Speedy deletion nomination of Hur man sniffar korv
Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages, such as Hur man sniffar korv, to Wikipedia. Doing so is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I renamed the article to its English name "How to sniff sausage" and CSD'd it already. You warned me by accident, the creator wasUser:Korvigt22.--NortyNort (Holla) 11:40, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
The warning was sent to you by Twinkle. Twinkle is a software which users use to identify bad or vandalised articles and warns the users who created them. The warning you have is for the creation of the foregn language article. The English article has also been flagged for CSD but the user who created that will have been warned. Thanl you for getting in touch and if you have any further questions then please let me know, Oddbodz (talk) 11:44, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
- Got it, I use twinkle too and I didn't create the page. When I moved the page, it put me as the first editor on the article mistakenly. I usually move non-english titles before a CSD to put the criteria in better context but this is the second time this mistake happened, so I probably won't change the text of a title again, just the text in the article.--NortyNort (Holla) 11:47, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
Ok, no worrys. Oddbodz (talk) 11:48, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
copyright stuff
Thanks for the link to the "copy & paste is basically not allowed" guidelines, I've not seen that one before, I'm still a very inexperienced contributor to Wikipedia, and in that case it looks like I got a bit over enthusiastic :) EdwardLane (talk) 19:16, 15 April 2011 (UTC)
- No problem. There is nothing wrong with enthusiasm! I was the same way when I first started editing; I uploaded a bunch of copyrighted photos. There are a bunch of guidelines and rules here but once you get used to it, it gets much easier and better. If you ever have any questions, let me know on my talk page.--NortyNort (Holla) 01:05, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
anwarullah khan farouqi
hi, May you kindly reload the article Anwarullah khan farouqi which i created today and i was working on it unfortunately u deleated, kindly reload so that i can update it with other references and more information.as i started this article today, i thought of update the referenceses one by one, any how there are many other sites which provide the information about the article anwarullah khan farouqi. Thanks in advance..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Omer123hussain — Preceding unsigned comment added by Omer123hussain (talk • contribs) 09:59, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
- It was User:Quarl that actually deleted the article, I submitted the request. That administrator can restore the article for you. The problem with it was that the text was copied/pasted from the reference into the article. See WP:COPYPASTE for more guidance and as always, use your own words. Also, consider creating the article in your user space before moving it into the article space.--NortyNort (Holla) 12:14, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
You marked this article as "Material PD or appropriately licensed for use" at Wikipedia:Suspected copyright violations/2011-04-17 and I thought you should know that that wasn't entirely correct at the time you marked it. Wikibin is only licensed under GFDL and that hasn't been a compatible license for importing text since 1 November 2008 (see Wikipedia:Licensing update for all of the gory details). That said, Wikibin is also a particular site which only hosts copies of deleted Wikipedia articles, and so if an admin restores the history of the original (deleted) article for attribution then it will be appropriately licensed (I've done that in this case). I hope that makes sense. In any case, thanks for helping out at SCV, it's much appreciated, cheers! VernoWhitney (talk) 13:27, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- I saw that stipulation on {{Gnuweb}} today after I had made a similar judgment on Lebanese Mexican which uses yawiki.org (GNU mirror). The text there is the same as the current Arab Mexican. I think that was a good call in that case, right? I understand what you're saying and see the restoration and history merge at Baiyu as well. Thanks for quality-checking my work and providing advice. Much appreciated. Seems like there is a lot to learn.--NortyNort (Holla) 13:47, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's a similar situation; since yawiki is nice enough to actually say "It uses material from the Wikipedia article 'Arab_Mexican'" we know it's not G12 material. In this case the original article still exists, so this is a case where attribution isn't resolved through a history merge (since that would involve taking the history away from the original article), so we have to add attribution as indicated at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia (I used {{copied}} in this case, but there're a number of different ways to handle it - I just used and edit summary for Lebanese Venezuelan). There can be a lot of details to pick up, but I've been doing copyright cleanup as most of my editing for over a year now and Moonriddengirl for longer than that, so if you have any questions we should be able to come up with an answer. VernoWhitney (talk) 14:22, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Just stopping by to remind you that wikibin is one of those odd situations to watch out for at SCV since it pops up fairly regularly - I just restored the attribution history to Janet Finch-Saunders where you had removed a couple of paragraphs, which I've also restored. VernoWhitney (talk) 15:56, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
- Aaah, a mirror of an older revision before it was AfD'd. I didn't see that revision and thought the Wikipedia article was a derivative. Thanks for that. Why don't you add wikibin to the white-list?--NortyNort (Holla) 00:48, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
- The older revision wasn't there when you looked at it - it was still deleted until I restored it earlier today. I don't add wikibin to the white-list because if there was creative content added to the deleted article by any editor besides the one who recreated the article then the history needs to be restored to provide proper attribution, otherwise it is a copyright problem. Besides the copyright issue which someone needs to know about in order to fix it, there's also the issue that most of the wikibin matches are subject to WP:CSD#G4 speedy deletion. VernoWhitney (talk) 00:56, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
- I figured it was deleted, I didn't see it when I did my original check. If I come across another Wikibin SCV, I will know what to do now. Thanks for the explanation.--NortyNort (Holla) 01:04, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Romance - it is NOT A SONG!!
