[edit]Borrowed from Caló parné (“money”), plural of parnó (“white”), from Romani parno, from Sanskrit पाण्डुवर्ण (pānduvarna) or पाण्डुर (pāṇḍura). The term originally referred to "white" silver coins in contrast to "black" copper coins or calé.
