Overlap again

[edit]

Kinda overlaps with {{Welsh linguistics}}. DankJae 01:32, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wait it seems you did copy from it. DankJae 01:33, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
there is an overlap yes Titus Gold (talk) 02:13, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I was tempted to merge Titus Gold (talk) 02:13, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It does seem other templates under Category:Europe language templates have one or the other, not both. With {{Irish linguistics}} basically being Irish language. As it seems you copied somewhat, best if you redirect Welsh language to Welsh linguistics (ofc moving the formatting there), plus keeps in line with the apparent Celtic languages naming scheme for some reason where every Celtic language (ex. Cornish) has "linguistics". DankJae 02:20, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There is a linguistic pages overlap yes. I think the best option would be to either keep both templates or nominate Template:Welsh linguistics for deletion or redirect to this page. Titus Gold (talk) 14:17, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Prefer the other way round for redirecting, {{Welsh linguistics}} is the older template and most other Celtic language templates use "linguistics", therefore maintains consistency with other Celtic languages templates. Tldr, this template is a part-duplicate of that one. DankJae 15:33, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think Welsh language use is necessarily comparable with Scottish Gaelic or Irish in use. I do not agree with deleting the content of this template because I think it is useful. I'm happy to make some sort of merge Template:Welsh linguistics or removing linguistics from this template? Titus Gold (talk) 16:26, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am only talking about template name really, be free to copy the formatting here and paste to {{Welsh linguistics}}. Tldr, expand that template. DankJae 16:32, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nvm, moved all the Celtic ones to "language". Redirecting Welsh linguistics now DankJae 16:37, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Think that's the most sensible thing to do Titus Gold (talk) 16:56, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That was yet another copypaste move by TG, who should have edited the existing template rather than copy it to another name of their choosing. The correct thing to do would be to edit the existing template, not redirect it (which simply encourages this bad habit). Sionk (talk) 16:59, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I made a Welsh language template and linked all relevant pages. I later came across the linguistic pages and template and added the links to it. Not sure how else I could have added those links to this template? I've removed these links now. Titus Gold (talk) 17:13, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Spend more time looking for existing templates, looking at the relevant pages seems the easiest way to find them, or simply search for them? Better to simply ask, you seem in a rush to make them. DankJae 17:16, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've done as @Sionk suggested. I did search for relevant templates. Titus Gold (talk) 17:21, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I did initially suggest that, please keep that in mind in the future. The recent move was not wholly needed, but since requested a technical move to this title. This is getting confusing. DankJae 17:26, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Titus Gold (talk) 17:37, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well it has been now deemed controversial, so I have no idea where to go from here, this is draining. DankJae 17:39, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