Romance is a solo instrumental guitar work! (Though there are arrangements for voice, there are not original and only appeared later). The work is best known as a solo guitar instrumental... not a song. In this context, your changes (though probably done in well-meaning) will be improved accordingly. Thanks for your consideration Romanceguitar (talk) 11:04, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- I explained my edits on your talk page. The revert had more to do with the proper way of changing (moving) a page's title; keeping the page history together. I would discuss how relevant the move is on the article's talk page.--NortyNort (Holla) 11:07, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Ah I read about your comment on moving!! Thanks, I'll do that. It makes sense to preserve the history! Romanceguitar (talk) 11:06, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- No problem, good luck!--NortyNort (Holla) 11:08, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
I think you're mistaken in removing the content above for copyvio, although I accept it was a copyvio initially, I had meant to save it my user space to work on but saved it to the main wiki in error. Since then I believe I have removed the contentious material and replaced it with sourced and referenced material. Thanks, yorkshiresky (talk) 14:09, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hello, If you look here, you can see several areas where an extensive amount of the text is still copied and pasted/closely paraphrased directly from the source. I saw you made some changes and it is an improvement from the original, but there is still a possible infringement. I am not sure of the wesbite's copyright, but if one isn't noted, it is assumed to be copyrighted. If you want to move the article to your user space to fix it up you can.--NortyNort (Holla) 21:38, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
Cut/paste moves
Saw your note at SCV so I thought I'd try to explain the situation in more detail. If someone cuts and pastes material from article A to article B, and then redirects A to B, that's a straightforward cut/paste move, and a problem because it breaks history for attribution. At this point there are really three options:
- If you restore article A and redirect B to A, then you've fixed the problem, but undone the move at the same time - which is fine unless they're going to just go back and cut/paste again, but if you're watching the articles for a short time at least then this shouldn't be a problem.
- Now where the page really should be moved to the new name (for whatever reason) then it takes an admin to move the page history from A to B, since it requires temporarily deleting page B. You should be able to tag these articles using {{Db-copypaste}}.
- For more complex cases where page A hasn't just been turned into a redirect, but has been replaced with an entirely new article or dab page, as was the case with Pineapple gall adelgid created from Adelges, then it takes an admin to delete and recreate page A and then do the same to B. These articles should be tagged using {{Histmerge}} and may require some further explanation if it's a particularly messy situation.
