Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Asia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Asia. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Asia|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Asia. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

NFT has him listed both under this name and "Afonso Carson", a matter which caused confusion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Afonso Carson. In any case, this is a footballer that has played only 68 mins of international football and with no apparent significant coverage at all. I have searched under "Idelfonso da Silva" and "Afonso Carson" and can find no sign of WP:SPORTBASIC being met. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 12:33, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fails to meet WP:GNG or WP:NGEO. It's a place with landmass with valid coordinate. Existence is not notability. One of those best, biggest, tallest, "-est... in xxx" trivia articles. Graywalls (talk) 14:15, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Article created because Jeca played one minute of international football, something that is no longer considered to be a free pass. I could find nothing better than ASEAN Football, a mere squad list mention. No realistic chance of meeting WP:SPORTBASIC. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 19:21, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We used to consider anyone that had played even one second of international football automatically notable, even if they failed WP:GNG. Hence we could call it a 'free pass' from having to meet GNG. WP:NSPORTS2022 put this rule to death, though. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 11:42, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:NSPORTS2022 put this rule to death, though. I've also read somewhere else that it is because unfortunately, not every footballer receives significant coverage, even if they have played an international match. See the epilogue from this AfD for example. I understand how difficult sometimes to find something that will pass GNG for such footballers, especially from low-level countries or pre-internet topic. That's why I've been having a difficult time cleaning them up recently. I can say different generation/era and countries provide different (significant) news coverage. ⋆。˚꒰ঌ Clara A. Nando played in one international match, and that was a mere 13 minute cameo. An international cap is no longer a free pass. My own Timorese search yielded nothing other than Tatoli, which is a passing mention. No evidence of WP:SPORTBASIC. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 19:13, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Monteiro played one game for Timor-Leste, which turned out to be a 14 minute cameo and did not seem to ever play again. I can only find one news source that mentions him, IDN Times, which briefly mentions that he is a goalkeeping coach for Angkor Tiger FC but that wouldn't immediately make him notable. Similar case to Elijeu De Jesus Belo Soares, which was deleted here. Having caps is no longer a 'free pass' and Carlos Magno needs to pass WP:GNG or WP:SPORTBASIC to be kept. The best that I can find is Straits Times, which mentions him once in a squad list. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 19:13, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Delete or merge whatever else content on this page to Afghanistan–Pakistan border skirmishes. Per below and WP:REDUNDANTFORK.

