[edit]Inherited from Middle Welsh tywyssawc, from Old Welsh *touyssauc (attested in plural touyssocion), from Proto-Brythonic *towɨssọg, from Proto-Celtic *towissākos (“leader”), synchronically tywys (“to lead”) + -og (“one who does something”). Cognate with Irish taoiseach.