Let me know if I lost you anywhere (and I apologize if I'm telling you things you already know). I think I just used {{Histmerge}} for both cases before I was an admin. VernoWhitney (talk) 13:05, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the good explanation, I was unfamiliar with #3 the most. When I saw what you did with the Pineapple gall adelgid article, I realized why. Attribution is a factor I am getting used to. I have learned a lot in the past week, just when I thought there wasn't much more. In the future, I will just mark such cases accordingly.--NortyNort (Holla) 13:40, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Victoria Dam
Hi there! Paid a detour to the Victoria Dam last week, with the intention of getting some info and photos to improve the article by next week. At the site, I noticed this structure. Any idea what part of the dam that is? Or what it's for? Google Maps shows nothing behind it... Rehman 08:54, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
- That's awesome and cool pictures! It must've been a nice tour and a good place to take a break. I would've loved to have seen it.</envy> About that structure, it appears to be the power plant intake. If you look at these coordinates: 7°12′00″N 80°48′20″E / 7.20000°N 80.80556°E (Google Earth), you can see the power station downstream. On your photo, that tower looks like a gantry crane which raises the intake gates and can move side-to-side along tracks to each one. During construction of the dam, they had to dig a 5.7km tunnel for water delivery and install the intake facility there. That probably explains why the whole face of that hill was covered in concrete. The concrete is good as well for structural support and to keep debris from rolling into one of the intakes.--NortyNort (Holla) 10:06, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hah, new you would have an answer! :-D The dam was pretty cool, but unfortunately the sluices were closed when we were there, else it would have just added to the spice! Nevertheless, we managed to beg for a permit to drive over the dam! Unfortunately, we were ordered not to stop over the dam for any reason; could have had better shots from there... :D Rehman 11:59, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
- Yea, the reservoir looked low but I guess you are heading into the peak of the dry season there. Cool video, too bad you couldn't stop. I am trying to visit Three Gorges Dam and do a Yangtze River tour in June.--NortyNort (Holla) 12:21, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
- Three Gor...!! Now that is something really cool! Rehman 12:45, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
- Yea, that would be exciting. Hopefully everything works out. By the way, when you were at the dam, did you get any material or enthusiasm to expand its article? Maybe to GA?--NortyNort (Holla) 12:47, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, my visits to both dams (Victoria and Upper Kotmale) didn't end up with much information, other that the "information" I found myself when looking at them, and the pictures themselves; I went there on the Sinhalese New Year, so everything was pretty much dead, unfortunately. I've managed to expand the Upper Kotmale article as much as I can, and I intend to do the same with Victoria, and some others, but I think it is nearly impossible to reach GA due to the lack of publicly available detailed information about them (apart from some online data). Will give it a shot in the coming weeks anyways :) Rehman 13:20, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
- Well, Wikipedia has a "man on the ground", maybe there is something info in a library or local newspapers/magazines. Anyway, an article can pass GA with just online references. Surely there are some scholarly sources as well. If you went for FA, you might run into a few problems without a book on the subject. I am calling it a night soon and will look for references tomorrow. I can help out if you want.--NortyNort (Holla) 13:38, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
- Okay. See you later :) Rehman 14:53, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
- I did some research and found a lot on the dam and Mawhweli Project in general. I added it to my drawing board [[[User:NortyNort/Drawing_board#Victoria_Dam_.28Sri_Lanka.29|here]] and listed references. I think there is enough for a nice expansion and GA. The pictures help out a lot too and the more text, the more pictures! I will read read up on it today and start expanding soon. You're welcome to add more references and help out.--NortyNort (Holla) 02:36, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

I thought you might be interested to know that I run a backup copy of CorenSearchBot's code which does the exact same job at User:VWBot/manual, so hopefully one of the two bots will be up and running at any given time. VernoWhitney (talk) 14:32, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

- I restored the listing you added here. It won't break anything, worst case it'll just sit around doing nothing while the bot is down. My internet apparently dropped out last night, and I'm trying to get it fixed right now; once that's done the bot should start right up again. VernoWhitney (talk) 13:07, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- Whew! I initially added the linked entry with a missing bracket and thought I may have tripped it up.--NortyNort (Holla) 13:08, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- No, missing brackets or other misformatting won't give you good results (as I recall it either won't remove them from the list at all or it will spit out nonsensical results - see the last 5 entries here caused by me entering a leading colon in the wikilinks), but it won't break the bot (VWBot's now back up and running, FYI). VernoWhitney (talk) 13:44, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- Interesting, does VWBot use the same coding as CorenSearchBot for copyvios?