El tomo anterior, Sandman: Estación de nieblas, llega hasta el número 28, por lo que los tres números intermedios, del 29 al 31, aparecen en el tomo siguiente a este, Sandman: Fábulas y reflejos. La razón de esta alteración en el orden se debe a que los números del tomo siguiente son todas historias autoconclusivas, mientras que los números de este tomo y el anterior siguen una historia completa a lo largo de todo el volumen. Esta obra está dibujada por Shawn McManus, Colleen Doran y Bryan Talbot, con entintado de Shawn McManus, George Pratt, Dick Giordano y Stan Woch. A cargo del color estuvo Daniel Vozzo. Ce cinquième opus présente une seule histoire indépendante qui se divise en plusieurs chapitres nominatifs. L'histoire à travers ses protagonistes présente une continuité entre le tome 2 La Maison de poupée et le tome 9 Les Bienveillantes. Neil Gaiman a affirmé que Jouons à être toi était son album préféré, puisque « c'est l'album que la plupart des gens aiment le moins, et ça me fait l'aimer encore plus. » Les titres des histoires sont semblables aux titres ou extraits de plusieurs chansons populaires anglophones : Lullaby of Broadway (Berceuses de Broadway) est une chanson populaire d'Harry Warren et Al Dubin créée en 1935, Bad Moon Rising (Lune de sang) est une chanson du groupe Creedence Clearwater Revival sortie en 1969 et Over the Sea to Skye (Côté mer, côté ciel) est un extrait du , une chanson traditionnelle écossaise. Quant à Beginning to See the Light (Vers le bout du tunnel), c'est un titre figurant sur le premier album du Velvet Underground sorti en 1969. I Woke Up and One of Us was Crying (À mon réveil, l'un de nous pleurait) est une ligne d'I Want You, sur l'album Blood and Chocolate d'Elvis Costello paru en 1986. (fr)
- A Game of You (1993) is the fifth collection of issues in the DC Comics series, The Sandman. Written by Neil Gaiman, illustrated by Shawn McManus, Colleen Doran, Bryan Talbot, George Pratt, Stan Woch and Dick Giordano, and lettered by Todd Klein. The volume's introduction was written by Samuel R. Delany. It collects issues #32-37. The issues in the collection first appeared in 1991 and 1992. The collection first appeared in paperback and hardback in 1993. Barbie, a minor character from The Doll's House, has recently divorced and is trying to rediscover her own identity. At the same time, Barbie's rich but childish fantasy world is threatened by a malevolent creature called the Cuckoo. Her hard-pressed imaginary friends reach out into the real world for help, resulting in blood and death in both worlds. Gaiman often characterizes Sandman stories as "male" or "female"; A Game of You, dominated by female characters and points of view, is one of his female stories. Gaiman described A Game of You as "probably" his favorite volume in the series, "because it's most people's least favourite volume, and I love it all the more for that." This fifth collection continues the story of some of the characters of the second, The Doll's House, and is closely linked with the ninth, The Kindly Ones. Each of the issues in the collection takes its name from a song, including Lullaby of Broadway (represented as "Lullabies of Broadway"), Bad Moon Rising, taken from the Creedence Clearwater Revival song, "Beginning to See the Light", a Velvet Underground song, "Over the Sea to Sky," from a Scottish folk song, and "I Woke Up and One of Us Was Crying" from Elvis Costello's "I Want You."
