Suspected sockpuppets

POV-pushing Muslim article vandals. I'm not sure Trust on ALLAH is necessarily the original master, but there's something fishy going on. Basically, Trust on ALLAH's two sole actions were these:[1][2] which saw them indeffed under WP:NOTHERE as being a pure POV-pushing vandal, sending very marginal messages to two editors they don't agree with. Child Star Grown Up has also produced some rather odd edits, based highly on his beliefs: [3][4][5][6]. They were warned about these marginal edits here[7] and here[8] (the former for a copyvio, the latter for violating MOS:ISLAM). Since then, they've given a barnstar to User:Msoamu with a rather odd reason[9] (this is what really makes me suspect socking, at least of someone), and then they've added a bunch of sourced, but badly formatted, information to the Barelvi article:[10][11]. I remember there were some IP editors doing the same actions as Trust on ALLAH, and I will add them shortly. Lukeno94 (talk) 18:06, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Right, OK, now I'm analysing the IPs, whom were editing before Trust on ALLAH:
  • 182.188.190.59: Multiple edits, one of which shows the same anti-Salafi/Wahabi attitude as Trust on ALLAH.[12]
  • 182.188.138.215: Multiple edits, one of which shows the same anti-Salafi/Wahabi attitude as Trust on ALLAH.[13]
  • 182.188.189.185: 1 edit, same anti-Salafi/Wahabi attitude as Trust on ALLAH.[14]
  • 182.188.149.135: 1 edit, same anti-Salafi/Wahabi attitude as Trust on ALLAH.[15]
  • 182.188.141.208: 1 edit, same anti-Salafi/Wahabi attitude as Trust on ALLAH.[16]
  • The IPs are linked, there is absolutely no doubt (same basic range, all made exactly the same edit, plus the ones whom made multiple edits also have similar edits). I'm pretty sure that, faced with all these reversions, the account Trust on ALLAH was formed, with the sole purpose of complaining at User:MezzoMezzo and User:Ohnoitsjamie, both of whom were resisting the vandalism edit. Child Star Grown Up has only popped up since Trust on ALLAH was indeffed. There may well be more IPs at articles outside of the main Sunni Islam article. Lukeno94 (talk) 18:47, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • With regards to MezzoMezzo's comment, I'm certain that Zakwp is not linked to these accounts; their English is far in advance of these accounts. As to Shabiha, or Msoamu - it's possible, but I'm not 100% convinced, and by that, I won't add them to the checklist. Of course, CU could well turn up those accounts as being linked, but I don't really have any cast-iron evidence linking those accounts to these. I'd further doubt it based on Msoamu's response to Child Star: they were very sceptical about where the barnstar came from, and indeed queried Child Star's knowledge of policies by suggesting they learn some.[17] Lukeno94 (talk) 18:26, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I just now found out about this; it seems Lukeno filed this, then I mentioned the incidents to him independently, and he told me he already started addressing this. So, um...yeah, everything Lukeno said basically. The vandalism was not only to Islam related articles, but was specifically in regard to a south Asian Muslim movement called Barelvi and their opponents, another south Asian Muslim movement called Deobandi.
Some of the edits were made for the purposes of denying that Deobandis are from orthodox Sunni Islam, which is a covert attempt to brand them as heretics:
There are some more edits but the illustration here is fine. Now, the user Trust on ALLAH gave a barnstar to Msoamu, a user with whom I fell into conflict on Talk:Barelvi. He was blocked for edit warring and when the block finished, he, along with User:Shabiha who is also a college student in India and a proponent of the Barelvi movement, worked on an ANI thread against me which boomeranged back on the both of them. The thread is here. Msoamu was described by multiple editors as trying to push pro-Barelvi and anti-Deobandi, anti-Salafi and anti-Ahl al-Hadith POV. Given that these IPs and Trust on Allah are Barelvis, they assuredly gave Msoamu the barnstar for his efforts against me personally, but how did these users find out about the ANI thread? New users, especially IP addresses with really bad English, would normally have trouble even locating the noticeboard much less sorting through the archives.
Child star grown up is a bit weirder. His edits to the Barelvi page were using primary sources for what the movement believes, so he is obviously quite familiar with the movement. I also noticed him taunting another Barelvi editor for not being Barelvi enough, I guess (the editor being taunted there is a good, moderate editor, though still very new). User:Zakwp was a weird one as well; he created an account which was active for only one hour, and then joined in on the ANI thread against me. User:Qwyrxian, an admin who was involved in the ANI boomerang, seemed pretty sure that Zakwp was a sock of somebody involved but I don't know if that is still being pursued or what. I think it warrants mention here, along with the others.
It seems like a lot of petty stuff. Msoamu and Shabiha both contributed a lot to the article for Muslim Students' Organization of India, or "MSO." Msoamu's screen name seems awfully similar, and I know he fought hard to prevent images he uploaded of the organization's activities from being deleted; Shabiha is a Muslim college student in India. I don't want to make wild accusations, but given the intense cooperation between those two, and given the recent spurt of pro-Barelvi vandalism, I wouldn't be surprised if we have an issue of some young, zealous college students in India steaming over the failed attempt to push their POV at ANI, and things basically boiling into a decision to do a meatpuppet rush on related articles. It obviously is just a hunch right now but I think it merits being pursued, given everything that has transpired so far in 2013. MezzoMezzo (talk) 09:32, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
*Short version because I know I write too much: I think we ought to check out User:Zakwp, User:Shabiha and User:Msoamu as well, due to possible meatpuppeting by members of Muslim Students' Organization of India. MezzoMezzo (talk) 09:39, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Just disregard the comments which I stroke through. As was pointed out to me, it does seem like a stretch. I might be paranoid from my recent involvement in other conflicts. The non-stricken out comments should hopefully provide some insight, though. MezzoMezzo (talk) 21:50, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Posted on my talk page regarding Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/MezzoMezzo I'd look into it but I'm swamped. NativeForeigner Talk 19:21, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[18][19]. Same style of language as blocked sock User:Child Star Grown Up, same editing areas, same abuse of myself and User:MezzoMezzo. For the style of language, usage of unusual phrases and words, such as "mr admin", "engaged in a edit war for years", "unjustice", etc, plus lack of capitalization, is very much reminiscent of the CSGU sock, and the others. The quacking is strong in this one. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 20:15, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
