotions (e.g., happiness, sadness, fear).Developed the
Facial Action Coding System (FACS) to categorize facial
movements.

• Viola-Jones Algorithm (2001):Introduced a robust method

for real-time face detection. Basis for many modern facial
recognition systems.
• Zhang et al. (2012):Proposed a method using Local Binary
Patterns (LBP) for effective facial feature extraction.

• CNNs for FER (2016–present):Convolutional Neural Networks

(CNNs) significantly improved accuracy by automatically
learning spatial hierarchies of features.
 METHODOLOGY

• The proposed system enable a computer to detect the

seven universal emotions of human through detection
of facial expressions.

• The system may be useful in health care centers for

automated surveillance of psychological and
physiological state of human through detection of
facial expressions in real-time
 PRINCIPAL OF WORKING

• How Facial Expression Recognition Works?

 Steps involved:

1. Image Acquisition: Capturing the face image (through a camera).

2. Face Detection: Identifying and isolating the face from the rest of the
image.

3. Feature Extraction: Extracting important features like eyes, mouth, and

overall structure

4. Emotion Classification: Mapping facial features to emotional expressions

(e.g., happy, sad, angry).
 FEATURES

• Facial Landmarks: Detection of key points (e.g., eyes,

mouth, nose) to analyze facial structure.

• Expression Analysis: Identification of muscle movements

that correspond to specific emotions.

• Feature Extraction: Techniques such as Gabor filters or

Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) to extract relevant
features from images.
• Deep Learning Models: Use of Convolutional Neural
Networks (CNNs) for robust emotion classification.

• Emotion Classifier: Algorithms that categorize detected

expressions into predefined emotional states.

• Temporal Analysis: Tracking changes in facial expressions

over time for dynamic emotion detection.

• Lighting and Angle Compensation: Adjusting for variations

in lighting and facial orientation to improve accuracy.
 AREA OF APPLICATION
• Healthcare

• Marketing

• Security

• Gaming

• Entertainment

• Human Computer Interaction

 FUTURE WORK
• Real Time Feedback

• Cross-Cultural Recognition

• Wearable Technology

• User Centric Design

• Augmented With AI

• Multi-Modal Approaches
 CONCLUSION

• Facial Emotion recognition is transforming technology and

human interaction.

• Application are vast but challenges especially ethical once,

need to be addressed.
