Personal message

[edit]

I contact you privately because I believe it is necessary that we reduce tensions. The latest contributions are simply why it seems that what happens normally in a country has to be relevant throughout the world. And it is not like that. In some eliminations I have not been right, but in others I still think so. So I think a debate about some of them or clearer explanations is better from now on. Not something hostile. As well as a more globalist and plural vision of the portal. I apologize for my alterations. Perhaps they have been able to understand hostile or bad, I have not wanted it either. It's not to justify myself, but I have honestly been through a very stressful weeks so it is not surprising, as I gave the typical temperament of the Mediterranean people. LOL I've been contributing to wikipedia for almost 5 years, and to Current Events for about 2, approximately, in the honest way required. I have never had problems with anyone or want them now. Nor do I want the work I have done on this page to be questioned.

Greetings and may we continue to make great Wikipedia. (Alsoriano97) (talk), 20 February 2020, 22:55 (UTC)

Tenses

[edit]

In the current events portal, the second verb should usually be in past perfect tenses, especially when the first one is "[Subject] announces / says / states / reports  ..."

For example:

  • "Nigerian intelligence officials say that Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has either been killed or critically injured ..."
  • Not "Nigerian intelligence officials say that Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau is either killed or critically injured ..."
  • However, "Nigerian intelligence officials say that Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau is either dead or critically injured ...", also works in this example.

All the best, CentreLeftRight 02:06, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Discussing cookies

[edit]

Hello MountPatagonia,

I appreciate your work on the List of common misconceptions page. Your most recent entry on Oreos and Hydrox is a nice addition.

Here's something to "chew on": while it's only peripherally mentioned in the topic articles, the big historical difference between the two cookies is that Oreos were made with lard up until the 90s while Hydrox were not. Observant Jews, Muslims, and vegetarians would buy Hydrox instead of Oreos to avoid the lard. I don't have a cite for this, but you seem to be eager to help improve articles here so you might want to chase this one down and add it to the topic articles. I'm not sure there's a common misconception here, unless it's that perhaps some people think Oreos are still made with lard.

Cheers. Mr. Swordfish (talk) 15:58, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That's an interesting factoid. I kind of gleamed that when doing research on this misconception, when for some reason I kept getting sources from Jewish publications. I will try to look into this when I have the time. Thanks for the compliment! It's always fun finding new information, especially when it challenges our preconcieved notions on the world. I also moved this to my user talk page, if you don't mind. Mount Patagonia (talk) 22:54, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
