Help requested for GA review of Sunil Kumar Verma

Dear AntanO thanks for your help for my recent DYK nomination! Hope it would go ahead! May I also seek your help to review my another article that is currently nominated for GA (This). Regards. Educationtemple (talk) 16:34, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

I'd try to review. --AntonTalk 16:46, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks! Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 17:34, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

Your points are very constructive. I take them all positively and I shall work on each of them to address the issue(s). I have to do more research on the subject! But no problem.....I take it as a learning and I enjoy this. I shall get back to you if you don't mind; once I have done the work on your suggestions!

Note: Most of the credit for the good English of this article and other good points that you have highlighted about the article goes to @W.carter: and @Philg88:. W.carter mentioned to me some of the points you highlighted, but I was lazy to improve! But, now I know...!! I must be back soon! And thanks for your appraisals for Lalji Singh Cheers!

  • Hello AntanO, I noticed you recently reviewed Sunil Kumar Verma's good article nomination. Your review was basically correct but it appeared that you failed the article right after you started the review. Per WP:GA/I it is always better to put the article on hold, to give time for issues to be fixed. The issues didn't appeared to be huge. So, I suggest you to give some time to the nominator atleast to try to fix the issues in future as you know not everyone lives in the same time zone. Cheers, Jim Carter 14:24, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
Agree, but WP:GA/I allows to failing too as per weight of the issues, and nominator can appeal for WP:GAR. --AntonTalk 05:35, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Jim @Jim Carter:. I am working on article as suggested by dear AntanO and soon will finish my work on most of the points suggested. I am sure AntanO will help at that time once I am done to re-look at the article and review the decision. Best....Educationtemple (talk) 21:02, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

Good luck with your editing. Feel free to talk during article development. --AntonTalk 05:35, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

Oh! That's great AntanO! Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 06:40, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

Dear AntanO, I had done editing and addressed most of the issues that you raised during GA review. Could you please see it onnce and point out, so that I could go ahead for WP:GAR if you give a green signal. Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 10:29, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

Hello Dear AntanO. Initiated GAR (here) as you suggested. Please see. Thanks AND tc. Educationtemple (talk) 09:21, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

DYK review for Lalji Singh

I think it was a good suggestion by Yoninah - i.e. end the hook just after India. The new hook will become --

  • ... that Lalji Singh (pictured) is popularly known as the "Father of DNA Fingerprinting" in India.

What do you think?? Educationtemple (talk) 07:38, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

WikiCup 2015 March newsletter

One of several of Godot13's quality submissions during round 1

That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. 64 competitors made it into this round, and are now broken into eight groups of eight. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups. Round 1 saw some interesting work on some very important articles, with the round leader   Freikorp (submissions) owing most of his 622 points scored to a Featured Article on the 2001 film Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within which qualified for a times-two multiplier. This is a higher score than in previous years, as   Godot13 (submissions) had 500 points in 2014 at the end of round 1, and our very own judge,   Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) led round 1 with 601 points in 2013.

In addition to Freikorp's work, some other important articles and pictures were improved during round one, here's a snapshot of a few of them:

You may also wish to know that The Core Contest is running through the month of March. Head there for further details - they even have actual prizes!

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! March 2015

Hi, AntanO. Yes, thank you for creating India's Daughter. I can certainly understand your reverts of unsourced and/or opinionated additions to it, but it's a bit bitey towards new users, who're clearly trying in good faith to contribute, to revert without even an edit summary. Or with mysterious Wikipedia alphabet soup like "POV". Please try to provide more explanatory edit summaries, and consider starting a discussion on the talkpage. I can't tell you what to do, but I think talking with at least the logged-in newbie on their talkpage about sourcing might also help. It may well be hard for new users to even find histories, or article talkpages. (A template saying their edits "did not appear to be constructive" doesn't really tell them what the problem was. It's more intended for vandals.) Bishonen | talk 18:33, 8 March 2015 (UTC).

