ITN archives
editHi. I hope you are doing well. I am glad to tell you that Wikipedia:In the news/Posted/Archives are now fully available, with all the vandalism/disruptive edits removed. While creating the bot for the archival process, I went through a lot of the older posts, you are one of the editors whose name popped quite often in ITN in "back in the day", so I personally wanted to let you know about the archives its nice to see that you are still active! —usernamekiran (talk) 21:52, 18 July 2024 (UTC)

Show Preview and minor edits
editHello BorgQueen, you're a senior editor and an admin, hence I'll avoid the templated notices that I use for newer editors! At r/nosleep, I noticed you made 9 edits within 7 minutes. Most were minor edits but were not tagged as minor. Most edits were across sections, but some were in the same section and nearby each other. You can use the "Show preview" button and avoid multiple saves that increase the page history versions. Obviously you are aware of these, but just my observation! Jay 💬 14:47, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Jay No, I haven't realized those edits could bother anyone. Please link an appropriate guideline page. BorgQueen (talk) 14:54, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- What guideline are you asking for - what constitutes a minor edit vs a non-minor edit, or the impact on editors who watch pages? Help:Minor edit has
Because editors may choose to ignore minor edits when reviewing recent changes, the distinction between major and minor edits is significant.
My setting is to prevent pages with minor edits appearing in my watchlist, so if a page shows up in my watchlist, I assume it is a non-minor edit. - Help:Show preview has
Publishing the same article several times in quick succession makes it harder for people to check what changed, and clogs up the page history.
Jay 💬 15:09, 22 August 2024 (UTC)- Both of those pages you've provided has the notice at the very beginning saying
This is an information page. It is not one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines
. So I suppose they're not some enforced policies or guidelines I must follow. - You see, I'd say it's rather counter-productive to come after established editors over those minor issues, and I hope it's not something you do on a regular basis. Of course, I know what constitutes minor edits, and I'm aware of the preview function and I do use it. However, as someone involved in the Main Page's DYK process, I have to work on a lot of articles before they show up on Main Page, which is also time-sensitive, so I tend to fix them as quicky as I can. There are only a limited number of admins and editors who work regularly on DYK, and its excessive workload is a constant problem. It's not that I've created several pages of unnecessary edit history, have I? I personally prefer to fix one issue at a time when I work on articles, in order to prevent any confusion on my part, to avoid edit conflicts with others, and for my focus in my limited time. Thank you for your understanding. BorgQueen (talk) 15:34, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- I'm good with your explanation that you do this only in DYK articles because of the time sensitivity. Yes, they are not guidelines but practices that make our lives at Wikipedia easier. I disagree that these are minor issues, or that established editors should be immune from them. At first I thought it is a newbie (not having interacted with you before), and I could do my standard notice and move on. Then I checked your user talk archives to see if there have been similar notices. Just checked a couple of pages since your archives are not searchable. I had to know why you edited the way you did, hence the notification. Jay 💬 17:03, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Jay Very well. Having said what I've said, I'll use the minor edit more often from now on. I know you meant well for Wikipedia. BorgQueen (talk) 17:05, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Request for advice on DYK
editHello. Thank you very much for your review of the article “Umehara ga kimeta” which was recently nominated for DYK. I have a request regarding this DYK. Currently, the hook of this article has received negative feedback.
In this opinion, the comparison between “was regarded” and “is regarded” makes sense to me, As for the rest of the opinions, they seems to be purely subjective. Also, the quoted Japanese sentences seem to have been clipped out of their context. My position opinion is that the source is a very ordinary tone article from a media outlet that meets reliable sources and that both the hook and the article are in line with the policy and guidelines.
I am afraid I do not yet have a full understanding of the DYK process and do not know if I should just wait or express my views or if there is something else I should be doing. If I find that a hook or article needs improvement, I am gladly willing to improve the article to the extent possible. Nevertheless, since the other person is an IP user, it is difficult from my side to distinguish the degree of validity of the person's opinion.
If the IP's opinion is influential, I would like to ask for 3rd opinions from one of the users who has a verifiable DYK contribution record and can read Japanese, is there any way to do this? I am sorry to say that this is the situation, but I wonder if you could give me some advice. I will be faithful to the best of my ability. Thank you in advance.--狄の用務員 (talk) 14:10, 23 August 2024 (UTC)

- @BorgQueen Thank you very much for your advice.Based on your experience with DYK, I take your opinion as correct.I will try to improve the main text of the article. 狄の用務員 (talk) 06:52, 24 August 2024 (UTC)

Request for DYK help
editHello BorgQueen! I got your name from Mike Turnbull who is trying to help me with a DYK query and who suggested that I get in touch with you. I am very inexperienced at DYK. I am trying one at Template:Did you know nominations/Mary Jane Patterson People more experienced than I am say that it is in danger of being timed out. I wonder if you might have a peep at the page and, if it is in danger of being timed out, and if you think the amended hook is okay and so on, could you possibly rescue it? Sorry to ask but it seems like an interesting woman might be in danger of lapsing! Thanks for any help you can give. Balance person (talk) 12:07, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
