Publication History

The U.S. Weather Bureau (beginning in the 1930s) and the National Weather Service (beginning on Oct. 1, 1970) published a number of documents concerning hurricanes, including preliminary reports, advisories, bulletins, and post-hurricane service assessments.

Scope of Coverage

The NOAA Central Library has an incomplete collection of these documents. Included in the collection are un-named hurricanes from 1938 and 1947, before the hurricanes began to be named in 1950. The first named hurricane in this collection is Hurricane Edna from 1954 and the last one is Hurricane Katrina from 2005.
