qualified majority (plural qualified majorities)

  1. (chiefly UK) A majority in a vote that reaches a preset threshold value significantly larger than 50%, such as 23, often required instead of a simple majority for reaching a decision; particularly on important matters, such as modifying the bylaws of an association.
    Synonym: (chiefly US) supermajority
    Antonym: qualified minority
    three-fifths qualified majority
    two-thirds qualified majority
