User:Elli/rcat standardization

This is a page that I'm using to document my efforts to standardize redirect categories.

List of current rcats: Wikipedia:Template index/Redirect pages

Already automatically applied by {{redirect category shell}}

also implemented in {{Automatic redirect categories}}

Could be automatically applied

  Done with {{Automatic redirect categories}} (which uses Module:Wd). Note: this currently uses {{Wikidata redirect/hard}}, which should probably be moved to {{R with Wikidata}}.

Note: {{Wikidata redirect}} works for both hard and soft redirects. These should ideally be two separate templates – the one for hard redirects should be applied automatically only.

  Done with {{Automatic redirect categories}} (which uses Module:RedirectData)

  • {{R to talk page}} – applies only to redirects from outside all talk namespaces

Steps to implementing

edit
  1. Gain consensus at Template talk:Redirect category shell
  2. Apply changes
  3. Remove all redundant transclusions with a bot (Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/ElliBot will need to be updated with all removed redirect categories, instead of just {{Wikidata redirect}})

Seems like they could be automatically applied, but cannot be

edit
  • {{R from remote talk page}} – while automatic namespace detection is possible, redirects from one talk page to another should not always be talked, for example in cases of page moves.
