Ways to improve Ofo (bike sharing)

[edit]

Hi, I'm Nick Moyes. TechnoTalk, thanks for creating Ofo (bike sharing)!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. You will need to re-write the overview section which I have deleted as it appears to have been directly lifted from http://www.jimilab.com/about-jimi/jimilab-cooperates-with-ofo.html (I recognise that you didn't insert it!)

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

[edit]

Hello, TechnoTalk. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Royal Blood (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Speedy deletion nomination of East Ventures

[edit]

Hello TechnoTalk,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged East Ventures for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Black Book (company) moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Black Book (company), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Concern regarding Draft:Black Book (company)

Information icon Hello, TechnoTalk. This is a bot-delivered message letting you know that Draft:Black Book (company), a page you created, has not been edited in at least 5 months. Draft space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for article space.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion under CSD G13. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it. You may request userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available here.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia. FireflyBot (talk) 07:02, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Payoff, Inc. has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Promotional article. No evidence of notability. Third-party sourcing is passing mentions. WP:BEFORE shows no evidence of WP:CORPDEPTH.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Question

[edit]

Thanks so much for your edits TechnoTalk! How can I turn it into an article from a stub? Best, Liza Zimmerman Liza Zimmerman (talk) 23:05, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Courtesy link: Draft:TOR Wines @Liza Zimmerman: Your first goal is to get the draft approved as an article. It may stay a stub for now but that's fine. You'll want to include media coverage of the winery and its wines, to demonstrate notability. See WP:GNG and WP:RS. Avoid commercial sites that are trying to sell something. This one looks good but it's paywalled so I can't read the whole thing. [[1]] This also looks good. [[2]] You should fill out the references so reviewers can see the publication names. See Template:Cite_news. You want the cites to look like this: <ref>{{cite news |last= |first= |date= |title= |url= |work= |access-date=}}</ref> Example: <ref>{{cite news |last=Smith |first=John |date=January 10, 2021 |title=Winning Wines With John Smith |url=www.winespectator.com/winningwines |work=Wine Spectator |access-date=January 28, 2022}}</ref> Also, see WP:COIPAYDISCLOSE to make the necessary disclosures. And this helps too [[3]]. TechnoTalk (talk) 18:25, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Orgain

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Orgain, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Illegal formating on Otrium AFD

[edit]

Hi TechnoTalk. Do not put insert comments in the middle of a discussion, as you did at the Otrium Afd. Please read WP:THREAD and WP:TALK. That is completly illegal and abusive and its not done. I can't understand why you did that. I've removed it to the end of the comment, as per the original intent. If you remove it, I'm going to start issuing warning against you. scope_creepTalk 08:37, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TechnoTalk. Sorry, that sounded a bit harsh. I never meant it to be. scope_creepTalk 15:21, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon

Hello TechnoTalk. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Otrium, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:TechnoTalk. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=TechnoTalk|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Largly due to the creation of a excessive number of spammy, low quality promo articles that are with junk references. They are all small private businesses. Many of them have deleted, some have csd'd, some have been drafted. Seems to be indication of a undeclared paid editor. scope_creepTalk 15:11, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Scope creep: I'm not a paid editor. I already told you numerous times why I'm creating articles. In my efforts as an AfC help desk volunteer, I'm trying to get access to the helper script so I can give feedback to editors on the declined article pages, instead of having to do it at the help desk page. You can also go to any RfA and see people get dinged for low article creation activity. The community can't require that articles be created in order to access editing tools and get greater status, and then blast people for creating articles. You can't have it both ways. TechnoTalk (talk) 19:10, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yip, you stated it. A couple of folk thought you were undeclared paid editor (UPE). Both of them came across your articles independently and came to the same conclusion, that you were getting paid and not declaring it. So I posted this notice and opened the coin notice. A lot of folk are looking at you, which is not the most salubrious experience, nor getting your articles deleted. I know how it feels. Its crap. Anyway, if you plan to stay the quality of the articles you write need to be better, with means better sourcing. No more churnalism, PR, routine notices, startup news that is promo, press-releases, and so on. Two people had said your not a paid editor, so its in the balance. If you create another article similar to the quality you have done before, you likely/possibly get indef'd blocked as a UPE. I'm not involved in that. I will be sending a few more of your articles to Afd in the meantime. I don't want to make any more comments on this. scope_creepTalk 19:40, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yes we can have it both ways. Yes, RfA does typically require content creation -- of good articles with competent sourcing. TT, I will tell you right now that the articles you are creating would absolutely sink an RfA. Absolutely. Also admin tools aren't in any way meant to imply 'greater status' or some goal to achieve. I think 99% of well-intentioned experienced editors would agree that it's unfortunate that some folks think of them that way, actually. valereee (talk) 20:10, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also honestly, you shouldn't be giving people advice at AfC if you don't understand sourcing. It's the absolute #1 thing you need to learn before you create articles yourself, much less advise others, and you do not understand sourcing yet. valereee (talk) 20:56, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Valereee:, I know you didn't intend your statement to come across as insulting my volunteer contributions, but please take a look at my contributions to the AfC help desk and point out any that suggest I'm not competent to be giving advice. I'm frequently thanked by confused newcomers for my guidance. I feel I do understand sourcing, but I will take your criticism to heart to try to rethink the sources I use for articles. I want them to be bulletproof by consensus. My primary benchmark is the reliable sources noticeboard. If it's allowed there, I should be able to use it. I saw your source review at FabFitFun, an article that was recently nominated for deletion but voted a keep. Your review discounts any media coverage that appears to have been triggered by press releases. Very little business content on Wikipedia would survive that cruel pen. In practice it's more nuanced than that, especially when you have independent reporting and interviews to bolster the reporting based on a release. TechnoTalk (talk) 23:28, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
TT, no, press releases really cannot be used to support notability. Media that republishes them or rewrites them cannot be used to support notability. Press release can only be used with extreme caution even provide a citation for content after notability has been proven.
I think by discounts any media coverage that appears to have been triggered by press releases you mean that a press release might make an editor decide a story is worth covering, and assign a reporter, who investigates the story and writes an article from scratch rather than writing it from the press release and that the resulting story can be used to support notability, and this is true. But that's emphatically not what any of the PR stories you've been citing to have been. There is a huge difference between those two situations, and you do not understand that difference yet, and if you are giving advice at AfC help based on that misunderstanding, you are quite likely giving bad advice, whether another newbie thanks you for it or not.
If you haven't already, I'd suggest you enable Preferences>Gadgets>Nav Popups. It will allow you to hover over a username and see how much experience an editor has. When you find that you are arguing with multiple editors who are much, much, much more experienced than you, it's time to stop arguing and start listening. valereee (talk) 14:02, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just repinging to make sure you saw this about the nav popups, it's really worth enabling for multiple reasons. You can always toggle it off if you don't like it, but I seriously use it constantly. valereee (talk) 17:36, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Am I blocked because Timtempleton recreated the Contentsquare article I originally wrote? I had nothing to do with that, and only saw it when he pinged me. Can't you check IP addresses or something else?

Decline reason:

Highly likely sockpuppetry based on technical evidence, separate from whatever Blablubbs used for the block. Yamla (talk) 22:11, 2 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