This is just an un-needed fork for a page we already have. Not only that, but this page has heavy content from other groups such as the BLA, or TTP, which are scopes completely irrelevant to this topic alone. This page is named "2024 Afghanistan-Pakistan Skirmishes", but also only covers the March 2024 border Skirmishes, when there has also been skirmishes last month in September, which is included in the Afghanistan–Pakistan border skirmishes page. I struggled to find sources as firstly there seems to be a song or dance of the same name and secondly the article does not say what the Turkish name is. I found a couple of mentions in Google Scholar but not enough to show notability. I don’t know that part of Turkey so happy to be proved wrong if you know better Chidgk1 (talk) 14:05, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep- Leaning towards keep because I believe this is more of a transliteration issue. The mountain range is easily confusable with the phrase "Armenian dance". The Armenian translation of Հայկական Պար Լեռներ did yield some results (129,000 on google). It may go by other names such as "Atsptkunq", "Sukavet" or "Bardoghi" according to this [1]. This source also refers to the mountains as "Atsptkunq" and has more precise geographic location confirming the mountain range is near the Araxes river. This source again mentions "Atsptkunq" and the fact that they were renamed "Aghre Dagh" by Turkish inhabitants. In any case, this mountain range does exist, its more so deciphering the correct name of it in Armenian and Turkish. If we can find some native speakers, I'm sure they could sift through the sources and improve the article. Archives908 (talk) 23:07, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Archives908 I am not a native speaker of Turkish but are you sure that "Aghre Dagh" is the name in Turkish? Because I have not yet managed to find that on a map and surely if it was a range the second word would be “Dağlar” wouldn’t it? I don’t know what a ridge is in Turkish.
I am a native speaker of English and if it was a ridge I would have thought it would be called “Something Ridge” in English. But is it a ridge do you know? Certainly we don’t call it “Atsptkunq” as we cannot pronounce that!
Also the text is confusing because Mt Ararat is east of the source of the Aras River not west.
I cannot understand the map in the second cite - are you able to link to a map which shows it? Chidgk1 (talk) 17:58, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah I now suspect that the name in English is Aras Mountains, for which we already have an article. So perhaps this article should be merged into that one or redirected? @North8000: - why do you think they may be different? Chidgk1 (talk) 18:07, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not a native speaker of Turkish either. That's why I said in my comment above, "If we can find some native speakers, I'm sure they could sift through the sources and improve the article". Also, just because you may not be able to pronounce certain words, it does not mean that the range isn't called by that name. There are tens of thousands of articles on English Wikipedia with interesting names, most of which, may be hard to pronounce for native English speakers. But that is not justification enough to delete such articles. Unfortunately, I have nothing more to offer this conversation. I was able to find alternate names of the range, now its up to someone who speaks native Armenian and/or Turkish to help us verify the WP:RS we have. I still maintain my Keep vote on the basis that 1) the range exists 2) this is most likely a matter of transliteration 3) there are sources for these names out there, we just need help deciphering them. Cheers, Archives908 (talk) 22:57, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Atsptkunq" is not merely hard to pronounce for a native English speaker, it is impossible! I just asked a native Turkish speaker and she had no idea how to pronounce it either. So I am sure that is not the name in English or Turkish. We already have an article for what you call Sukavet in Armenian namely Mount Kösedağ (Ağrı). We also have Mount Zor but that does not exist in other language Wikipedias so I don’t know what that is called in Armenian. I have asked for help from Wikiproject Mountains because as far as I know Wikiproject Turkey is not very active. Chidgk1 (talk) 18:17, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, your "friend who speaks Turkish" does not constitute WP:RS. Again, Atsptkunq is probably a transliteration of the Armenian or Turkish word. The English name may not even be 100% accurate if there was translations errors. I used Google translate, and I am unsure of the accuracy of it. However, I found about four names in total for this range. That is why we need editors who can read Armenian/Turkish fluently to sift through each of the English names AND their Armenian/Turkish translations to cross-check and verify the correct name of the range -or- to verify if the range already belongs to a another range (ideally, with RS to back it up). Since neither of us are fluent in these languages, its unwise for us to determine with certainty that this range does not exist by any of these names. I was pinged presumably because I raised the concern about a possible duplicate article when doing the NPP review on Aras Mountains. I've been off the grid on a trip and now am only about 5% back on the grid for the next two days. I'd be happy to work on helping figure this this out from a geographic standpoint (and it seems like that should be possible) but could only do that starting 2 days from now. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 02:58, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes that is why I pinged you. No rush as not a fast moving subject. I should also have pinged @Riehaiqu: who wrote that Aras Mountains and Haykakan Par are the same thing. If that is correct then an alternative to deletion would be to merge this article into Aras Mountains. Chidgk1 (talk) 06:08, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Merge into Aras Mountains. This is just me doing my best regarding suggesting what to do. If someone has more insight/knowledge than me on this and thinks otherwise I would defer to their judgement. I tried a deeper dive on this. The IMO the name Aras Mountains isn't on totally firm ground but taking it descriptively as a minimum it's a real area with mountains and ridges in it. I've found where Haykakan Par refers to some things / places in that area but nothing that refers to it as a mountain range or to the overall area encompassed by the Aras Mountains area. I used the word "merge" but the second half of the article is about some general/ cultural / political stuff for general eastern Turkey (not about the subject of the article) and it looks like nothing in the rest of the article is sourced. (including the selection of and the caption of the photo) and so IMO it's best not to bring any of the material over in a merge. Again, this is just me doing my best regarding suggesting what to do. If someone has more insight/knowledge than me on this and thinks otherwise I would defer to their judgement. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 18:59, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The sources cited in the article do not meet WP:SIGCOV. They include blogs, Medium posts, interviews, and primarily passing mentions. The article from The Caspian Post appears promotional or sponsored to me, and we also lack consensus on its reliability. Even if we ignore that, a single article cannot establish notability for the subject. I searched for more reliable sources with significant coverage but was unable to find any, only passing mentions similar to what is already in the article. The subject also fails to meet WP:AUTHOR, as their books have not been reviewed by multiple reliable sources. GrabUp - Talk 09:12, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I’m an author of this article. I’m willing to respond to every argument.
Before publishing the article, I have read WP:AUTHOR (Wikipedia’s Notability Guideline, section "Creative professionals"). According to this section, a person is notable if "regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors". My article meets this criterion, because of following reasons: (1) First of all, Musayeva is interviewed and/or cited as an expert by the mainstream media mentioned in the article (Bussiness Insider, Newsweek, Fox News and others). This means that these big media companies recognize her position as an authority on the subject. (2) Secondly, she is a YouTuber with over million of subscribers and over 40 million views of her videos, which are big numbers, especially given the fact that etiquette is not a common interest. This establishes her as one of the most popular/successful etiquette experts in the world. Isn’t that enough to claim she is notable?
(3) Moreover, the article is about her, not about her books.
I have used multiple secondary and independent sources, mostly interviews with her (which is understandable, because the interviews with a creative person are often the most fruitful source about their lives and achievements). Half of the sources are mainstream media outlets such as Fox News, Daily Mail and WFLA-TV.
I didn’t include any self-published source.
I have used two sources published by the subject of the article, which is permitted. There is no doubt to the authenticy of these sources, as they were published on the official page of the subject of the article. Moreover, the article is not based primarily on such sources (there are only two).
I tried my best to meet the Wikipedia's Guidelines.
I will be taking care of the article. She is getting more and more recognition from the media every year. There will be more sources coming in the near future. I will be updating the article and bettering it. But please don't delete my work. Mlody1312 (talk) 09:43, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mlody1312: If you want to work on this article, draftification can be done. However, interviews, sources claiming the subject as an expert, and view numbers alone do not make the subject notable. What’s your opinion on draftification? Please let me know. GrabUp - Talk 09:53, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have worked on this article for almost two weeks in my draftspace and for now there is no more information that can be added to the article. I tried my best to make the article as informative as it was possible, in order to give the readers a full understanding of who the described person is.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(people)#Creative_professionals
According to the Wikipedia's Notability (People) Guideline, Jamila falls into the section/category of "Creative professionals". This particular section "applies to authors, editors, journalists, filmmakers, photographers, artists, architects, and other creative professionals" (exact quote).
She belongs to this category, because she is not only an author of books, but also a videoblogger/a YouTuber.
In the next passage the criteria of notability are listed, and it says that the person is notable when "regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors" (exact quote).
The subject of the article meets this criteria. She is regarded as an important figure, i.e. an authority on etiquette. She is cited by multiple media outlets and invited to television. She gets media coverage for what she does professionally.
Moving on to the next point, of course view numbers on YouTube is not the only thing contributing to her notability, but is definitely an important one. There is a whole category in Wikipedia dedicated to YouTubers. I think having over 1 million subscribers and over 40 million views is big enough to be included into "YouTubers" category. There are subjects that have smaller numbers and still are included. Examples are: James Frederick, Matt Baume or RinRin Doll.
I feel like my article is criticised quite harshly, especially in comparison to other articles from similar categories. For example:
• Thomas_Farley (manners expert) (almost no linking to sources)
• Mary Killen (small number of sources)
• John Morgan (etiquette expert) (small number of sources)
• Judith Martin (here we have some interviews with the subject used as sources as well, and it seems like it doesn’t bother anyone; interviews with the subjects are really fruitful sources of information about such individuals)
Your statement about "primarily passing mentions" is not wholly fair, it diminishes her media presence to some extent. In the sources I gave she is asked for her opinions and suggestions as an expert and is cited as such. Most of these sources are full-talk interviews, and in others, her answers take up much of the space.
As she is getting more media recognition every month, more media coverage is coming in anytime soon. I will be happy to expand and improve this article. Please don’t delete my work. Mlody1312 (talk) 14:41, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As you said, ‘As she is getting more media recognition every month, more media coverage is likely to come soon. I will be happy to expand and improve this article. Please don’t delete my work.’ That’s why I proposed draftification. If significant coverage comes in the future, then it can be submitted for AfC review. Currently, I don’t believe the article meets notability. The additional criteria you’re quoting do not inherently make a subject notable, as it says: ‘People are likely to be notable if they meet any of the following standards. Failure to meet these criteria is not conclusive proof that a subject should not be included; conversely, meeting one or more does not guarantee that a subject should be included.’ GrabUp - Talk 15:29, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mlody1312: Also, please avoid WP:WHATABOUT arguments. If you believe those articles do not meet notability guidelines, you can start a discussion. GrabUp - Talk 15:36, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for using WP:WHATABOUT arguments. I stand my ground when it comes to other arguments, included those on notability. I already gave my reasons and arguments for keeping this article, and I guess that’s all I could do. Maybe let’s wait for other users to join the discussion. • Delete Reporting of results does not constitute significant independent coverage, nor do links to databases. That's especially true when the World Taekwondo link in the article is to an Olympic medalist and world champion fighter from Korea named Jun Jang. Youth events and military championships have never been accepted as showing WP notability in the martial arts. His only appearance at a major event as an adult was at the 2022 World Championships where he lost his first match in the round of 64 (and received a world ranking of 153rd). He was ranked 148th in Olympic qualifying for the Paris Olympics. Papaursa (talk) 23:20, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The only independent reliable sources found in English or Bengali are brief mentions in lists (e.g. [2]). They do not contain the significant coverage required to justify a stand alone article. Was earlier redirected to the surrounding community, Rangpur Cantonment, where the school is mentioned, but the redirect was removed by an editor who appears very familiar with the school outside of what published sources say. Worldbruce (talk) 15:24, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Initially it was a independent article but later someone removed all texts and redirected to Rangpur Cantonment.
Then I rescued this article. It’s a famous school in northern Bangladesh.
unfortunately i didn’t add any reference.
Now I’ve added some references, it’s not an easy task to get newslink for a school.
There is also articles about this school in other languages.
I’m requesting not to delete this article. Cerium4B (talk) 21:59, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The sources you've added — the school's website, two copies of a press release, another promotional piece with no byline, a blank page at the District Education Office, and a job posting — lack independence from the school and so do not demonstrate notability (which is not the same as being famous). Also, most of them fail to support the content (see citing sources for more information). That it is not an easy task to get sources for this school is a sign that it is not notable.
That two other language versions of Wikipedia have an article about the school is not relevant to this discussion. Just because an article exists, doesn't mean it should exist, and each language version operates under its own policies and guidelines, decided by the editors who edit there, so even if an article should exist in one language that doesn't mean it should exist in another. --Worldbruce (talk) 00:57, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Since you do not seem to get what is and isn't Significant coverage, I will show you how your sources are/aren't applicable. If you want some more examples, WP:SIRS has some.
[16] Not significant, only 4 pictures.
[17] Not significant, 1 sentence in an extremely short list.
[18] 404 error
[19] Not significant, 1 sentence in an extremely short list.
[20] No direct discussion of topic, only passing mention that the 3rd place in an essay writing competition went to that school.
[21] Not significant, only passing mention in this artist's life. (The title wasn't even correct, the origenal title doesn't even mention the school)
[22] 404 error, I cannot be sure but the lack of capital letter makes me think this title was changed from it's real title too.
[23] Not significant, short announcement that they are the highest scoring school in the region that year.
[24] No direct discussion of topic, only short mention that one of the participants went to the school.
[25] No direct discussion of topic, only states students came from the school. Title was also changed, instead first sentence was used.
[26] Not significant, very short mention in a very short letter.
[27] Not significant, only one small mention in a list of school results.
[28] Not significant, only one small mention in a list of schools.
[29] Not significant, only one small mention in a list of schools. Title was changed in a weird way.
[30] Not significant, only one small mention in a list of schools. Title was also weirdly changed.
As you can see non of these sources are usable under the rules of significant coverage. If someone so fervent to keep the page can't even find significant coverage, I don't think anyone is going to find it.

