UPDATED:

A 15-year-old boy was arrested Friday for the fatal shooting of a man outside of the man’s northeast Aurora home, police officials said.

The man saw a “suspicious” red sedan after walking outside of his home in the 20000 block of East 62nd Drive just before 7 p.m. Thursday, according to the Aurora Police Department. A person in the car shot him, and the man was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Officers on Friday stopped the vehicle involved in the shooting and arrested the boy, whom police said they would not identify because of his age. The boy had an outstanding warrant and was booked into jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.

“While the suspect and victim did not personally know each other, it is believed that the suspect knew the victim’s family,” police said in a news release.

The man will be identified by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.

Anyone with information about the case can contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
