Cantigas de Santa Maria

[edit]

Shouldn't we include de Cantigas de Santa Maria in the template? --Froaringus (talk) 14:44, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Even though the cantigas are written in Galician-Portuguese, they were compiled during the reign of Alfonso X, King of Castile, León and Galicia. This cancionero is therefore more properly Spanish than Portuguese. —capmo (talk) 15:07, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Afonso X have 44 compositions in the other cancioneiros, and the Cantigas are not different: they are written in Galician-Portuguese, in Galician variety; give or take, half the medieval authors of the cancioneiros are Galician, and this usually shows in their lexicon and other dialectal features. Anyway, the template is clearly about language, not about medieval frontiers, and the Cantigas de Santa Maria do belong to Galician(-Portuguese) literature and tradition, even assuming the full authorship of Castillian Afonso, author of other 44 cantigas.--Froaringus (talk) 17:34, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