--NortyNort (Holla) 13:47, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- Yes. It's an older version of the code and it has a few tweaks so that it acts only as a backup instead of racing CSB to see who gets there first, but it's the same matching algorithm. Some of the results come back different, but I'm not entirely sure why - maybe Yahoo feeds us slightly different results on occasion. I'd like to get a better (or at least a different) algorithm going at some point, but this task was implemented in a rush basically because CorenSearchBot isn't always stable, and it's bad for it to be down for days on end. VernoWhitney (talk) 13:54, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- It is good you made a back up. I think the bots are effective overall. I'd say there are false positives about ~10% of the time and sometimes the bot doesn't tag the article or appear to catch the copy/paste. Is the bot able to scan every single new article or it only catches what it can?--NortyNort (Holla) 22:17, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- When it's running it scans every new article. Part of the problem with effectiveness is that it's limited by what Yahoo search provides so it doesn't catch matches in Google Books, for example. The threshold could be tweaked to catch more borderline articles, but that would also increase the number of false positives, and judging from feedback it's already pretty much at the limit of what people are willing to put up with. The rest of it mostly comes down to the algorithms which can certainly be changed but that takes time for coding and trial/error which just hasn't been put into it yet. VernoWhitney (talk) 17:34, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Millennium Dam
On 27 April 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Millennium Dam, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the Millennium Dam on the Blue Nile in Ethiopia will house Africa's largest hydroelectric power plant and impound the continent's largest reservoir when completed? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Copyright
Hi, I read your note and tried to rewrite my submission. It's in my sandbox. Does this pass? I don't want to resubmit until you've approved. croninx 15:09, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
- I found your sandbox here and made a few tweaks if you don't mind. It looks better but there are still some matches and close paraphrasing with the biography text and it looks like a derivative work. If you look at this tool, you can see text matches in bold and the text surrounding it. An example below:
- Your sandbox: "europe the far east and eastern block countries to broker deals between dow chemical the government of romania and the other eastern bloc countries"
- His bio: "he traveled extensively throughout europe and the far east brokering deals between dow chemical and the romanian government and trade agreements with other eastern"
- Hopefully you can see what I mean there. When I write an article, I have the source in one tab of my browser (or in front of me for offline sources) and the Wikipedia edit-window in another. I switch back and forth and just put everything in my own words. If you try to copy/paste and switch words around, it makes more work in the end and increases the chances of creating a derivative work and/or copyright violation. It is always best to start from scratch which would be the best course of action with Anthony DiPaolo. I can help out more tomorrow, my eyes are sagging and I am about to call it a night.--NortyNort (Holla) 15:42, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks! I'll use that tool from now on. Is the goal to get it to have zero matches? Or are there acceptable matches (e.g., two word combinations)? croninx 15:48, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
- No problem. With matches in the Duplication Detector tool...not necessarily; there will always be the names of people, companies, places, etc along with coincidences. The tool is good for improper matches such as here, which is an article that was recently cleaned up. It is also good for identifying close-paraphrasing. I only use it to check other articles for copyvios, you shouldn't have to use it on your own work. If it helps you though, then all the better. Good luck!--NortyNort (Holla) 16:03, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

I only use it to check other articles for copyvios, you shouldn't have to use it on your own work. If it helps you though, then all the better. Good luck!--NortyNort (Holla) 16:03, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks! I'll use that tool from now on. Is the goal to get it to have zero matches? Or are there acceptable matches (e.g., two word combinations)? croninx 15:48, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

For your sustained and invaluable attention to copyright concerns and especially to the unofficial clerking you have been providing at Wikipedia:Copyright problems Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:03, 7 May 2011 (UTC) |
- Prior to you, I had never considered that that board might need a clerk, but since you've begun assisting I am considering that perhaps we need a "official" system, as the boards at WP:SPI have. Official or not, you have been very helpful at a particular crucial point for me, anyway, as I've been struggling with burn-out in that area. If not for you, that board would have fallen far further behind than it currently is. So, thank you for helping me keep some motivation and for your substantial assistance in the work. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:03, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot! Part of my motivation to help there is the backlog. I would like to help at CCI but all my time is taken up at SCV and CP with not that much left for article content. As a relative newbie to the space, I have been formulating my own ideas to improve the space. I think a clerk would be the best way to establish help and organize the space a little better. There are active editors at SCV that could do pretty much the same job at CP. When I first saw CP, it came-off as admin-only. Maybe other editors feel the same way? I am glad that I am helping you out, you are crucial the board. It may not be that 'flashy' of a workspace and quite complicated at times but very important to the project.--NortyNort (Holla) 14:57, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