Thanks for the note, Bishonen. You are right. I'll do. --AntonTalk 18:39, 8 March 2015 (UTC)

Dutch Burghers

Thank you for saving Dutch Burghers. Would you be interested in expanding the page and creating related pages please? I think much more could be added: historic buildings/churches (is there an equivalent to the National Register of Historic Places?), the plantations they owned, the Dutch Burgher Union of Ceylon (which has its own historic building), St Nikolaas' Home (check this out), etc. The descendants of Friedrich Wilhelm von Driberg owned sugar plantations in Ceylon I think, but I wonder if there is much published research about that. Please reply on my talkpage.Zigzig20s (talk) 23:16, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

Thank you. I'm reading Lost White Tribes: The End of Privilege and the Last Colonials in Sri Lanka, Jamaica, Brazil, Haiti, Namibia and Guadeloupe by Riccardo Orizio (published by The Free Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, in 2000, and widely reviewed) and on page 16 he describes it as, 'once a powerful secret society but now only a gloomy billiard hall near Buller Road, draped in dust and cobwebs'. I am not sure whether to add the quote or not.Zigzig20s (talk) 06:26, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

Don't ever try that again

If you do that that again I will report you. And you know exactly what I am talking about. Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 16:10, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

What do you mean? --AntonTalk 16:18, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Okay

  • You created the article, therefore you should know that what you added was pulp trying to bulk up the story, probably for lack of anything else taht you could find with a source. In essence, that bit was/ is junk.
  • I should have deleted it, but wanted to be lenient of good faith work of other editors and added a tag in the hope that someone would come along and fix it.
  • Asking "who?" a person is serves to establish the credibility of the author in relation to the article - was he a tourist? a writer of novels? an historian? a sociologist? Based on that, I or any other editor could then have decided to keep or delete that part.
  • You added an idiotic link to some or other merit awarded to a person by that name. Firstly, you have been here long enough to know that we don't use information in the Wikipedia to prove/ support/ confirm anything else on Wikipedia. Secondly, that page tells you nothing about the person, and whatever there is, is nonsense - says that "lately" he was something or other, obviously added by someone who does not speak English properly. Then, whatever he was "lately", does not tell you what he was, in what capacity he wrote the book.
  • That is why I justifiably reverted you.
  • You then out of spite reverted it back. If if was not spite it was vandalism. You added a query in the edit summary - which implies that you were not sure, therefore reverting something when you are not even sure about it is nothing less than vandalism.
  • You also knew that you were merely reverting out of spite because in the same second you removed that part in question, which means you already had it thought out in your head, or else you do things without thinking.

Next time you do that, I will call an adminstrator to deal with you. Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 17:07, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

What’s wrong with you? Mind you language when you speak in a public place, particularly when a person does voluntary work. If you see an article as pulp, bulk or junk, try to do your best, not act like superior. Did I ask you to assess? Don’t you know to avoid snide comments? How could you delete the article since you don’t have sysop? Is it threading? You revert was idiotic summery. I don’t use Wikipedia as source, but interlink. Did I use as reference link? I didn’t revert back, but undo. Both have different meanings. Don’t assume that what was in my head? Who gave you authority comment about my thinking? Mind your words and behave with civility. Each article has talk page and you should have express your thoughts. If you keeping harassing me, I will report you on WP:ANI.--AntonTalk 17:53, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

WikiCup 2015 May newsletter

C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) is a long-period comet discovered on 17 August 2014 by Terry Lovejoy; and is one of several Featured Pictures worked up by   The Herald (submissions) during the second round.

The second round one has all wrapped up, and round three has now begun! Congratulations to the 34 contestants who have made it through, but well done and thank you to all contestants who took part in our second round. Leading the way overall was   Cas Liber (submissions) in Group B with a total of 777 points for a variety of contributions including Good Articles on Corona Borealis and Microscopium - both of which received the maximum bonus.

Special credit must be given to a number of high importance articles improved during the second round.