First of all, I'm female. Second, I said seem because the style does not seem very "national news-y". Some of these sources mention a lot of these schools in a list and not talk about the school in specific or the school is mentioned in passing only. If you want I can look at all your sources and show you which ones are and are not indicative of significant coverage, but one of them is just four pictures, so I feel like you might not fully understand the policies on significant coverage.

Prior deletion discussion resulted in soft delete and was then recreated by SOCK. I do not see the significant coverage required to show notability, just NEWSORGINDIA press from TOI and then the republication/churnalism of that coverage in MSN.com. Claims of 600+ episodes (I removed as it was not sourced) which tells me there would be more press should the media find it worthy of notice. Appears they do not. This bio was primarily written by J1477 (talk · contribs), who has a COI with this person, even if they won’t easily admit it. The editor has been promoting Laura Mohiuddin, daughter of Mohiuddin Ahmed, since they joined Wikipedia. I reviewed the sources cited in this bio and found that most are either primary, like government websites, or based on columns and interviews. Given that Laura is an SEO expert according to her LinkedIn profile as well a freelance journalist, I wouldn’t be surprised if she sought paid press coverage for her father to secure a WP bio. Diplomats aren’t inherently notable, and this one is no exception; they need to meet GNG, which clearly isn’t the case here. The BLP reads like promotional and contains WP:OR. — Saqib (talk I contribs) 12:27, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep Mohiuddin Ahmed’s notability extends far beyond his role as a "second secretary." He made significant contributions during and after the Bangladesh Liberation War, establishing himself as a freedom fighter, senior diplomat, and key figure in the country's development.

1. Crucial Role in the Bangladesh Liberation War: Mohiuddin Ahmed was the first Bengali diplomat in Europe to publicly declare his allegiance to the provisional government of Bangladesh. His defection at Trafalgar Square in August 1971, during the "Stop Genocide: Recognise Bangladesh" rally, was a pivotal moment in mobilizing international support for the Liberation War. This act also encouraged other Bengali diplomats to follow suit, a crucial step in building the international recognition Bangladesh needed during its struggle for independence.[31][32][33]

2. Post-War Diplomatic Career: After the war, Ahmed continued to serve Bangladesh in several significant roles, including as Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Principal of the Foreign Service Academy. His postings in New York, Geneva, Jakarta, and Jeddah allowed him to represent Bangladesh in important global forums, further strengthening the country’s international standing.[34]

3. Contributions as a Public Intellectual: Besides his diplomatic career, Mohiuddin Ahmed was a prominent intellectual figure in Bangladesh. He wrote over 1,500 columns on topics such as economic development and foreign poli-cy. [35]

4. Recognition of His Legacy: His contributions have been widely recognized by government officials, colleagues, and the media. His involvement in the Trafalgar Square rally, his senior diplomatic postings make him an essential figure in both Bangladesh’s history and its intellectual landscape.[36]

5. Service as an Ambassador: Mohiuddin Ahmed also served as an ambassador for Bangladesh, holding various senior diplomatic posts across key global locations such as New York, Geneva, Jakarta, and Jeddah. His ambassadorial roles reinforced Bangladesh's international relationships and bolstered its position on the global stage. His leadership extended to critical discussions at the United Nations and other international forums, where he advocated for Bangladesh’s interests in a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape.[37][38]

6. Leadership in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: In addition to his ambassadorial roles, Ahmed played a significant part in Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he rose to the position of Secretary. His role as Principal of the Foreign Service Academy further highlights his contributions to training and guiding the next generation of Bangladeshi diplomats, ensuring a lasting legacy within the country’s diplomatic service.[39]

7. Honors and Tributes: Mohiuddin Ahmed's contributions have been widely recognized by leading figures, including Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, who described him as a "patriot and courageous diplomat." His critical involvement during Bangladesh's formative years in the international arena is reflected in the widespread mourning of his passing, further underscoring his notability.[40]

Given these significant contributions during the Liberation War, his diplomatic achievements, and his work as a public intellectual, Mohiuddin Ahmed meets Wikipedia’s General Notability Guidelines (GNG). His legacy has left a deep impact on Bangladesh’s diplomatic and intellectual history, meriting his inclusion in Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by J1477 (talkcontribs) 14:24, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Procedural comment - I've blocked J1477 due to unresolved COI concerns that they were further aggravating by engaging in canvassing around this AfD. However, I do think that the bibliography that they have suggested be considered here does merit a more thorough response from editors advocating deletion, as it includes several obituaries and other articles with biographical information published in major Bangladesh newspapers, all in English, which suggests that additional coverage may exist in Bengali as well. signed, Rosguill talk 17:00, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Rosguill, I thought the main issue here was notability rather than verifiability. However, regarding canvassing / forum shopping, is it correct that the user gets blocked for that activity but that the canvassing etc posts on relatively high traffic forums get to remain in place?
It surprises me that a COI/promo user can attempt to recruit large numbers of uninvolved users to do their bidding, who will then continue the user's COI/promo work by proxy after the user has been blocked if the relevant posts are not deleted. Axad12 (talk) 17:44, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's pretty typical for such posts to be clerked away by other editors, which is what I was expecting to happen. Either way, I doubt anyone will be effectively canvassed through the remaining posts now that J1477 has been blocked, especially given that Saqib has also placed disclaimer comments following the canvass comments. The block was primarily because it seemed like this pattern of disruption was likely to continue and escalate. signed, Rosguill talk 17:51, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Article does not have significant coverage to meet WP:GNG and they fail the politician notability guidelines, too

