Kharagpur College, established in 1949,[1] is one of the Heritage Colleges in Paschim Medinipur. It offers Undergraduate & Postgraduate courses in Arts, Commerce and Science. It is affiliated to Vidyasagar University.[2] Popularly known as Inda College. This college has been re-accredited by NAAC Peer Team in the year 2016 and was awarded B++ in the second cycle of accreditation.
History
[edit]Kharagpur College was established on 29 August 1949 in the premises of the Silver Jubilee School at Kharagpur, Puratan Bazar. Saleha Khatoon, wife of late Nasir Ali Khan of Panchberia, Kharagpur, donated the land for college construction and the construction was started under the dispersal scheme of the state government on 2 July 1951. The college later shifted its operation at the present permanent site at Inda, Kharagpur.[3]
Departments and Courses
[edit]The college offers different undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the science, arts, and commerce branch. This college aims at imparting education to the undergraduates of lower- and middle-class people of Kharagpur, and its adjoining areas.
Science
[edit]The science faculty consists of the departments of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science and Application, Botany, Zoology, and Economics.
Arts and Commerce
[edit]The arts and commerce faculty consists of the departments of Bengali, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, History, Political Science, Philosophy, Geography, and Commerce (Accounting and Finance).
Accreditation
[edit]Kharagpur College has been awarded a B++ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).[4] The college is also recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).[1]
Admission
[edit]Admission to the first-year undergraduate classes are usually held after the publication of the result of the Higher Secondary Examination under the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education and is based strictly on merit through open counseling procedure.
Admission in the college can be get through West Bengal Centralised Admission Portal Portal June/July every year.[5]
