About me

[edit | edit source]

Hello, my name is Eliza (she/her).

I am a young woman in her 20s residing on Ngunnawal Land in Canberra, Australia.

I currently am a third-year undergraduate student pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Canberra. I am particularly passionate about Forensic and Legal Psychology but hold other interests in neuropsychology, counselling and statistics. In addition to my current study, I have also completed my Certificate III in Community Services at the Canberra Institute of Technology. This experience evoked an interest in providing support to those experiencing addiction and mental health-related issues and inspired my current study.

Moving forward, I hope to continue my academic journey at the University completing my Honours and Masters degrees post-graduation. I hope to move into a field where I can employ my passion for academia, people skills, and love for learning, to benefit and provide compassionate care to those in need. For me, this would likely involve moving into a workplace position involving the Australian justice system.

However, before delving further into academia, I plan to travel overseas. I hope this experience will broaden my horizons by giving me a deeper understanding of perspectives beyond the Canberran context. Pursuing this pathway will also allow me to do what I love most: getting to know new people!

Hobbies

[edit | edit source]

My current hobbies include the following;

  • Hosting dinner parties and potlucks for large groups of friends as I love to cook.
  • Reading both fiction and non-fiction novels. I am currently a big fan of murder mysteries/thrillers.
  • Painting acrylic or gouache portraits.

Hobbies I am hoping to pursue include the following;

  • Figure 1. Hiking in Alta via meranese (in Italy)
    Hiking, hopefully in the European Alps! (see figure 1)
  • Piano.
  • Volunteering with youth at risk.

Book chapter I'm working on

[edit | edit source]

I am currently completing my book chapter for the unit Motivation and Emotion and my topic is Humility. More specifically, this chapter delves into 'What is humility, What causes it and is it desirable?'.

Please see previous chapters on Humility in 2023 and 2022.

Why did I chose this topic?

[edit | edit source]

This topic in particular really stuck out to me as it embodied a trait that is generally seen in solely a positive light. Being considered a 'humble' person is almost always utilised as a compliment, but questions like "is it desirable?" allow me to utilise my critical thinking skills to explore what the dark sides of such a desirable trait may be. Additionally, the simple heading of "humility" leaves the topic very open ended with lots of room to explore questions and different perspectives to the topic. I am very excited to get started on learning more about what defines humility, how it is caused and whether or not it may be a desirable trait.

Social contributions for topic development

[edit | edit source]
  1. Edit heading format to sentence casing as per assessment requirements.
  2. Reply to the discussion forum - answering "how do you motivate yourself?"
  3. Feedback on previous humility chapter topic in discussion section.

Social contributions for book chapter

[edit | edit source]
  1. Reply to discussion forum answering "How do you emotionally balance yourself during the end of the semester?" at 1:02 Monday October 7.
  2. Contribution to talk page on the chapter 'Oxytocin and motivation'. Recommended changing external links to sentence casing to better adhere to marking criteria.
  3. Improvement to previous book chapter 'Humility' 2023. Provided introductory sentence to 'Historical aspect of humility' section and fixed that title. Inserted figure titles and numbers, and referred to figures in the main body of the text.
  4. Fixed sentence casing on previous book chapter 'Intertemporal choice' 2023.
  5. Contribution to talk page on book chapter 'Political motivation'. Complimenting their inclusion of a 'reflection' feature box as this prompts readers to engage in critical thinking.