- I will put nose to the grindstone today. (Or try to. There will be some kind of festivities of unknown duration, though if history is an accurate predictor they'll be brief. :D) I know what you mean about the overwhelming workload in the area, and I will be happy to hear your ideas. Fresh insight is always valuable, particularly if it can help us make the area more friendly to newcomers. CP has evolved since I got there. It really was more "admin only" at the time, since everything was blanked (although even then the temp spaces for rewrite would have benefited from attention), but now that it handles close paraphrasing and copy-paste as well it's a much more open field. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:30, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
- Well, enjoy said festivities, especially if you are the center of them. I am located far from home in Japan, so I had some extra time today and worked some reports. I will put my ideas together for CP and let you know in the next few days. I had a question though. When someone places {{copyvio}} on an article and doesn't blank the text, can that text show up in web searches? I ask this because it is much easier to delete copyvio text when it is 'hidden' behind the tag and not in an old revision.--NortyNort (Holla) 12:01, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. Theoretically, I am the center of them, but in practice somehow seem to be head of the cleanup crew. :D Yes, unfortunately, the text hidden behind {{copyvio}} shows up on searches. For a time, we eliminated the blanking requirement and felt very clever for the automatic hiding, but our error was pointed out to us. :) I'll look forward to hearing your ideas! I'm going to be traveling myself next week, beginning on Wednesday, and I doubt I'll be able to access Wikipedia until Sunday. So there's certainly time. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:11, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the answer, that makes sense. You seem to have a knack for cleaning up other people's messes whether in good faith or not. :) Have fun traveling, I'll have my pointers done by then.--NortyNort (Holla) 12:41, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

- Nice proposal! I responded there and offered to be the inaugural clerk. I think it is a good idea...it increases the chances of more help and a future 'generation' of copyvio soldiers. It'd be neat if the job came with some perks like a parking spot or window office but hey, I am in. My job has been rather hectic lately. Sometimes it is boring and at other times I can work really late and lose a lot of sleep.--NortyNort (Holla) 08:44, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

NortyNort, thanks for showing me an instance to fix the sentence to avoid copyright infringement. I saw your comment from another linking page that the plot part still needs to be revised. I will try to improve the article when time allows. :)
I have contributed 50,000 times to Korean Wikipedia and have created about 3,500 articles for about three years. However, I am not yet accustomed with the activites in English Wikipedia due to different policies and (somewhat more restricted) guidlines from those of the Korean Wikipedia. Also I am not good at English. Sorry if my contribution bothers you. I didn't want to copy and paste copyrighted materials, but I probably had to paraphrase it to prevent copyright suspicions. Please understand that I am still learning English.
Anyway, I appreciate your hard work. If you have any advice please let me know. :) Ykhwong (talk) 07:40, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hey Ykhwong, your contributions don't bother me; no worries. The only thing left to do on that article is a revision deletion that an administrator will come by and do later. I commented that you had tried to clean some of it up which you did for the most part. I haven't worked on another Wikipedia but from what I gather, this one is the most stringent with rules, etc. Copyrights are universal though and should apply to all. Even if you have trouble with English, you shouldn't copy and paste the text or try to paraphrase it. My best advice is to use your own words and look back and forth from the source to the edit panel. That way you won't violate a copyright. At this link is the copyright FAQ which has a lot of good information. If you ever have trouble writing an article and want me to look it over before you put it in the article space, just let me know. Your English was good in this posting by the way!--NortyNort (Holla) 08:42, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

- Do you need help using the eLibrary on the ferc.gov website or are you all set with researching the hydro licenses for the dam? Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 09:00, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- I found a lot in a search here (my results may not show). There is a lot to sift through and maybe I can bring it down to less results. In the search, I am not sure what class/type document is actually for a license renewal/request. This looks like typical gov't bureaucracy to me. In the history sections on dam articles, I don't detail the history of licensing, maybe a sentence or two about when its license will expire. Changes to the dam and post 9/11 change-related stuff could be found in the reports I assume. I guess this can be a good resource if used correctly.--NortyNort (Holla) 09:17, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- I was involved in developing the predecessor system to eLibrary and also got the full text of FERC Reports loaded into LEXIS. You can also search FERC/FPC decisions on Westlaw, but both LEXIS and Westlaw charge, while eLibrary is free. Confine your eLibrary search to "Opinion/Orders." Set Docket Number to P-1494-* (* is a wildcard character.) You can zero in on the date of the last license renewal to pick up that order and its conditions. You can also use Google News around that date for press coverage of the renewal. More recent orders show battles over building marina piers into the lake. One recent order on marina piers drew a publish dissent from Commissioner Sudeen Kelly. There is ongoing environmental concerns about the oxygen levels in the lake water and its effects on the lake's ecosystem. A key point is that regardless of who owns the dam, its hydro license is a public trust which FERC can give to someone else in 2022 if the current licensee is not the best person to operate the facility.
