- في أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية قررت الحكومة البريطانية فرض إجلاء جماعي على السكان المدنيين الذين كانوا في مستعمرة جبل طارق الملكية، لزيادة حصانة صخرة جبل طارق، بتعزيزها بمزيد من جنود القوات البريطانية المسلحة، وهذا اضطر أغلب سكان جبل طارق إلى النزوح عن دارهم (بعضهم نزح مدة وصلت إلى 10 سنين)، وفقدان ما يمكن أن يعدوه دارًا لهم. لم يُسمح لأي مدني بالبقاء، إلا أولئك الذين كانوا يشتغلون بالوظائف الأساسية الضرورية. لكن على الرغم من ذلك تولد في المجتمع كله من جراء ذلك الموقف شعور متزايد «بالانتماء البريطاني»، من خلال المشاركة في جهود الحرب. - The British Government's decision to enforce a mass evacuation of the civilian population during the Second World War from the Crown colony of Gibraltar, in order to increase the strength of The Rock with more British Armed Forces personnel, meant that most Gibraltarians (some for up to ten years) were forced to be away from Gibraltar and did not have a place they considered to be home. Only those civilians with essential jobs were allowed to stay. However, this event gave the entire community a heightened sense of "Britishness" by sharing in the war effort. (en)
- L'évacuation de la population civile de Gibraltar pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale fut un événement qui changea radicalement la vie des habitants de Gibraltar. La décision du gouvernement britannique d'évacuer massivement la colonie de la Couronne de Gibraltar fut prise afin d'augmenter la résistance du Rocher en disposant de personnel militaire. Cela impliquait que la plupart des habitants de Gibraltar (certains pour une période qui allait durer jusqu'à dix ans) n’eurent plus de « chez eux ». Seuls les civils ayant des furent autorisés à rester, mais cela donna à toute la communauté le sentiment d'être « britannique » en partageant l'effort de guerre. (fr)
