Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Hi David. I've recently noticed that images using this template going to the London Transport Museum website now all come back with a HTTP 403 error, which implies something has changed. Do you (or anyone else reading this) know how to fix that, so we can get the links working again? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:43, 10 April 2023 (UTC)

Ritchie. They have changed the url address format.
Originally, the direct link to a specific image looked something like this (using the example in the template explanation):
https://images.ltmuseum.co.uk/images/max/iz/i00008iz.jpg
Now, the equivalent looks like this:
https://www.ltmuseum.co.uk/system/files/styles/collection_item_component_600_px_wide/private/collection_item/i00008iz_0.jpg?itok=Lr6I6_P5
The file name is slightly different, but there is also an extra bit of code after the "?". This appears to be a check sum as removing it breaks the url. It looks like the template will have to be rewritten to use the new url format and all of the existing links will need to be revised to take account of the new arrangement including plugging in the new bit with the checksum for each case.
When the template was created, the format of the LTM pages for each image was fairly crude and the images were mostly thumbnails, so linking to an image directly gave a larger picture. Now, there is more background information and the image is larger, so it may warrant a change in the way the link is targetted - so that it goes to the page on which the image appears with its details.
Using the example image again, the link becomes:
https://www.ltmuseum.co.uk/collections/collections-online/photographs/item/1998-87900
Which would need the bit after "item/" to be plugged into a restructured template, but would still need every existing link to be remade. Not an impossible task as there appear to be 267 transclusions of the template, though some articles may have more than one.DavidCane (talk) 21:36, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