- The Wikipedia website is very slow today, and I accidentally deleted all text hidden below the scroll of the edit window. This is now corrected. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 23:02, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help. That must have been some project. I am working on this and a tourism section now. These are two areas I often don't include, your ideas are great. This has been a busy week, I just had to go back into work this evening.--NortyNort (Holla) 10:15, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

copypaste vs move
Hi NortyNort. Thank you keeping an eye and sending me the notice. I have worked together with User:Dr. Blofeld to create articles for all of the (initially 79 smaller) barrios of Montevideo and we have been in agreement that some of them will have to be redirected to others of the series to end up with the 58 (actually it turned out to be 62) officialy recognized barrios. You will notice that most of my talk page contains discussion with Dr. Blofeld about Montevideo, barrios, etc. The little stub ("Article name" is a neighbourhood (barrio) of Montevideo, Uruguay) and the empty infobox which I copypasted [1] was a serial work he did to start all 79 stubs. I am absolutely sure he has no problem with my action. The reason that in this case I redirected instead of moving is that after the move I would have to create an article with the exact (old) title and place a redirect to the moved (new) name. Sorry for the confusion. I will avoid such copypastes in the future. Hoverfish Talk 11:43, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- You got it right. Strange as it may sound, in all my 4 years of editing, I had not noticed that a move creates a redirect of the old title. Thanks for the tip. btw: Yes, Dr. Blofeld does a great job! Hoverfish Talk 13:25, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Dear NortyNort, the comparison that you've posted 12:51, 13 May 2011 seems to have phrases that were already edited. Please note that both texts are translations from the same source, the old Russian Great Soviet Encyclopedia, numerously used in the WP, i.e. the same underlying terminology was translated with the same words, some coincidences are inescapable, but if you can run the comparison again, it should show much less lengthy coincidences than on may 10th initial version. The matching utility is a great help to see things that are not apparent. Barefact (talk) 00:50, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help, I hope Kaunchi culture has passed the muster now.
- I have another translation in the works, maybe you can help checking that too, to save on later conflicts. It is User:Barefact/Dzhetyasar culture translation from Russian WP, but it may have the same problem with using the same underlying source. Barefact (talk) 20:02, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

- The material you've removed from Mecca Massacre page, are essential information to the context of the events. They should be restored as a quotation per our copyright guidelines, which clearly states "Brief quotations of copyrighted text may be used to illustrate a point, establish context, or attribute a point of view or idea.". - Hey Kurdo. I agree the information is essential to the article but the amount removed isn't brief and is beyond rationale fair-use in quotations IMO. The information can be rewritten into the article in an editor's own words though.--NortyNort (Holla) 13:26, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. I rewrote the material, and summarized it to the bare essentials to avoid copyvios. [2] Kurdo777 (talk) 13:59, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Sanmenxia Dam
On 18 May 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Sanmenxia Dam, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Sanmenxia Dam (pictured) on the Yellow River in the People's Republic of China was hailed as an engineering success after completion and its picture was printed on banknotes? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Speedy deletion nomination of Stockport Council election, 2012
A tag has been placed on Stockport Council election, 2012, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to an article talk page, file description page, file talk page, MediaWiki page, MediaWiki talk page, category talk page, portal talk page, template talk page, help talk, user page, user talk or special page from the main/article space.