The points varied across groups, with the lowest score required to gain automatic qualification was 68 in Group A - meanwhile the second place score in Group H was 404, which would have been high enough to win all but one of the other Groups! As well as the top two of each group automatically going through to the third round, a minimum score of 55 was required for a wildcard competitor to go through. We had a three-way tie at 55 points and all three have qualified for the next round, in the spirit of fairness. The third round ends on June 28, with the top two in each group progressing automatically while the remaining 16 highest scorers across all four groups go through as wildcards. Good luck to all competitors for the third round! Figureskatingfan (talk · contribs · email), Miyagawa (talk · contribs · email) and Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email) 17:04, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

Capitals

Please note that the names of templates are spelled with capitals. At least don't replace them by regular letters, as you did in this edit. Debresser (talk) 17:35, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

But, this ({{Cite journal}}) example points to lowercase. --AntanO 17:48, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
Why? "Cite" with a capital. Not every word capitalized, of course. That we never do on Wikipedia, or in decent English. Debresser (talk) 23:34, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

Work with me! :)

Hello, I want to see a resolution to your concerns about List of Sinhalese monarchs as much as you do, so please work with me and hopefully we can do some constructive work. I think you have been misreading what the article is about. It is not original research and it does not claim that Tamil Kings are actually Sinhalese. This is a list of kings who have ruled in the Sinhalese Kingdoms under a Sinhalese Monarchy, hence the "Sinhalese" in List of Sinhalese monarchs. I have made it more clear in the Talk page.--Blackknight12 (talk) 14:35, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

WikiCup 2015 September newsletter

The finals for the 2015 Wikicup has now begun! Congrats to the 8 contestants who have survived to the finals, and well done and thanks to everyone who took part in rounds 3 and 4.

In round 3, we had a three-way tie for qualification among the wildcard contestants, so we had 34 competitors. The leader was by far   Casliber (submissions) in Group B, who earned 1496 points. Although 913 of these points were bonus points, he submitted 15 articles in the DYK category. Second place overall was   Coemgenus (submissions) at 864 points, who although submitted just 2 FAs for 400 points, earned double that amount for those articles in bonus points. Everyone who moved forward to Round 4 earned at least 100 points.

The scores required to move onto the semifinals were impressive; the lowest scorer to move onto the finals was 407, making this year's Wikicup as competitive as it's always been. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:

  1.   Cas Liber (submissions), who is competing in his sixth consecutive Wikicup final, again finished the round in first place, with an impressive 1666 points in Pool B. Casliber writes about the natural sciences, including ornithology, botany and astronomy. A large bulk of his points this round were bonus points.
  2.   Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points), second place both in Pool B and overall, earned the bulk of his points with FPs, mostly depicting currency.
  3.   Cwmhiraeth (submissions), first in Pool A, came in third. His specialty is natural science articles; in Round 4, he mostly submitted articles about insects and botany. Five out of the six of the GAs he submitted were level-4 vital articles.
  4.   Harrias (submissions), second in Pool A, took fourth overall. He tends to focus on articles about cricket and military history, specifically the 1640s First English Civil War.
  5.   West Virginian (submissions), from Pool A, was our highest-scoring wildcard. West Virginia tends to focus on articles about the history of (what for it!) the U.S. state of West Virginia.
  6.   Rodw (submissions), from Pool A, likes to work on articles about British geography and places. Most of his points this round were earned from two impressive accomplishments: a GT about Scheduled monuments in Somerset and a FT about English Heritage properties in Somerset.
  7.   Rationalobserver (submissions), from Pool B, came in seventh overall. RO earned the majority of her points from GARs and PRs, many of which were earned in the final hours of the round.
  8.   Calvin999 (submissions), also from Pool B, who was competing with RO for the final two spots in the final hours, takes the race for most GARs and PRs—48.

The intense competition between RO and Calvin999 will continue into the finals. They're both eligible for the Newcomers Trophy, given for the first time in the Wikicup; whoever makes the most points will win it.

Good luck to the finalists; the judges are sure that the competition will be fierce!

WikiCup 2015: The results

WikiCup 2015 is now in the books! Congrats to our finalists and winners, and to everyone who took part in this year's competition.

