remove 8.x compatibility. use strings for types to avoid circular import #163

this compatibility was removed from the core here: adafruit/circuitpython#10193
In addition to removing the old API compatibility I changed some of the type annotations to use strings instead of imported classes in order to avoid the circular import issue, so this also resolves: #161