If you can fix the redirect to point to a mainspace page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you are fixing the redirect. If you think the redirect should be retained as is for some reason, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}

Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the article's talk page directly to give your reasons. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. DASHBot (talk) 12:00, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Hoover again
There was an article in the NY Times that mentioned that with the huge snowpack in the Rockies this year, there will be drought relief for Lakes Mead and Powell. Probably not worth a mention at this point. With luck, they'll have to use the spillways at Hoover again as in 1983! I'd go again just to see that.--Wehwalt (talk) 11:08, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
- I see! I knew it probably wouldn't apply but with the flooding in the Mississippi basin and elsewhere recently, I checked the lake levels anyway. Flooding would bring some relief. Hoover Dam is second in-line and I don't think they will let Lake Powell rise much into flood storage, so we may see a spillway use. It depends how they manage it and how much run-off there is. A year-over-year increase could cap-off a few sentences on the worst drought in a long time. The effects on Lake Mead have been covered in that article, but it may be good to cover the effects on power in the dam article as well. It would be nice to see some drought relief, so Vegas can be at ease for a short while and the northern Nevadians can stop fearing the city "stealing" their water...for a short while as well.--NortyNort (Holla) 11:40, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
- I've thought of expanding the power section ... we really don't explain the penstock-turbine system. I'll start gathering stuff together. I'm currently away so it will be a couple of weeks.--Wehwalt (talk) 12:06, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
- I guess it could be trimmed, I am not the best to ask though because design is my favorite part of dam articles. I'd assume it is due because the articles covers the dam's architecture just as well, maybe better. I meant to show you this earlier, but this diff from awhile back almost looked incriminating at first glance.--NortyNort (Holla) 12:19, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

- Careless of me not to catch it, but when I am in edit mode, I'm thinking about content.--Wehwalt (talk) 11:11, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yea, tough one to catch. I will look at Hoover more this weekend and maybe draft something up. Given the water projections in the NYT article (5.6 billion m3 between Lakes Powell and Mead), it doesn't seem they will reach near full capacity. That is more than twice the average annual flow of the Colorado, so it should still be interesting to watch.--NortyNort (Holla) 12:36, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, that was what my ballpark estimate came up with. At least it will raise the water level, even if not enough to require spillway use.--Wehwalt (talk) 02:23, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi NortyNort,
I presume I have improved your edition and explained it in the talk page. --Keysanger 16:07, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
- There was still problems with your new version, so I restored an older one. I commented on the article talk as well.--NortyNort (Holla) 08:24, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
- I had to learn that the duplicate detector gets older (cached) versions of the WP articles, so we have to use the permanent link instead of the simple WP link. I did it and almost rewrite the complete article. Please, take a look. Of course, I would appreciate if you correct or improve the language or the content: Talk:Jonathan_Moyle/temp. --Keysanger 11:40, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hey Keysanger. Hmm, I have had problems refreshing the duplication detector (DD) within minutes after cleaning up an article but never this long after. Anyway, here is a link to the DD with the current version of your temp article compared to the BBC article. Among several, one instance: "the moyle family a chilean judicial investigation concluded he had been murdered" appear both in the article and BBC article by visual confirmation as well. I honestly considered rewriting those sentences from scratch and as original as possible.--NortyNort (Holla) 11:59, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

- Okay, sounds good. I will read it over and give feedback after I get out of work today. I was going to ask if you needed help putting it together. Thanks.--NortyNort (Holla) 21:30, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- Can you tell I was rushed when I left that note? Ooo, Yoda been here has! --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:32, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hahaha, yea. Yoda-talk should be in style though!--NortyNort (Holla) 21:40, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

I left some comments there and will comment if I have more. I have some good ideas for the 'Advice for clerks' page from what I have learned so far. I am still working on my copyright area feedback, a lot of which the clerk proposal is resolving. Recently, this template answered one of my questions as well. Anyway, I have a long weekend coming up and with a nasty storm approaching my residence, I will probably be inside with plenty of time.--NortyNort (Holla) 11:47, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Eep! Stay safe! I'll go look at your notes after poking at a few more cp listings. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:55, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

You're a Superhero!