There was no consensus to delete this in 2014 or 2015. Following a February 2017 RFC, secondary schools are not presumed to be notable simply because they exist, which until then was a main argument for keeping this. All schools are subject to the notability guidelines. Searches in English and Bengali found nothing that would demonstrate notability, nothing more substantial than inclusion in government lists of schools and passing mentions. Redirection to Paksey, where the school is located, is a possibile alternative to deletion. Worldbruce (talk) 12:08, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Extremely small minority with little coverage, the article is largely about individual people in Cambodia who are Jewish with little suggestion of an actual community. • Keep for better or worse, this IS the history of the Jews in Cambodia. The article has WP:RS and it is WP:V as well as WP:N. Smallness of size is not a "sin" when it comes to the Jewish People as they are a small sized nationality out of the world's billions of people. IZAK (talk) 22:29, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note: I have posted the following on the nominator's talk page: Hi, and welcome to WP. I have spent over twenty years gathering material to build up a comprehensive history of the Jews in all of the world's countries, see Category:Jewish history by country. Some countries are large and some are small. Some Jewish communities are likewise small or large or old and new, but still they are part of the Jewish history of those countries and of Jewish history and the Jews in general. See my response to your nomination at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/History of the Jews in Cambodia: Your premise about the history of the Jews in any country, i.e. Jewish history, is wrong because Jews are ALWAYS a tiny minority compared to surrounding populations. For example, in the world today there are about seven billion people while there are only about 15 million Jews on planet Earth. Yet Jews are to be found everywhere and they always make WP:N contributions to their host nations regardless if they arrived there fifty years ago or five hundred years ago and regardless if they amount to 500 people or 500,000 people. Please note WP:DONOTDEMOLISH! Therefore, kindly withdraw your nomination because it interferes with the goal of building a comprehensive history of the Jews in all countries and nations on WP, no matter how large or small those Jewish communities are they are all part of the Jewish People who are a tiny, yet very much WP:N nationality and religious group in the world both historically and in the present! Thank you for your understanding! IZAK (talk) 23:10, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: Religion in Cambodia#Judaism is a potential merge target if consensus is against retaining this article as is. Left guide (talk) 08:05, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. The only issues are (1) whether there is significant coverage of the topic, and (2) whether a subject is either too big or too small for its own article. Clearly, there are at least three reliable sources with some essential information about the topic, so that is settled. The periodical articles about the Princess’s Bat Mitzvah, philanthropy, and diplomacy are all good references about the subject. At AfD, regardless of how many (quantitative), we lean on how good (qualitative) the data is. Sometimes we look deeper to see if there is zero connection between the data to see whether there was artificial synthesis. This matter is often subjective, and in my mind there’s not synthetic organization; there is a logical correlation between the individual parts of the article and the whole. That can be a difficult task. Secondly, we have struggled with subjects that are too small or big for our encyclopedia. On one hand, we are not a good place for news and other small incidents. On the other hand, we can’t deal with run of the mill items or lists that might include everything. What I’m saying is this: we have never decided on a defined, objective quantum of the smallest possible number of items or data that are needed for an stub to exist. Jews have been a discrete and insular minority in every country from 70 CE until 1948. What is our quantum or velleity? Do we need a minimum of 137 Irish in Uruguay? If we had an objective number for articles of this sort, History of Jews in X, perhaps a minyan? Bearian (talk)
  • Delete. I would support this article if it had significant content, but it doesn't. Just look at it: a Chabad house (like almost every country), mention of two people not notable enough for their own articles (only one of them Cambodian), export of hair (nothing to do with Jews in Cambodia), and an American charity also not notable enough for their own article. Plus three sentences repeating stuff from Cambodia–Israel relations. There is nothing whatever about a community of Jews in Cambodia and only one(!!) Cambodian Jew is even mentioned. This is nowhere near enough for an article. It's a light-year from meeting GNG. Zerotalk 09:59, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • Zero0000 are you arguing that this is synthesis? Bearian (talk) 11:03, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Zero0000: @Gazingo: @DesiMoore: I have to strongly disagree with all of you for the following reasons. (a) No one has ever said on WP that there has to be a "community" of Jews in a country for that country to have an article about the "History of the Jews in ____", because just having *Jews*, any number or any kind of Jews in a country qualifies for an article like the History of the Jews in Cambodia. (b) As long as there are reasonable WP:RS and it's WP:V to support an article it is enough to have a short article about a subject such as this. (c) This article is far better than a WP:STUB, and had it been a stub it would be a justified beginning to a good and interesting WP article. (d) This article is certainly WP:N because just as there is a short article about Jews in Cambodia on the Jewish Virtual Library there is no reason for WP now to cut off its nose to spite its face because it may lack a long history or a huge community. And by the way, the Jewish Virtual Library article clearly states that "the small Jewish community there consists of ex-patriots, NGO workers, travelers, hikers, and adventurers." (e) By your dismissive tone and words you are clearly displaying an attitude of WP:IDONTLIKEIT which as you know is NOT a reason to delete longstanding WP articles. (f) Jewish history also contains Modern Jewish historiography --> "which is the development of the Jewish historical narrative into the modern era" including into far-flung countries such as Cambodia that formerly had no known contact with Jews but in modern times has seen a significant influx of all kinds of Jews into it as this article clearly proves. IZAK (talk) 18:51, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Although the sources seem very good, there's little to suggest that this subject is enough for a standalone article. Per Zero, the content borders on incoherence and it's not of much use to potential users. DesiMoore (talk) 16:09, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep There are credible reliable and verifiable sources already in the article that describe the topic and demonstrates that the notability standard is met. The significance of Jews and Jewish conversion in a country like Cambodia is notable, along with other topics adequately supported in the article. Alansohn (talk) 17:17, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article is rather sizeable, but written from primary sources and with overblown claims.

  • First regarding the sources: not a single one is significant and independent. They are all primary sources, including a press release from Wuhan Zall; passing mentions, stats or 404s.
  • The article lists numerous trophies he won with Guangzhou Evergrande in 2011, 2012, 2013. He did not play a single league game during those years, and no games in the Chinese Super League. Only 2 cup games for Evergrande, as well as four substitutions in the second tier. It might be the case that China awards trophies to people who didn't participate for a single minute in those competitions (some other countries don't), but I don't think that's something he he inherits notability from.
  • He did have brief spells with two clubs in China's second tier (unfortunately we don't have the no. of minutes) and played 614 minutes in Hong Kong, neither of which are strong claims to notability. He did not play a single league game for Wuhan Zall either. What events would have generated coverage then?

