[edit]Inherited from Old Spanish, from Vulgar Latin *discalceus, itself either from a shortening of discalceātus, from Late Latin discalceō, or from Latin dis- + calceus. Cognate with Galician descalzo, Portuguese descalço, Catalan descalç, Occitan descauç, French déchaux, Italian scalzo and Romanian desculț.
