Hey! Damehar, Himachal Pradesh, shows up on the Weather Network here: https://www.theweathernetwork.com/en/city/in/himachal-pradesh/damehar/7-days, and is a seperate entity from Domehar. Hilly towns in Himachal aren't reported on - but this one is in the district of Mandi. As someone with familial heritage from here, I guarantee you it does exist and town signs and borders are there which i could upload on wikimedia commons. No mention of "Jackask" at the target, nor any mention anywhere on Wikipedia outside of one, on John Milhiser, where it is listed as a "television title" that he acted in. For a Youtube series that is intended to be pronounced similarly to Jackass, such a misspelling seems to be the likely ask for searchers of this term. Especially since this Youtube series is not discussed at the target article for Jacksfilms. The singular mention at John Milhiser can very well be a piped link to Jack's general article, forgoing the need to have a potentially misleading redirect as a result. What makes this one so special? Should we create all of them? This is even made worse by the fact that it's just his first name.   Just because a typo redirect exists does not mean we systematically create new ones. We don't systematically create redirects for the various forms of disambiguation found on Wikipedia, Does that mean we should delete all disambiguated redirects because we are not doing so? If you do not think that Obama is the primary topic of "Barack", but instead a disambiguation page should be a primary landing spot, you can post a WP:Requested move to replace Barack with Barack (disambiguation). • Repeat after me...Wiktionary redirects are BAD. This one is especially bad. Native speakers do not need to look up the meaning of such a common phrase. Non-native speakers shouldn't be looking up meanings in an encyclopedia; they should use a dictionary. Wikipedia is not a dictionary. It's claimed immediately above that this isn't the primary topic, but then what is? We have no encyclopedic content about the phrase itself, so it can't be that by default. We do have a mention of this as a song title, which is at least something. This link gets a hit once every three to four days, and if that's people looking for the English definition of virose then a soft redirect to wikt:virose could be appropriate, but if it's people looking for virus in Portuguese then it would better to delete as there's no particular affinity between the language and the topic. Delete. The existence of these three redirects, as explained in previous RfDs, actively obstructs the effectiveness of the MediaWiki search engine. "Langauge" is a very common typo and misspelling, which counterintuitively means that the existence of these three redirects is problematic. The best way that this can be explained is by comparing the helpfulness of the search results for French langauge and French lagnuage. The "lagnuage" one is significantly more helpful in directing the reader to French language. The existence of word misspellings in page titles 'throw' the search engine, so to speak.

The aim of {{R from misspelling}}s is often to get around the drawbacks of the MediaWiki search function, but in this situation these misspellings accomplish precisely the opposite function. It appears as if the introduction of Vector 2022 has not significantly ameliorated this problem. Alternative solutions to deletion tend to be quite drastic: making these redirects soft, or having a bot create a "langauge" redirects for all corresponding "language" titles. Making redirects like this exempt from Search is the ideal solution, but one that cannot be implemented with any magic word as of yet. J947 ‡ ^edits 00:03, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

This strikes the balance between having a single common misspelling without embarking on a misguided explosion of redirects; why we have Amercia but not Amercia the Beautiful; many other similar examples of misspelled single-word redirects that end there.   These redirects certainly won't get you where you want to go at all if you type French langauge, English langauge, Spanish langauge, Chinese langauge, Arabic langauge, Japanese langauge, German langauge, or indeed any title with "langauge" in it except these 3 out of 25,000. Admittedly the second and third redirects aren't nearly as problematic as langauge, but they are still obtrusive to those wishing to find languages mentioned in the article such as Ske langauge and langauges of India.   That, *X langauge" redlinks, is immaterial. We do not need to systematically create new typo redirects, just to keep existing typo redirects; otherwise, the entire server capacity of Wikipedia would be chewed up by bots making systematic redirects of one form or another to be completist.   Then why bring up redlinks? search French langauge brings up Homeland, because someone misspelled "langauge" in that article. Thus this typo-form is not working in the searchbox.   The ways of the search engine are sufficiently abstruse that I have little-to-no confidence in saying so but *I think* that that is because this redirect is at RfD (and so no longer a redirect). A perhaps clarifying example is languge; German languge; and German lagnuage – this better illustrates the problem. The langauge redirect is problematic for readers searching up any of the languages mentioned at language, which are plentiful in number. J947 ‡ ^edits 08:47, 13 December 2024 (UTC)

  I did for one and, on balance, voted for the solution which seemed least harmful to me. It is not harmful to have a redirect "Langauge" to Language. As many in all discussions have noted (particularly User:Tavix but even User:Uanfala, who proposed the initial RfD), it's a very common and plausible misspelling. But I agree with others that creating similar redirects for every language is unhelpful, and the search problem seems likelier to affect individual languages rather than the base article. • Verry week keap of "langauge" as at least a mildly plausible spelling error (rather than a typo). But definitely delete the other two, per the previous consensus, and as such redirects become increasingly useless the more specific you get, these being fairly obscure topics indeed. I'm a little horrified that people are seriously suggesting that a bot should create redirects for every article title with "language" in the name. There's no end to the amount of words that can be misspelled and the ways of doing so.