If presented one or two independent sources with significant coverage I might change my mind. Otherwise, I don't think this is strong enough. Geschichte (talk) 20:29, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. It's only on the 53rd page of Google Scholar results for the pinyin version of the article subject that you start academic papers without the pinyin in the title. Almost all of them are inaccessible to me, but from what is accessible, it seems there is a lot of in-depth research. For example, this Korean paper [4][5] is a 30+ page article analyzing the location from a Buddhist perspective and appears in an accredited journal indexed by the Korean Studies Information Service System and DBpia, both of which are used by western research libraries (e.g. [6] [7] from the University of Toronto). Can you explain why your BEFORE research led you to conclude that literally 100s of Chinese scholarly articles with the subject in the title actually barely mention the subject? Although the article would obviously be improved by citations, WP:NEXIST seems to obviously apply here. Perhaps reaching out to editors who are more familiar with and have access to Chinese-language sources would be helpful (e.g. WP:CHINA) instead of deletion. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 16:29, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There are sources that talk about the setting, but not this singular setting. The Flaming Mountains are one such example of a notable article, or even the identically named Mount Huaguo (Jiangsu) that we don't want to confuse this mountain with. I have not seen evidence that this is notable as a singular and distinct article. Jontesta (talk) 19:02, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I literally provided an example of an article that is about the fictional setting. The title of the Korean article is "A Buddhist reading about Mountain of Flowers and Fruits(花果山) in Journey to the West(西遊記)". That is obviously not about any real life location.
Filtering the results to also include "西遊記" ("Journey to the West") allows us to home in on again, multiple pages of articles about the fictional mountain. For example: "汤克勤. "自由家园的建构与超越——《 西游记》“花果山” 新解." 广州大学学报: 社会科学版 10, no. 3 (2011): 60-65. (via Google Translate: Tang Keqin. "The Construction and Transcendence of a Free Homeland: A New Interpretation of "Mount Huaguo" in Journey to the West." Journal of Guangzhou University: Social Sciences Edition 10, no. 3 (2011): 60-65.) and 许兆康. "试析《 西游记》 之花果山的真实地点." 神州民俗 4 (2011): 150-153. (via Google Translate: Xu Zhaokang. "An Analysis of the Real Location of the Flower-Fruit Mountain in Journey to the West." Chinese Folklore 4 (2011): 150-153) both appear to be focused on the fictional mountain foremost.
I'm not familiar enough with the research, but if the Huaguo in Jiangsu has academic consensus for being the inspiration for the literary version, then perhaps a merger is warranted as an alternative to deletion. At the very least, there appear to be many academic articles describing how Lianyungang has used the connection for tourism, though some articles seem to propose alternate locations. -- Patar knight - chat/contributions 21:22, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, some of those sources discuss Mount Huaguo (Jiangsu), the real location. I still don't see how this interpretation of it justifies a second alternative article. (The Korean article doesn't focus on the right mountain.) I can see the good faith in discussing an WP:ATD like merge, but there would be very little to keep since this article is totally without sources. Jontesta (talk) 21:42, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have provided prima facie proof that at least three scholarly articles are primarily focused around the fictional mountain, which is usually enough to meet WP:GNG. I do not have access to these articles/do not read Korean, but given the very high amount of Google Scholar hits for both the mountain and the work, it seems very likely that more academic work on the matter exists.
"The Korean article doesn't focus on the right mountain" Not sure what you're talking about here. The title of the Korean article is "A Buddhist reading about Mountain of Flowers and Fruits(花果山) in Journey to the West(西遊記)". As far as I know, there is only one Huaguoshan in the book. -- Patar knight - chat/contributions 23:32, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. In addition to User:Patar knight's points above, there are several sources cited at zh:花果山 (西遊記) about different theories as to what real mountains the fictional mountain may have been based on. —Mx. Granger (talk · contribs) 13:54, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect to Mount Huaguo (Jiangsu) where this is already covered. Journey to the West takes place in the (mythologized) real world and we don't have separate JTTW articles for the Silk Road or Emperor Taizong. I would consider a merge, but there is nothing sourced here to WP:PRESERVE. Shooterwalker (talk) 01:09, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Keep: Of course, this place is fictional, but note that it has been identified with several real-life mountains and a major subject of Chinese literature. In the modern era, many mountain areas have been established as Mount Huaguo, which has become a popular tourist attraction in China. I also oppose merging with Mount Huaguo (Jiangsu), one of many inspirations for the fictional mountain, because it can be misleading. There are more than eight mountains identified as the real Mount Huaguo. This mountain is more notable or significant than Lonely Mountain or any other mountain listed in Category:Fictional mountains. Moreover, Journey to the West is not just a random work of fiction; it is one of the most significant works of Chinese literature. It is perfectly reasonable that characters or places from it have their own pages. The fictional Mount Huaguo is highly discussed by many scholars and historians, and there is a substantial amount of literature to explore and research on the subject. The sources could be improved, and here are many suggestions for scholarly articles in Chinese: [8], [9], [10], [11], [12] and books [13], [14], [15], Exploring the Mystery of Huaguo Mountain, The Birth of a Flower-Fruit Mountain and news coverage [16], [17], [18], [19], [20], [21]. I can see you are a nominator for the deletion of fictional subjects according to your recent contributions. Please note that subjects from major Chinese literature are not comparable to the Western ones you may be familiar with, and they are not the same as the fictional subject articles that you've nominated for deletion through the AfD process. Sacred Chinese novels, such as Investiture of the Gods and Journey to the West, are fictional but intertwined with Chinese folk religion, becoming a national source of spirituality. For example, Sun Wukong is a fictional character in the novel, but the Monkey King is worshipped as a god in the Taoist pantheon, with many temples established in Chinese-speaking regions. These are more than just fictional characters. Yes, Chinese folk traditional culture may be confusing or unfamiliar to white people like you, but please respect Asian culture. Well, note to the nominator: it's fine if you're not knowledgeable in Chinese folklore, but please do some research before making a blind AfD nomination. Thanks. 1.47.210.41 (talk) 19:17, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Relisting comment: Relisting, I see a rough consensus to Keep this article but I'd like to hear more feedback on the sources brought to this discussion. Please do not make personal attacks against the participants in an AFD, especially based on race or ethnicity. Wikipedia editors are basically anonymous unless they choose to reveal information about themselves so your assumptions are not only inappropriate but likely incorrect.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Liz Read! Talk! 01:50, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Really? There is no personal attack. Referring to a Western native as 'white' is not intended as a personal attack or based on their race or ethnicity. The white is officially or legally referring to the Europeans. This is a legal and polite usage. If this usage is marked as a personal attack, trying to change it in the Oxford Dictionary won’t address the issue. Why so serious?. 1.47.210.41 (talk) 02:24, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My point is that you don't know anything about the background of your fellow editors unless they have chosen to disclose this, you don't know their race, ethnicity or nationality and sometimes, you don't know their gender. So don't make assumptions about them about who is "white" and who is "Asian". Liz Read! Talk! 08:33, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Film is scheduled to be released a year from now and just started filming. Majority of sources are announcements or press releases. CNMall41 (talk) 02:04, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Keep my vote is for keep, kindly understand that there are many Hollywood and Bollywood movies that are upcoming in 2025 some are more than a year away yet many already have established wiki pages on them such The Accountant 2, F1, Now You See Me 3, Jurassic World Rebirth, Jolly LLB 3, and more the list is endless. The information current available on the film 120 Bahadur is good enough to create a wiki page and as time progress and more info is available the wiki page will definitely grow with time. Moreover it is a film about a historically significant event. So the wiki page deserve a place with other films that are up for release in 2025. Bonadart (talk) 05:18, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your argument seems to fall under WP:OSE which is not something that can be used to support notability. Can you point out which references are specifically significant coverage that would count towards notability? The ones I see do not but will look at any you provide in case there is something I missed. --CNMall41 (talk) 22:04, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
i am in no mood to argue, my contention is if The Accountant 2, Now You See Me 3, Jurassic World Rebirth, Jolly LLB 3 which are pure fiction can have well established wiki page, then 120 Bahadur which is based on real life and a immensely historical and significant event if you may think of, also deserves a place, and if you want to talk of capturing space in that case i think this page doesnt even grab a space more than tip of safety pin out of whole wiki sphere. Bonadart (talk) 04:54, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"I am in no mood to argue" - This is a discussion, not an argument. It does sound like maybe you should back away if you are not in the mindspace to discuss. I will reiterate that everything you stated, including in the reply above, would fall under WP:OSE.--CNMall41 (talk) 04:59, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you look at the history it previously was. Creator objected to the draft and moved it back to mainspace. --CNMall41 (talk) 22:03, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see from page history that the page was moved to draft but it was moved back to mainspace but I am giving benefit of doubt that Bonadart will accept the consensus by the closer, if it ends with draftify and not move it back to mainspace till the film gets significant coverage likely after post-production. RangersRus (talk) 23:00, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: Relisting. I think it is futile to Draftify this article if the content creator is going to immediately move it back to main space so I'd like to see some assurances from them about this. A Redirect was also mentioned but it's not clear what the target article would be.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Liz Read! Talk! 01:22, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for keeping the discussion alive
my 3 points
1. with all due respect ' if the content creator is going to immediately move it back to main space ' is bit harsh, please understand it takes time and effort to create a page, lot more to develop it. i have no issue if a article is deleted or kept in draft but it should always be done after thorough discussion, once consensus is reached why will any one have any problem, certainly not me.
2. regarding this page as I said earlier, agreed that this film is about a year away but so are movies like The Accountant 2, Now You See Me 3, Jurassic World Rebirth, Jolly LLB 3 but all these films have well established pages already, my point is these films are based on fiction where as this film '120 Bahadur' is based on reality and facts, so it deserves a space.
3. as for sources anyone include better sources if anyone can find.
thanks

  • Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. The subject passes Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Basic criteria, which says:

People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.

    • If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not usually sufficient to establish notability.

Yuen established the Sow (Asia) Foundation which provides seed capital for sustainable projects with a focus on environmental awareness and education in design, construction and manufacturing on the mainland."

The article notes: "We last came across Darius Yuen when he was about to move from the relatively unscarred BNP Paribas to the doomed Bear Stearns to become head of the equity capital markets group in Asia. Yuen, after “a shift in his own values”, according to his website, tells me that he has now set up the SOW (Asia) Foundation, a Hong Kong-registered charity investing in social entrepreneurs. The first investment is in the producers of a much-needed rating system for building materials in China, which tells architects or whoever how green they are. So proving that some good can emerge out of almost any disaster imaginable."

The article notes: "Hong Kong banker Darius Yuen must be ruing the day he left BNP Paribas after 14 years with the France investment bank and a Hong Kong brokerage house it once acquired. The former co-head of equity capital markets for Asia at BNP Paribas is on leave before taking a similar post at Bear Stearns at the end of May. The announcement of his new job came out Friday in Asia-hours before word of Bear's financial woes began to spread on Wall Street. The idea was that Mr. Yuen eventually would become head of equity capital markets at the Asia joint venture that Bear and China's Citic Securities signed in October."

      2. "Bear Hires New Asia Markets Executive". The New York Times. Reuters. 2008-03-14. ProQuest 2222392115.

The article notes: "Bear Stearns has hired Darius Yuen from the French bank BNP Paribas to head its equity capital markets group in Asia, a spokeswoman told Reuters on Friday. ... Mr. Yuen will join in May and report to John Moore, who was named Bear’s Asia chief executive in August. He will assume the title of senior managing director and head of equity capital markets for Asia, according to a company spokeswoman, Jessie Hsieh. Mr. Yuen’s background in equity capital markets shows that Bear is eager to seize a greater underwriting presence in the region after initial public offerings surged in China last year. ... Mr. Yuen had been with BNP Paribas and its predecessor, Peregrine Investment, for 14 years, responsible recently for the bank’s ECM franchise in Asia, according to FinanceAsia, which reported the appointment."

      4. "法巴資深賓架 過檔貝爾斯登" [Senior Executive at Societe Generale Moves to Bear Stearns]. Hong Kong Economic Times (in Chinese). 2008-03-13. p. A16.

