Locus uliginosus[1] sive collective uliginosa (sc. loca)[2] appellatur regio ubi invenitur fines inter terrestrem et aquaticam zonas, quarum valde dissimilis est, quamquam ex ambabus pendet. Hygrobiotopos magnam biodiversitatem saepe avinum habet, locus condendae aquae excedentis: per inundationes sic absorbetur aqua excedens et per ariditatem ita permittitur aqua effluere ut naturaliter compensetur. Hygrobiotopos palustria haud obligatorie esse debet, quia palustria terrenum extreme paludosum est, dum hygrobiotopos siccum et umidum terrena alternare potest.
