Pau Golf Club History
[edit]Hello, I'm not going to change the first few paragraphs because I think it should be done by whoever posted it. Pau was a very tiny and isolated town up until 1840. Henry IV was born at the château but didn't live there. I have difficulty believing any games with mallets were played there before the 1830s or 1840s. Perhaps you might search for an early 17th century or late 16th century source. I recommend removing the first three paragraphs and replacing the text with a simple paragraph more or less stating the land was available in the 1850s during the development of a foreign/tourist colony. In the early 1840s they wanted to build the hippodrome there, but couldn't get the village of Billère to agree. The history is explained in this 1956 article by a respected love historian Raymond Ritter. Hamilton was only here one year. Please let me know whether you'd like me to proceed and eventually rewrite this. Looking forward to comments. Davidgblackburn (talk) 14:53, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
Golf outside the UK
[edit]“It is also the third Golf Club built in the world outside of Great Britain, after those of Charleston (United States, 1786) Kolkata (India, 1829) and Mumbai (India, 1842).”
Where does this info about Charleston come from? I thought golf courses were only built in the us after the civil war. 24.6.125.249 (talk) 00:16, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