Thanks for all the help with Ahab. It still needs massive amounts of work, but I've at least added categories for tonight and some better formatted headings. Question...A friend posted a really awesome rewording for the bio on a message board for me to see/use. If I copy that into wiki now, is it going to turn up as me using copyrighted material? Any thoughts on what to do about that? Thanks-AD — Preceding unsigned comment added by Audiodaughter (talk • contribs) 06:47, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- No problem, I had to remove a few of the categories as one didn't exist and two others referred to just a musician, not a group. I added an infobox in there that you can update too. Regarding your friends posting in the forum, it depends on the terms of use for that website. Some websites let users hold the copyright while others copyright all content. Wikipedia, for example, copyrights everything I add to the site under CC-BY-SA (note the disclaimer below the "Save page" button). If the site is copyrighted, your friend may have to have it verified through OTRS. If your friend removes the content from the site, it may work out as well.--NortyNort (Holla) 12:01, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
Fujinuma Dam formatting
hello I had to revert your formatting changes. I understand your desire to keep all three images on the page, but because MOS does not permit text being "sandwiched" between images or infoboxes, and because ADA blind readers are not compatible with left-aligned images beginning new sections, your changes will not work no matter how logical they may seem.
Because there is really only room for 2 images and the infobox in that page, I think that the location map is the least relevant to the page, being non-unique and replicated elsewhere on WP. However thank you for explaining that the co-ordinates do not have to be deleted along with the map, so I was able to keep more info in the box this time. 66.220.113.98 (talk) 20:52, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't think the text was that sandwiched but I think it all looks fine now. The map is indeed the most expendable. Thanks for adding that image by the way. I don't know if you took it or not but it adds a lot of value to the article.--NortyNort (Holla) 01:44, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
Hidase/Millennium Dam
Hello,
Great job on the Millennium Dam page! I'm sorry for not catching it. However, the dam's name has been changed, so I combined the two articles under one name, the current one, and added a number of facts. I hope that is all right with you. --Simfan34 (talk) 21:16, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- I see nothing in your sources that show the name has changed. The only reference given that refers to it as the Hidase Dam is an unreliable blog. I also cannot find anything in sources to support this name change. If Hidase Dam was the original name, it can be mentioned in the Millennium Dam article. I have to reverse your redirect not only because of the actual name but because you did a cut and paste move. See WP:MOVE for the proper way to move a page in the future. I do not think this page should be moved back to Hidase Dam but if you believe so, please request a move at Talk:Millennium_Dam and list your reasons.--NortyNort (Holla) 01:32, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- Here are several sources concerning the name change:
- There were also several facts contained on the page I had as compared to yours that I think merit inclusion. --Simfan34 (talk) 16:43, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
Ruth Glass
Dear NortyNort,
I have noticed your comment on Ruth Glass Copyright problem - here at Wikipedia:Copyright_problems#19_May_2011. I am just writing to ask if I am allowed as the writer of the article - the perpetrator of the "problem" to debate the issue at that page. I had a line by line analysis of the article on my talk page with comparisions of the bits of the text which I have now put on Talk:Ruth Glass. The sources used were cited and included the ODNB, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography not the article [5] refered to on the accusation which is a summary of the ODNB. It really seems a bit much to claim this is close paraphrasing. Anyway can you offer me advice - should I just wait and see what happens or might I contribute in someway to the discussion. (Msrasnw (talk) 09:58, 28 May 2011 (UTC))
- Hey Msrasnw. Sure, you can comment there as you are involved. An administrator will look it over shortly and close the issue. I didn't see much close-paraphrasing in the article, but I see where concerns came from. Maybe two sentences will need to be rewritten. I am sure everything will work out soon.--NortyNort (Holla) 10:19, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks I have replied there (expressing my desire to be cleared of the charge) Best wishes (Msrasnw (talk) 10:45, 28 May 2011 (UTC))
- I don't think you're being charged or convicted with anything. Mistakes, even if coincidental, happen and we have to assume good faith. It's the editors that repeatedly and blatantly violate copyrights that are charged...and blocked.--NortyNort (Holla) 11:01, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi I got your message about the copyright infringement, but I was under the impression that it was just the second paragraph (since deleted) that was the problem. I read it over a few times, and looked at some other, similar articles, and realized that the offending paragraph was unnecessary, so I just deleted it. Goodbucket (talk) 20:31, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
