BBCI IT Team Develops In-House LIS Integration for Enhanced Lab Operations

Machine integration of laboratory analyzers with the Laboratory Information System (LIS) is a crucial advancement that enables smooth and automated
communication between diagnostic equipment and the central laboratory database. This integration ensures accurate and efficient exchange of patient
information, test orders, and results. The bidirectional communication streamlines data flow, reduces manual entry errors, shortens turnaround times, and
significantly improves overall laboratory workflow. It also enhances quality control, provides detailed audit trails, and ensures compliance with laboratory
standards making it an essential part of modern lab operations.

Upon completion of the test on the machine, the generated report file shall be transmitted to the designated FTP folder via BCILink. The interfacing software
continuously monitors the FTP folder, and upon detecting a new report file, it retrieves the file, parses the data, and stores the information in the database,
associating it with the corresponding requisition number.

XN-1000™ Automated Hematology Analyzer Machine Integration
The Sysmex XN-1000 is an automated hematology analyzer used in clinical laboratories to perform complete blood counts (CBC) and advanced blood
analysis. It provides accurate and rapid measurements of red and white blood cells, platelets, hemoglobin, and other key parameters. The system offers high
throughput, advanced diagnostics like reticulocyte counts and abnormal cell detection, and integrates with lab information systems for efficient workflow.
It's widely used for routine checkups, disease diagnosis, and monitoring of treatments, ensuring reliable and consistent results with minimal manual
intervention.

Data Transmission and Processing
First, the sample is scanned on the analyzer, which then sends aSequence
query to the host PC regarding the scanned sample. The host PC responds with an
acknowledgment and sends the test order back to the analyzer. Based on this order, the analyzer performs the required tests for that specific sample. Once
testing is complete, the analyzer automatically transmits the results to the host PC. The interfacing software on the host system receives the data, parses it,
and records it in the database, linking it to the corresponding requisition number. This process involves bidirectional communication between the analyzer
and the host system.

Laboratory analyzer integration was successfully implemented using ASP.NET (C#) and the ASTM (American Society for
Testing and Materials) communication protocol. The integration enabled real-time data exchange between the laboratory
information system (LIS) and the analyzer. The solution was developed and implemented by Mr. Dibyajyoti Kalita
(Computer Programmer) under the technical guidance of Mr. Raja Sekhar Sir (Deputy IT Head).