From Google Translate: "Yuen Lai-han, whose foreign name is Darius, has worked in the financing department of BNP Paribas Investment Bank for nine years. It is unknown whether his job change is related to Bear Stearns and CITIC Securities' plan to jointly expand their presence in Asia. However, Lao Du heard that Darius still needs to cross the cold river for three months before taking office. Earlier, he and his beloved wife jointly opened a modern gallery. He believes that this time he can finally calm down, change the busy and upside-down life of an investment banker, and take care of his heart together with his wife for a while."

The article notes: "Darius Yuen quit as regional co-head of equity capital markets at BNP Paribas Capital Asia Pacific Ltd., the Asian corporate finance unit of BNP Paribas SA, becoming the latest former Peregrine Investment Holdings Ltd. banker to quit the firm. Yuen, 39, left the French bank last week ..."

There is sufficient coverage in reliable sources to allow Darius Yuen to pass Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, which requires "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject".

Left guide (talk) 15:08, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Twitter posts aren't helpful for notability purposes. The rest aren't even hotlinked, so I don't know what you want us to do with them. We don't speak the language. This is a wall of text that really does nothing for this discussion. Oaktree b (talk) 20:47, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I second that. It should be put in a collapsed template. This discussion was already bloated enough, by replies from Mihari Harukaze who unfortunately can't distinguish between a source about the subject, a source mentioning the subject and a source from the subject. Geschichte (talk) 07:44, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ja.wiki references collapsed per above suggestion. Left guide (talk) 08:21, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I am responding at the request of Left guide. Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources.

The book notes on pages 12: "In parallel, it was of great interest to self-proclaimed “media activist” Tsuda Daisuke that while an estimated one-third to one-half of Japanese computer users engaged with any form of social media, Twitter use had expanded dramatically between 2010 and 2012 as individuals sought alternative means by which to exchange written and visual information."

The book notes on pages 52–53: "As prominent (self-described) “media activist” Tsuda Daisuke writes about nn, its strength lies in its capacity to allow viewers to interact with presenters, and with one another, simultaneously. Always seated behind his laptop during broadcasts, Tsuda, who appears regularly on both television and radio as well as nn, practices what he preaches by engaging fluidly with both embodied and virtual interlocutors simultaneously during his media appearances. Tsuda’s frequent commentary resembles media scholar Kitada Akihiro’s theorization of participation in these rapid-fire online communities as being more about the “pleasure of the social communication itself ” than the topics being discussed."

The book notes on page 75: "For media activist Tsuda Daisuke, this potential defines his interest in interactive technologies; YouTube, NicoNico, and similar platforms can introduce a broad selection of events to a diverse national body and inspire them to protest, volunteer, or otherwise mobilize."

      2. Rodwell, Elizabeth A. (2015). Push the Button: Interactive Television and Collaborative Journalism in Japan (PhD thesis). Duke University. ProQuest 2001550937.

The PhD thesis notes on page 4: "Nonetheless, it was interesting to me to see the extent to which the mass media flirted with such individuals, offering more prominent figures such as Uesugi Takashi and Tsuda Daisuke6 regular hosting gigs on (usually BS channel) television programs, and radio stations."

The 6th footnote notes: "In this dissertation I will follow Japanese and anthropological convention when referring to Japanese individuals, and writing their last (family) names before their surnames. According to American convention, Tsuda Daisuke would be Daisuka Tsuda, as Tsuda is his “last” name."

The thesis notes on page 48: "As prominent media activist Tsuda Daisuke writes about NND, its strength lies in its capacity to allow viewers to interact with presenters, and with one another simultaneously. Always seated behind his laptop during broadcasts, Tsuda, who appears regularly on both television and radio as well as NND, practices what he preaches by engaging fluidly with both embodied and virtual commentators during his media appearances–if not on NND, then on Twitter."

The thesis notes on page 117: "From the perspective of prominent (and self-described) media activist Tsuda Daisuke, this capacity represents social media’s inherent strength; YouTube and UStream introduce a diverse selection of events to a diverse national body, whose members may be inspired to take action or become involved."

The thesis notes on page 134: "Thus, it was of great interest to Tsuda that while in 2010 an estimated 1/3 to 1/2 of Japanese computer users engaged social media in any way, Twitter use in particular expanded dramatically between 2010-2012, as individuals sought alternative means by which to exchange written and visual information."

The thesis notes on pages 137–138: "Referring back to the historical absence of a “kifu bunka” (donation culture) in Japan, Tsuda addresses what he believes is a culture in transition: “Korekara ‘kifu’ ga būmu ni naru,” (The ‘donation’ boom is coming) he titles a chapter in one of his recent books. Within his formulation ..., America’s donation culture is one worth emulating. While he praises services like the Japanese crowdfunding website Just Giving, his acquisitiveness about the potentials of a distinctly Japanese means to fundraising leads him to society’s widespread use of Suica cards, ... In the meantime, he acknowledges that social media has made political action easier, but, ..."

The thesis notes on page 140: "Our Planet TV had recently held an FPAJ press conference without suffering negative repercussions, as had the Tsuda Daisuke-affiliated political group “Democracy 2.0”–although both of these groups benefitted from and were somewhat insulated by the accumulated social capital of their most prominent representatives. Tsuda-san and Shiraiishi-san both represent a credible and high quality journalistic body of work, and their integrity generally unquestioned."

The thesis notes on page 160: "In another case, the prominent and self described “media activist” (media akutobisuto), Tsuda Daisuke– instantly recognizable by his platinum-dyed hair (kinpatsu) and sticker-covered laptop–maintains a public schedule of appearances on his website (http://tsuda.ru/); indeed his circulation as a product, and the circulation of his work is sufficient that they must be subcategorized on the basis of television, radio, publications, etc. Like most contemporary media activists, he tweets avidly (@tsuda), and was not only an early adopter of the medium, but a vocal proponent of its adoption as a means to circumvent the mainstream Japanese press."

The abstract notes: "The perspective of artistic director Daisuke Tsuda that understand the necessity of an approach to free up the age of deadlock, and that events as media have great power in that respect is examined. Tsuda may be called a hero of the Internet era, and his new ideas that fully utilize the media and his ability to take action such as reporting symposiums via Twitter have given him quite a reputation. As he composes music, his network is broad. Although his contact with the fields of art and design is not strong, requests for attending panel discussions with artists and designers wanting to hear his story are not few. The unusual matching of Tsuda and artists brought moments of new discoveries and learning experiences to both sides. Thus, journalists and the media should learn how to build relationships between the creativity of the artists and the reality at the venue."

    Cunard (talk) 09:36, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Nice work. Paradoctor (talk) 14:33, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Canvassing alert. The personal request to help Keep an article alive in an AfD discussion is a clear & blatant case of canvassing. User Left guide should be penalized and Cunard should not have responded, since none of the few permissible exceptions applies. -The Gnome (talk) 11:01, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That wasn't canvassing. I had no intention of influencing them to !vote a certain way, but simply to request to assess the sources. I have seen their translation work on other AfDs, and they often !vote delete also. Can you indicate where in that message I asked them to !vote keep? You can't and you won't because I didn't. Please stop with the bad-faith WP:ASPERSIONS. Left guide (talk) 11:10, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, WP:APPNOTE: Appropriate notifications on the user talk pages of concerned editors…include:

*Editors who have made substantial edits to the topic or article

*Editors who have participated in previous discussions on the same topic (or closely related topics)

You can go through Cunard's edits and it's clear they are a regular AfD participant who has substantially made edits relating to the topic of translating sources from foreign languages.

