Students

[edit]

I do not think that Parkland is the most populous high school in the Lehigh Valley; I believe that Allen has more students --Joe 21:58, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct (Allen has 3,386 to Parkland's 3,100). I made revisions accordingly. PAWiki 22:22, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello to my alma mater. I am an alumni of Parkland (graduated 1982). I moved to Phoenix 25 years ago. Does anyone know how to find ERIC BOSTIC, a 1983 graduate. He was one of my best friends in high school, and I've lost him. Any information would be greatly appreciated. E-mail me at nitrowitch@cs.com. Many thanks!66.193.202.94 16:29, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Academics

[edit]

Why is there a line at the very bottom of the Academics section referring to an individual student's achievement? It seems rather self-promoting in nature. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.81.254.35 (talk) 00:54, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Parkland IS rather self-promoting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.115.243.124 (talk) 21:57, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Citations

[edit]

There are MANY statements in this article that should be supported with citations. Also, someone should edit for NPOV, [weasel words] and "peacock terms." Alphageekpa (talk) 21:43, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

legally this high school is in south whitehall township not allentown. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.193.153.184 (talk) 03:32, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Content

[edit]

A user has recently deleted a plethora of content on this page (Academics, Athletics, and Arts sections) because he/she claimed that some information on this page was not sourced properly. However, as I attended this school, I know that all of that information was true. It would be fantastic if someone could restore the the content back onto the article (find the content in past revisions) and and edit it to seem more professionally done and get rid of any names of students and teachers. School pages are often edited by students and alumni of their respective institutions, thus they are experts on these topics, so it is foolish and unprofessional to delete content just because there is not a source after word! Thank you! Adervae (talk) 20:31, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry, Adervae, but that is not how it works. Wikipedia is supposed to be verifiable. What you know cannot be verified. We actually have a policy against using personal knowledge, WP:OR. All is not lost, though. Most of what any of us know we learned somewhere. I personally use what I know to guide me to proper sources.
On another subject, I don't see any large scale removal of anything in the recent history of the article. Could you possibly be a bit more specific? Most of the time, information in high school articles is not removed for being inaccurate or even unverifiable. The usual reason large chunks of information are removed is because the students and the alumni you mentioned are inserting content that is outside the guidelines for high school articles found at WP:SCH/AG. Stuff that is of interest primarily to the students or alumni of a given school is generally not considered encyclopedic content. Examples are: staff listings, class schedules, graduation requirements, discussion of relatively minor achievements (to be included an achievement must be at the level of state or national champion), discussion of individual achievements (the article is about the school, not any individual students), mention of non notable student names, etc. The article is to be written to inform a reader in say Calcutta or Idaho about information that will inform them about the school viewed as a whole throughout its history. If a school is say a football powerhouse, that could be considered important and would be shown by providing a referenced listing of all the state football championships won. We would not say "the school is a football powerhouse". In addition, the "Notable alumni" section is frequently misused. It is for people who have enough world-wide notability to qualify for a biography on Wikipedia, not for people who are viewed as important graduates of the school.
If you want to edit your school's article, you are more than welcome to do so. Just keep in mind that the school's article does not belong to the school or its alumni and is not intended to promote or glorify the school. It is to report the facts that someone in Calcutta or Boise would want to know about the school. If I can be of assistance, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Troy Emswiler

[edit]

I have been trying to add Troy Emswiler as a noted graduate.

I have some sources to back me up.

He is Director of Communication for Pitt ESC Source: http://pittesc.weebly.com/board-members.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vinstreak (talkcontribs) 22:11, 17 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Vinstreak - You have not shown how he is notable. References from this school or from his employer do not do that. Even if he were director of communication for the university itself, it is doubtful he would be notable. Further, you've had two editors tell you they disagree with this addition. Disputed content requires a consensus which you do not have. Until or unless you have a consensus to add his name here, any further replacement of his name in the article will most likely lead to your editing privileges being suspended for edit warring, as you have been advised on your talk page. As I said, it is highly doubtful that this fella meets any notability guideline for biographies, but the only way to show for sure that he is notable is to write his bio and see. A person MUST qualify to have a biography on Wikipedia to be included in a notable alumni list. John from Idegon (talk) 22:41, 17 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Alumni tag

[edit]

There was no consensus in adding

to this section, so it is not clear why it was added. I see no real basis. If there is one, it should be explained here. If not, it should be removed, and I will do so. Keystone18 (talk) 16:50, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It's clear to me why it was added. As user:John from Idegon said in his summary This will be taken care of when each and every entry has a reliable secondary source verifying their attendance. Alumni without reliable sources showing their attendance is a valid reason for the tag. Meters (talk) 01:33, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Similarities between this and other schools

[edit]

You are going to need to provide reliable secondary sources as to why this matters. Is it controversial? Did the architect purport the district was getting an original design? If not, how is this anything more than trivia? John from Idegon (talk) 23:49, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Adervae, if you are adding this in response to the "this school makes the Kessel run..." thing, there is another approach. I'd not object to removing that piece of trivia too. If others come in favor of keeping it, I'd argue removing it to a separate section. If you can find secondary sources where the source notes the similarity between the design of the other schools and the Falcon, that would bolster any argument that the whole thing is nothing but non distinguishing trivia. John from Idegon (talk) 06:12, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Location

[edit]

Just a reminder that having an address for a particular city, in this case Allentown, doesn't not mean the subject is "in" said city. This is an issue that comes up with many high schools (and many other topics too), especially those in rural or otherwise unincorporated areas. ZIP and other postal codes quite often cover areas well outside the city they are assigned to, and this is another example. Unless Allentown has recently annexed the area, the school shows up on maps and in the Lehigh Valley GIS as being in South Whitehall Township with an Allentown mailing address. We can and should be accurate in location. Using "near" in the article text is accurate, but unless the current category for Allentown schools changes, it's inaccurate to say this school is "in" Allentown. If the category name had "in and around" or "Schools serving Allentown..." or something similar, then it would work since this school does include small parts of Allentown itself in its district. -- JonRidinger (talk) 17:40, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
