Generation X is consistently characterized by being the first American generation to grow up as latchkey kids having a set of parents working outside of the home
Theory X managers assume that people are: intrinsically lazy take no responsibility incapable of self-discipline want security. They believe that : people must be controlled and threatened before they will work Autocratic leadership style is the only one that works.

They tend to avoid corporate politics they have no orientation for it They are generally not very interested in traditional perks but (WARNING!!!) they will bail out if they see Boomers getting excessive perks They are usually motivated by the prospect of independence, the lack of corporate structure, a lack of rigidity, and the latest technological advances.

Generation Y (1980-1999 ,1982-2001)


Generation Y has grown up around various phenomena including the Internet with online chatting, Wikipedia, YouTube and its numerous informational resources, digital video and music, Tickle Me Elmos, continued abuse of underage drinking and iPods.
Theory Y managers assume that people like their work, are intrinsically motivated, follow self-control and do seek responsibility. They believe Employees can be consulted participative approach works the best

How to teach, train, and orient them?


Allow plenty of orientation time Create a clear, realistic picture of the work environment good and bad

Spell out expectations and goals


Take the time to find out their goals and help them define a strategy for meeting them Take note that gender roles of the previous generations do not apply