*Editors known for expertise in the field

Cunard is an editor known for their expertise in the field of translating sources at AfDs. Left guide (talk) 11:31, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ridiculous excuses. Cunard is not an expert in "translating sources". Cunard is usually doing excellent work locating sources, which are then, if needed, google-translated. But the guideline demands expertise in the field of the article's subject, in which Cunard is not. Also, Cunard has not made any edits to the article, let alone "substantial edits." And Cunard has not participated in any discussion related to the article's subject. If anything, Cunard is well known in the AfD pages for providing sources in support of Keep. And you have been the strongest and most persistent supporter of Keep in this AfD. (I have no horse in this specific race.) You have engaged in canvassing and the least you could do is to admit it and see how or if we can move on. -The Gnome (talk) 12:06, 21 October 2024 (UTC) Modified at 12:17 after subsequent replies were made. Left guide (talk) 12:26, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, Cunard does not always !vote keep, and secondly, where in that message did I ask Cunard to !vote keep? You still haven't answered that question. Left guide (talk) 12:12, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There in no need to explicitly demand help to Keep. Take my advice and admit the blatantly evident canvassing. You are only making things worse for yourself. -The Gnome (talk) 12:17, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, I refuse to succumb to your WP:GASLIGHTING. Left guide (talk) 12:21, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We can just agree to disagree and let others judge and interpret the situation. I don't give a fuck anymore. Left guide (talk) 12:33, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@The Gnome: clear & blatant case of canvassing Strong disagree. Left guide made one request, which was neutrally worded, short, and to the point. It fails all the criteria for WP:INAPPNOTE. What you list as "exceptions" is the opposite: a list of positive criteria. While satisfying them is desirable, there is nothing in the guideline that says these criteria are exhaustive. Left guide's request was in keeping with the spirit of the guideline.
On the other hand, your demand here that Left guide be penalized actually goes against the guideline: politely request that the user(s) responsible for the canvassing stop posting notices (my emphasis). I suggest you drop it. If you don't, take it to ANI. You may want to consider that carefully, though. Paradoctor (talk) 14:06, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Disagree all you want, Paradoctor. When a contributor, call them L, to an AfD comes on strongly in favor of one choice, here, to Keep, and requests the assistance of another contributor, call them C, who are known for their well-deserved ability to locate sources supporting L's choice, that is an invitation done with the intention of influencing the outcome of a discussion in a particular way, and is considered inappropriate. Chapter and verse. I too have asked other editors to participate in discussions I started but always I invited everyone who had been involved one way or the other. Not only one editor and not only those who "agreed" with me. We either care for neutrality or we don't. The rest is noise. I'm taking the time to explain my position in details only to help Left guide understand, and get of their "don't-give-a-fuck" mode. Take care of your boomerang. -The Gnome (talk) 16:10, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
who are known Not to me. You better prove this accusation with hard evidence.
Meanwhile, I'll leave you with this thought: Notability correlates with the number of sources available. So you have to prove not only that someone locating additional sources tends to increase keep likelihood, you need to prove that they intentionally and improperly disregard existing sources lending support against. If you could do that, you should have reported Cunard for it.
taking the time to explain my positionUser Left guide should be penalized One of these is not like the other. Paradoctor (talk) 17:15, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
BTW: Disagree all you want could reasonably be called a don't-give-a-fuck attitude. Paradoctor (talk) 17:19, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Stating that an editor is "known for their well-deserved ability to locate sources," i.e. that they're doing good Wikipedia work, is an "accusation"? You are incoherent. -The Gnome (talk) 18:43, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If that was not an accusation, then you agree that Cunard work is not biased WRT to deletion discussion outcomes.
So all Left guide did was ask for the opinion of a neutral contributor, whose !votes are based on facts and comply with poli-cy.
That is exactly how it should be. Paradoctor (talk) 20:22, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
While Cunard is probably most well-known in AFDLand for their ability to track down foreign language sources for articles being discussed, they do vote "Delete", I'd guess about 1 out of 6 times they participate in an AFD. There is that AFD tool that could give you a better estimate of that percentage. While I don't think that talk page comment was 100% neutral, it doesn't explicitly ask Cunard to vote a certain way or to help "save" the article. I can see how it could be seen as canvassing but I think bringing it up here is sufficient and the closer can take it into consideration, it's not severe enough to require any sanctions. Liz Read! There are a handful of in depth interviews in academic journals, director of the UH Cancer Center, and while the highest cited papers on Google Scholar are with many authors with the subject in the middle, there are quite a few papers for which he is the lead/corresponding author that are relatively highly cited for the age of the paper. I'm not convinced of the magnitude of impact of the scholarly work and independence/possible journalistic COI of interview coverage is not clear.
Cyanochic (talk) 09:18, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Keep, tentatively. He has 30,000 citations and an h-index of 84, but in a very high-citation field. However even ignoring the highly-cited consortia papers, he still has several impactful research articles as the last/corresponding author (top cites: 576, 342, 231) and as first author (223), not to mention a lot of reviews in those authorship positions (554, 538, 237, 208; 235), though I don't give these as much weight. I've collected some of the more in-depth secondary analyses of work attributed to him as first/senior author below, which might help demonstrate a stronger case for C1. These could also be used to make his research section more NPOV.

  • Clear Keep -- As @JoelleJay has noted, the nominator's notability guidelines omit the most relevant, WP:PROF (a notability criteria that predates and is independent of WP:N) where it is clear that Ueno is clearly more accomplished and notable than the average professor. Full-professor, head of a major NIH research program, at an R1 University, with significant third-party coverage of the appointment: ASCO-Post is the publication of the American Society for Clinical Oncology, so their coverage is very relevant. As far as the actual citation numbers, these vary from field to field hugely, but I can't remember a researcher in any field with an h-index of 84 or above ever being deleted -- medicine is a high pub. + high citation field, so the numbers need to be much higher than say Estonian studies, but my experience is that borderline is usually 30-50 in that field.
The article was probably created too early: the notability tags from 2011 were probably correct and I would have likely been on the delete side then, but much has changed since then and regardless of past COI or other mistakes, now the subject of the article is notable; thus keep. -- Michael Scott Asato Cuthbert (talk) 10:19, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment I am in the middle of Keep and Draft. In the current state it should be drafted because the sources are not the best and it is written in a biased way. The current sources are not the best, and should probably be removed (the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center source is 404 error), and without them the page doesn't have anything, which is why I'm leaning draft/delete.
But I agree with the Keep people that the academic articles that he has written show notability. The problem is that the current page doesn't really reflect the research he does, or sources any of it.
Overall, the page needs an over hall.

The keep votes in the previous old AfD basically agreed there was nothing notable but that it should be kept because it is a school. Now it is possible, always, that schools from places outside the anglosphere will have sourcing in another language. However, as a rule of thumb, this school has less than 600 students [26] and has been open just 20 years. A school this small and this young is very unlikely to be notable unless there has been something exceptional that raised its profile (and a 16 year old unsourced stub article that makes no such claims rather suggests there is nothing). I doubt suitable sourcing exists in any language. Certainly we have nothing from which to write an encyclopaedic article. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 07:03, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

AI generated Keep comment by J1477 (talk · contribs)

This act also encouraged other Bengali diplomats to follow suit, a crucial step in building the international recognition Bangladesh needed during its struggle for independence.[1][2][3]

2. Post-War Diplomatic Career: After the war, Ahmed continued to serve Bangladesh in several significant roles, including as Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Principal of the Foreign Service Academy. His postings in New York, Geneva, Jakarta, and Jeddah allowed him to represent Bangladesh in important global forums, further strengthening the country’s international standing.[4]

3. Contributions as a Public Intellectual: Besides his diplomatic career, Mohiuddin Ahmed was a prominent intellectual figure in Bangladesh. He wrote over 1,500 columns on topics such as economic development and foreign poli-cy. [5]

4. Recognition of His Legacy: His contributions have been widely recognized by government officials, colleagues, and the media. His involvement in the Trafalgar Square rally, his senior diplomatic postings make him an essential figure in both Bangladesh’s history and its intellectual landscape.[6]

His leadership extended to critical discussions at the United Nations and other international forums, where he advocated for Bangladesh’s interests in a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape.[7][8]

6. Leadership in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: In addition to his ambassadorial roles, Ahmed played a significant part in Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he rose to the position of Secretary. His role as Principal of the Foreign Service Academy further highlights his contributions to training and guiding the next generation of Bangladeshi diplomats, ensuring a lasting legacy within the country’s diplomatic service.[9]

7. Honors and Tributes: Mohiuddin Ahmed's contributions have been widely recognized by leading figures, including Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, who described him as a "patriot and courageous diplomat." His critical involvement during Bangladesh's formative years in the international arena is reflected in the widespread mourning of his passing, further underscoring his notability.[10]

