Sirra Wally Ndow-Njie
Sirra Wally Ndow-Njie is a Gambian politician.
Career
Appointed Minister of Petroleum by President Yahya Jammeh on 16 February 2015. Was first in the cabinet as Miniser of Energy 25 December 2009 to 10 June 2010.[1]
Appointed Officer of the National Order of the Republic of The Gambia January 2010 in commemoration of the 45th anniversary of independence and 15th anniversary of 22 July revolution.[2]
Was said to have been persecuted by new president Jammeh and denied bail. Held in Mile2 Prison, said to be suffering from poor diet and medical care.[3]
Was also Deputy Minister of Petroleum and Deputy Minister of Tourism and Culture.[4]
Was first minister of petroleum. Charged with economic crime June 2016, by having intentionally caused detriment to the economy of The Gambia between 2015 and 2016. Nine others, civil servants and employees of the national petroleum company were also arrested. Remanded i custody.[5]
Relieved of post of Deputy Minister of Tourism and Culture in June 2016 by Jammeh.[6]
Married to Basiru Njie, a civil servant at the Gambia Central Bank.[7]
Prior to energy minister was deputy-director of Gambia's National Water & Electricity Company.[8]
Was on national planning commission in April 2008.[9]
was said to have wilfully cost Gambia more than $7 million by payment to March Trading company. 3.5 million dalasis by paying for a trip to Dubai in connection with March Trading. Prosecution against her and all others accused was later dropped.[10]
All accused were dismissed on 20 June 2016 for allegedly appropriating funds via an agreement with a fake oil company in Dubai.[11]
Removed from petroleum ministry and made deputy tourism and culture minister 18 APril 2016. Was appointed minister of petroleum february 2015.[12]
