From Spanish abelmosco (abelmosk), from New Latin abelmoschus, from Arabic أَبُو المِسْك (ʔabū l-misk, father of musk) or حَبّ المِسْك (ḥabb al-misk, grain of musk), from both حَبّ (ḥabb, grain), from ح ب ب (ḥ b b) + and from مِسْك (misk), from Middle Persian [script needed] (mwšk' /⁠mušk⁠/, musk).