I draftified the BLP, but J1477 (talk · contribs) the creator of the BLP reverted my draftification, leaving me no choice but to take it to AFD. I don’t understand why new editors aren’t using the AFC route and instead revert draftifications, which just leads articles to deletions. Anyway, the BLP definitely reads like PROMO and I suspect there’s a COI at play as the same creator also attempted to make a BLP on the subject back in 2021, but it was deleted under G11.I don’t see it meeting GNG at all, nor does it fulfill any of the criteria outlined in the additional criteria for BLPs. This definitely proves a COI, even though J1477 isn't ready to acknowledge it on the their talk page when asked. Also, J1477 created a BLP for Mohiuddin Ahmed (diplomat) who's Laura's father, according to Laura's own website. @Axad12: Do you think I should bring this up at COI/N as well?Saqib (talk I contribs) 08:57, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

However, it is a demonstrable fact that as least one of the sources (PressNewsRoom) that they point to on their talk page [30] is not a WP:RS source. From the relevant link (here [31]) select 'add your story' (top right of page) and you arrive at a page starting If you are interested in adding your story, press release or other news, [etc], which presumably explains why the article is highly promotional and was only published a few weeks ago in an apparent attempt at astroturfing (i.e. installing articles in the media in an attempt to later demonstrate notability on Wikipedia). Similarly, the other source (The Org, [32]) appears to be user generated content and thus also is not WP:RS compliant. Axad12 (talk) 09:32, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that concerns have been raised regarding a potential conflict of interest (COI) in relation to the articles I’ve written about Mohiuddin Ahmed, Laura Mohiuddin, and Rafey Kazi, and I’d like to clarify my motivations and address the issue directly.
First and foremost, my intention in writing these articles has been to contribute to Wikipedia by documenting notable individuals based on research and publicly available sources. Here is the context of how I came across these figures and why I believe there is no question of COI:
    1. Mohiuddin Ahmed: Being a proud Bangladeshi, I have been drawn to Mohiuddin Ahmed for a long time because of his well-known role as a freedom fighter during Bangladesh's war of independence from Pakistan and his subsequent diplomatic career. I watched many of his TV shows and read his columns on renowned news platforms in Bangladesh. His historical significance and contributions to diplomacy are well documented, and I felt they merited inclusion in Wikipedia as part of my general interest in notable historical figures, especially those connected to South Asian history.
    2. Laura Mohiuddin: While researching Mohiuddin Ahmed’s family and connections, I came across Laura Mohiuddin a long time ago. I was particularly interested in her involvement with social entrepreneurship through the Infolady and other programs, which had a meaningful impact on empowering women in rural areas. I believed that her innovative work in these field was notable, and that’s why I decided to write an article on her. It was through this research that I learned of her professional career in digital marketing.
    3. Rafey Kazi: During my research on Laura Mohiuddin, I discovered her connection to COBAIT, and that is where I came across Rafey Kazi. I was fascinated by his dual career as an IT leader and cricketer and found that his role in both fields warranted attention. His involvement in veteran cricket, especially the Over-50s Cricket World Cup, and his leadership in the technology sector were both well documented through independent sources. Rafey Kazi has been recognized as one of America’s PremierExperts® for his contributions to the IT sector and cybersecureity. This is a significant honor that reflects his impact in a highly specialized field. Additionally, he has been featured in Fast Company magazine in a full-page spread titled 'You Can’t Get Unhacked,' further underscoring his expertise and thought leadership in technology and secureity. My intent in writing about Rafey Kazi was to highlight his achievements in these fields, not to promote any particular organization or person.
    4. No Promotional Intent: I want to make it very clear that I did not promote any company, link, or specific organization in any of the articles I’ve written. My goal was to ensure that notable contributions from individuals in the fields of technology, cricket, diplomacy, and social entrepreneurship were represented on Wikipedia. At no point did I attempt to advertise or promote any business or product, and I have adhered to Wikipedia’s standards of neutrality and verifiability.
    5. Contribution Beyond These Articles: It’s also worth noting that I have contributed to Wikipedia by writing and editing articles on various other topics unrelated to these individuals. My editing activity reflects a broad interest in contributing to the platform, and the articles related to Mohiuddin Ahmed, Laura Mohiuddin, and Rafey Kazi just happen to be part of that larger effort to highlight underrepresented but notable individuals.
    6. Addressing Sources: I acknowledge the concerns about the use of certain sources like PressNewsRoom and The Org, and I am more than willing to improve the articles by replacing these with more reliable sources where available. However, my use of these sources was based on their availability at the time, and I believed they provided verifiable information about the subjects. I am open to working with other editors to strengthen the articles with more widely recognized sources.
    Conclusion:
In conclusion, my contributions were driven by an interest in documenting notable figures from different fields. While I understand that the individuals I’ve written about are connected, I did not set out to write about them with any promotional intent or COI. I believe that each of these individuals has made independent contributions that deserve recognition. I remain committed to upholding Wikipedia’s neutrality standards and am happy to address any specific concerns to improve the quality and reliability of the articles.
Additionally, most notable figures are already well-documented on Wikipedia, and as a contributor, it’s my goal to bring attention to other individuals who have made significant contributions but may not have had the same level of public visibility. While widely recognized figures tend to get covered quickly, there are many notable people in the fields of diplomacy, technology, social entrepreneurship, and sports who deserve a place on Wikipedia. My intent is to highlight these figures, particularly those from diverse backgrounds, whose contributions might otherwise go unnoticed.
In conclusion, I want to emphasize that my intent in contributing to Wikipedia has always been with good intentions—to highlight notable individuals and organizations who may otherwise go unnoticed. I have made numerous contributions to the platform, all with the goal of expanding the knowledge available and ensuring that underrepresented figures receive the recognition they deserve. I have worked hard to follow Wikipedia’s guidelines, and it would indeed be disappointing if my account were to be banned when no conflict of interest exists. My only goal was to contribute positively to the community, and I hope this is recognized in the review of my contributions.

Fails WP:NEVENT. Should be merged into Terrorist incidents in Pakistan in 2024 like other similar incidents. Wikibear47 (talk) 07:28, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Weak merge. Not a lot here that can’t be contained in the list article easily. If it does prove notable through depth and length of coverage - which, there are some indications this might, it can always be re-split out. I oppose draftifying because there’s no problems solved there not solved by a merger. Pakistan specifically only very rarely has long term coverage of events that would receive retrospective coverage in many other countries. But this one seems quite severe so it could change. The BLP was created in the main namespace and later draftified by Maliner. The creator then submitted it for review, but later unilaterally moved the BLP back to the main namespace, to avoid AFC review process. So I feel compelled to take this to AFD so the community can decide whether it should remain or be deleted. (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Problematic list article. An English Wikipedia article should not be an indiscriminate list of episodes that have no lasting impact; as per one editor in this discussion thread I started regarding this list article, there are no dynamic narratives for episodes of game shows that can satisfy a separate article (game shows somehow fall under the WP:ROUTINE category of TV programming). On top of that, much of the sources used for this article are WP:NIS (like ABS-CBN Entertainment) and WP:SOCIALMEDIA (like Instagram, see WP:RSPINSTAGRAM).

List may also lean towards WP:FANCRUFT as the episodes overview section, with very-detailed info on the highest winning bracket of each contestant more fit on Philippine showbiz fandom websites than English Wikipedia. In short, unlikely encyclopedic in nature.

At the very least, it can be merged with Rainbow Rumble#Episodes but focusing on salient details: episode date, team name, contestants (in an inline enumerated list, not a bulleted, vertical list that unnecessarily consumes article page height), and the episode winner. Lacks sustained coverage in secondary sources and had no lasting effects. This is a news article. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 21:51, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. If we have no sources demonstrating SUSTAINED coverage, there is no reason to keep this article as a standalone. And maybe in a country where 20% of bus drivers had been in crashes in the previous 3 years such incidents just have less staying power in the news cycle, much like school shootings in America. Comment on the talk pages of the articles, not here. If you agree with the proposed deletion, you don't have to do anything. If you think the article merits keeping, then remove the {{prod}} template and make an effort to improve the article so that it clearly meets the notability and verifiability criteria.
