The workshop was planned to discuss the temperature and moisture profile retrievals from the current and future sounding sensors. The main objective of the workshop was to make recommendations to the management and plan a road map for better soundings. The other goals of the workshop were to understand the retrieval approaches at an appropriate level of detail including the input used, processing steps such as angle adjusting and cloud clearing, equations used, and the reason for approach. There were approaches discussed including 1D-Var, AIRS retrieval system, POES retrieval system, GOES retrieval system, and Microwave retrieval system. A vision statement was also provided.
