Rachel Ong Sin Yen (Chinese: 王心妍; pinyin: Wáng Xīnyán; born 1972)[1] is a Singaporean politician and businesswoman. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), she has been the Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Telok Blangah division of West Coast GRC since 2020.[1]

Education

[edit]

Ong holds a Master of Business Administration degree from INSEAD and Tsinghua University.[2][3]

Career

[edit]

Ong is the founder of ROHEI, a learning and consulting partner operating in Singapore.[2][4] She is also patron of Trybe, a registered charity aimed at helping youths.[2][4][3]

In 2021, Ong began to chair The Purple Parade, Singapore's largest movement to support inclusion and celebrate abilities of Persons with Disabilities.[5]

Political career

[edit]

Ong made her political debut in the 2020 general election when she joined a five-member People's Action Party (PAP) team contesting in West Coast GRC.[6] On 10 July 2020, the PAP team in West Coast GRC won with 51.68% of the vote against the Progress Singapore Party,[7] so Ong became a Member of Parliament representing the Telok Blangah ward of West Coast GRC.[1]

Ong serves in the Government Parliamentary Committees for Defence, Foreign Affairs and Manpower.[8] She is also a member of the Estimates Committee in Parliament,[9] an adviser to the Telok Blangah grassroots organisations, and vice chairperson of the West Coast Town Council.[10] She is also the co-Chairperson of the PAP Mental Health Group launched in Oct 2024.