This year's results were an exact replica of last year's competition. For the second year in a row, the 2015 WikiCup champion is   Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points). All of his points were earned for an impressive 253 featured pictures and their associated bonus points (5060 and 1695, respectively). His entries constituted scans of currency from all over the world and scans of medallions awarded to participants of the U.S. Space program.   Cwmhiraeth (submissions) came in second place; she earned by far the most bonus points (4082), for 4 featured articles, 15 good articles, and 147 DYKs, mostly about in her field of expertise, natural science.   Cas Liber (submissions), a finalist every year since 2010, came in third, with 2379 points.

Our newcomer award, presented to the best-performing new competitor in the WikiCup, goes to   Rationalobserver (submissions). Everyone should be very proud of the work they accomplished. We will announce our other award winners soon.

A full list of our award winners are:

We warmly invite all of you to sign up for next year's competition. Discussions and polls concerning potential rules changes are also open, and all are welcome to participate. The WikiCup judges will be back in touch over the coming months, and we hope to see you all in the 2016 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. WikiCup 2016 is just around the corner...

Hello everyone, and we would like to wish you all a happy holiday season. As you will probably already know, the 2016 WikiCup begins in the new year; there is still time to sign up. There are some changes we'd like to announce before the competition begins.

After two years of serving as WikiCup judge, User:Miyagawa has stepped down as judge. He deserves great thanks and recognition for his dedication and hard work, and for providing necessary transition for a new group of judges in last year's Cup. Joining Christine (User:Figureskatingfan) and Jason (User:Sturmvogel 66) is Andrew (User:Godot13), a very successful WikiCup competitor and expert in Featured Pictures; he won the two previous competitions. This is a strong judging team, and we anticipate lots of enjoyment and good work coming from our 2016 competitors.

We would also like to announce one change in how this year's WikiCup will be run. In the spirit of sportsmanship, Godot13 and Cwmhiraeth have chosen to limit their participation. See here for the announcement and a complete explanation of why. They and the judges feel that it will make for a more exciting, enjoyable, and productive competition.

The discussions/polls concerning the next competition's rules will be closed soon, and rules changes will be made clear on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring and talk pages. The judges are committed to not repeating the confusion that occurred last year and to ensuring that the new rules are both fair and in the best interests of the competition, which is, first and foremost, about improving Wikipedia.

If you have any questions or concerns, the judges can be reached on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, on their talk pages, or by email. We hope you will all join us in trying to make the 2015 WikiCup the most productive and enjoyable yet. You are receiving this message because you are listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Proposed deletion of MAM Mansoor

The BLP wikipedia article M.A.M._Mansoor was proposed to be delete as it lacked verifiable 3rd party sources. Hence I edited the article so that everything has a valid source. I thought everything is fine and deleted the proposal. But I was puzzled to find that the proposal came right back once i have done it. I am asking for your generous help to resolve this issue with me. Thank you. Ali Ahamed Thowfeek (talk) 16:16, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

WikiCup 2016: Game On!

We are about to enter the second week of the 2016 WikiCup. The most recent player to sign up brings the current total to 101 contestants. Signups close on 5 February. If you’re interested, you can join this year's WikiCup here.

We are aware that in some areas the scoring bot’s numbers are a little bit off (i.e., overly generous) and are working to have that corrected as soon as possible.--MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:03, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

File:Torenia in a flowerpot.jpg

Hello AntanO. Did you identify the plants depicted in File:Torenia in a flowerpot.jpg yourself, or did you use an identifying label provided by the garden? I'm asking because the flower shape looks slightly different to cultivated petunias that I've seen before. PaleCloudedWhite (talk) 21:14, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

I had same feeling. So, I approach a local botanist and he mentioned it is a one of species of petunia. Do you think it is something else? If so, I can work to clarify. --AntanO 04:29, 10 January 2016 (UTC)

WikiCup 2016

Hello AntanO- You submitted Bacha Khan University attack as an ITN credit, but your name is not associated with the ITN nomination nor were you given talk page credit. Can you please explain? Thanks. --Godot13 (talk) 06:14, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Please see the history of the page for my major contribution until ITN where I was a one leading editors on the page. Then, there were so many editors and my contributions on the article became less.
