Aggregating news sources - poor approach

[edit]

What we really need here are news sources that report the general phenomenon, not an aggregation of dozens of separate incidents, the vast majority of which seem (not surprisingly) to have been in a couple of states. India is a vast country of 1 2bn people & there are lots of things named or erected for Ambedkar, so in one sense it would not be surprising if some examples were vandalised. We need more information about why and sources that give some sort of context (eg 10k statues to him in the country, 100 vandalised in last couple of years because of X). As things stand, this is little more than just another Dalit WP:COATRACK, is very poor & should probably be redirected. - Sitush (talk) 02:44, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

To explain further, we have basically created a subject here that no source seems to replicate. Loads of sources report individual events, some of which contain passing mentions of other events, but we are not a news aggregation service & without some decent sources that discuss vandalism against Ambedkar statues as a phenomenon we are on quite dodgy ground. We should not be creating subjects that are not noted as subjects in reliable sources. - Sitush (talk) 06:28, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Merge?

[edit]

Can we just merge this article to List of things named after B. R. Ambedkar which is only 6.5k long? A "Vandalism of statues" under List of things named after B. R. Ambedkar#Memorials, Museums, parks, buildings  would be a better thing to do than keeping a stand-alone article. Aman Kumar Goel (Talk) 07:47, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I also don't find this subject to be passing WP:NOPAGE noting that statue vandalism is not even limited to Ambedkar since statues of other Indians such as Savarkar, Gandhi, Vivekananda and many others have also experienced the same. Aman Kumar Goel (Talk) 08:24, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I am thinking of AfD. This seems like Deepcruze playing victimhood again, creating an article on the thinnest of grounds. But I am on mobile & the prospect of creating an AfD nom is too much like hard work. - Sitush (talk) 10:22, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see how a list of incidents is going to be notable. The phenomenon itself has received coverage in reliable sources, but is probably far better handled at an article about caste-based persecution or violence. Vanamonde (Talk) 18:17, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The redirect page has nothing on vandalism of statues which is a widespread phenomena unlike the ones of gandhi and other leaders.

[edit]

This page has been redirected to the page on which legacy of Dr. Ambedkar and his statues are listed but the page to which it is directed itself doesn't have any information on vandalism of his statues. The person who proposed this redirect hasn't added the required infomration on the said page. Ashvin Kaitabhya (talk) 14:29, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
