Meta AI has reached one billion monthly active users across its applications, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the company’s annual shareholder meeting on Wednesday. This milestone, first reported by CNBC, doubles the 500 million monthly active users recorded in September 2024.
Zuckerberg stated, “The focus for this year is deepening the experience and making Meta AI the leading personal AI with an emphasis on personalization, voice conversations and entertainment.”
Meta’s current strategy involves continuing the development of its AI assistant prior to establishing a business model. Zuckerberg indicated that future upgrades to the assistant could allow for “opportunities to either insert paid recommendations” or the introduction of “a subscription service so that people can pay to use more compute.”
The potential launch of a paid subscription service would position Meta as a competitor to AI chat applications like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
This announcement follows the release of a stand-alone Meta AI app last month.
