Ambitious portal, but built on a very high-maintenance model and abandoned in 2007, with a few updates until 2011.
Created[1] in September 2006 by Shyam (talk · contribs), the list of subpages at Special:PrefixIndex/Portal:Government of India shows an an enormous list.
The plan seems to have been to build and maintain a list of anniversaries for every day of every month. However, daily pages were created only for October and November, and the sample I have checked have not been updated since 2007. The monthly pages are little better:
- Portal:Government of India/Selected anniversaries/January, a sea of redlinks basically unchnaged since 2006[2]
- Portal:Government of India/Selected anniversaries/March, basically unchanged[3] since 2006 as a sea of redlinks
- Portal:Government of India/Selected anniversaries/November only tweaked since 2006[4]
There is also a Portal:Government of India/Selected lists, but again it basically unchanged since 2006[5].
And also Portal:Government of India/News, last updated in 2011[6], so its old news ... and as far as I can see is not about the government of India.
WP:POG#How_often_to_update? says that unless automated, the content selection should be updated monthly, or preferably weekly. Even on a monthly cycle, this pseudo-portal has missed over well over 100 consecutive updates.
In theory, this a broad topic. But in practice, it doesn't meet the WP:POG requirement that portals should be about "broad subject areas, which are likely to attract large numbers of interested readers and portal maintainers". This has not attracted maintainers.
It is time to stop wasting the time of 13 readers per day by luring them to this abandoned draft, and time to abandon the magical thinking that this abandoned relic will some day magically attract magical editors who will want to resurrect it. If any editor does want to build a real portal, they will be far better off without this relic and its ancient content-forked subpages; instead they should build a modern portal without content-forked sub-pages, as has recently been done with Portal:Geophysics.
So I propose that this portal and its sub-pages be deleted per WP:TNT, without prejudice to recreating a curated portal in accordance with whatever criteria the community may have agreed at that time. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 18:09, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
- Delete:
- As BHG has said.
- Portal:India is in better shape (but I reserve the right to !vote on it if it is nominated).
- Clear lack of maintenance. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:29, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
- Delete: no maintenance, thus failing WP:PORTAL. SITH (talk) 12:19, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
- Delete - Former portal, 104 subpages, created 2006-09-19 19:57:37 by User:Shyam. Then abandoned, to the point of displaying "Tuesday, May 10, 2011" as if it was "May 10". Has to be restarted from scratch if ever restarted. Portal:Government of India. Pldx1 (talk) 18:03, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
