Submission Grinder is a free, web-based service for writers to track their written works--chiefly short stories and poetry--and search for candidate story markets focused primarily on speculative fiction.

History

Founded in 2013 by David Steffen and Anthony Sullivan, Submission Grinder manages databases of registered user's titles, story markets, and for tracking story market submissions. The "Grinder" has over nine thousand registered users and tracks more than thirteen thousand story markets[1].

Submission Grinder's market data is used by speculative fiction publishers and researchers to analyze the state of the speculative fiction publishing industry.[2][3][4][5].

Numerous publication markets[6][7] and writing help sites[8][9][10] recommend Submission Grinder to submitting authors. The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA) distributes the Submission Grinder's monthly newsletter containing current, upcoming, and closing market submission windows.

Nominations and awards

Submission Grinder won FIYAH Magazine's 2022 Ignyte Award in the category of Community Award for Outstanding Efforts in Service of Inclusion and Equitable Practice in Genre[11]

Operations and funding
