Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish آیَازْ (ayaz), from Proto-Turkic *ayaŕ (clear sky; frost). Cognate with Azerbaijani ayaz, Bashkir аяҙ (ayaź), Chuvash уяр (ujar), Kazakh аяз (aäz), Kyrgyz аяз (ayaz), Turkmen aýaz, Uyghur ئاياز (ayaz) and Uzbek ayoz.
