Schitt$ Creek (2015)
Fun to watch!
This series is a must-watch! It's so good. I love the town and the people soo much. This town is soaked in the feeling of togetherness, love, harmony, and what not. The natives of the town are funny and mind their own businesses. They get a peek of the outside world through the Rose family. The Rose family subtly realises the important things that they had been ignoring in their previous lavish life, and this town acts as a metaphor. A town that is inhabited by genuine people is the most happy. The people in the town are weird because they are real and genuine. The Rose family realises that they have been fake with each other when they arrive at the town and it's here where they accept each other's broken selves.
The Affair (2014)
A heart-warming tale
It's such a beautiful and heart-warming tale of betrayal, love, loss, tragedy. This show basically depicts how an act of betrayal affects all the generations, starting from grandparents till grandchildren.
It's a very mature take on adultery. The complexities involved within adultery with the incorporation of ensemble cast (most important factor) presents a great story. It's also important for the viewers to have patience as one goes on with the narrative because it gets really messed up and chaotic. Indeed, this is supposed to happen considering the delicate situation and therefore, it's important to understand every character's flaws, history, maturity thoroughly.
Fleabag (2016)
Freaking funny!
This series so funny! It's like Fleabag has all your emotions in control. You can't disobey her. You have to feel what she wants you to feel. At some times, it feels as if Fleabag is going through existential crisis because she has no one to whom she can speak freely other than the audience. And you might end up feeling a bit sad at times (of course, as it's a tragic comedy) because you don't get the answer to her broken life until the end of season 1.
But beware of her because she presents you with quick character brief of the characters even before you know them. Obviously, you would know that Fleabag is right about them eventually, but don't let it hinder your watch and understanding of the plot.
Joker (2019)
Must-Watch!
Is it too much to ask for respect? After watching the movie, I felt the primary question was this being posed by the movie. The society represented is basically a 'dead society' (at least for me it was), wherein people barely have the time to spare to help an individual whose only source of income is slipping away. It's a world where the roots of such comedy reality shows are being ignored. I felt as if the movie was also trying to make a point on how people rarely spend time on introspection that is much needed now a days.
The movie's cinematography and the content were hand in hand. Imbued with violence and gloominess, the narrative speaks a lot to the viewers.
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
A wonderful movie!
After watching this movie, I felt as if children are rarely given the time to see the beauty of the world. They are given very less time to use what truly belongs to them. In this movie too, the children are brainwashed regarding the Jewish people. The conversations among the children brings out their inquisitive nature that is usually oppressed by their trainors. And, one can't blame the child here for hating the Jewish because from a very early age, this is the only knowledge they haveconfronted.
The movie beautifully shows how social factors affects the children in such a way that they don't realise it until they are adults or inquisitive.
Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
Beautiful and engaging!
A road trip heals a dysfunctional family so beautifully that they end up enjoying amongst themselves so much that they don't realise they are making a fool of themselves at the Beauty contest.
I couldn't help but notice the relationship between Olive and Grandpa. It shows the importance of grandparents' role in their grandchildrens' lives other than their parents'. Another thing that stood out to me was the fact that it was because of Olive the family gets a chance to begin a road trip. Thanks to her beauty contest and their broken car that gives them the opportunity to have conversations and take break from their monotonous lives.
Into the Wild (2007)
A break from civilization
This movie is an individual's journey of self-actualisation. He decides to meet his untested part of life and commits to live in the wild.
The viewers too get to join the wildlife adventure with Christopher as he manoeuvres through it. Existing in this materialistic generation, it's quite interesting to watch the desire with which Christopher compels us to discover our roots.
El hoyo (2019)
The degrading sense of humanity
The manifestation of the loss of humanity in our society comes forth gradually as one keeps on with the narrative. This movie achieves a distinct place as the representation done in the film will surely take a permanent place in the viewers' minds. The concrete representation of abstract things like greediness, selfishness foregrounds the fragments of our society due to which violence arises.
The ending is quite unique in the sense the narrative again chooses to represent in terms of what our society needs rather than demands: innocence, calmness, comprehension. These are some of the few things that the people should have in order to achieve harmony.
J'ai perdu mon corps (2019)
A lesson to be learned
It's an impeccable movie that shows the journey of two incomplete entities. It's interesting to realize how the hands with which we learn and feel things, we often tend to take it for granted. Some things are always there in front of our eyes but we barely recognise their importance. This movie made me realise the power of my hands!
Moreover, the soundtrack was complimentary with the melancholic tale that actually gives a way to catharsis. I really liked the movie because it you can easily take away multiple messages from this narrative.
The Bachelors (2017)
Don't avoid your emotions
This movie is a perfect example of how it's important to talk it out with your closed ones to let them know your feelings before it gets too late. While Bill gets professional help to cope with his wife's death, Wes keeps avoiding his emotions. Their encounter brings both of them to a place where they are hit with realization of their current positions.
It's a wonderful movie that shows the relationship of a father and son who make attempts to help each other by giving guidance to each other in their desired field.
Last Flag Flying (2017)
Down the memory lane
It's amusing to watch how three men with contrasting personalities begin a road trip to bury Doc's son. War indeed brings them contrasting memories but afterall, they are able to reunite because of their past. The movie also shows how it is important to sometimes deal with your past in order to have a smooth future. Even though, the three men have their individual coping strategies, they yet again face their past when they come together and they are finally able to come in terms with it.
